Since June is gay pride month and all I thought I would show a little love to our fave gays in the Marvel Universe. So who is and isn't? Who is in the closet and needs to step out? Any favorite or memorable scenes? Who should be together and why or why not? This is a fun thread so no haters please. Thanks!
Also check out my gay characters in the DC universe thread to discuss them.

I could swear and maybe I'm nuts but I thought at one time Rahne/Wolfsbane was questioning her sexuality. Does anyone else recall this? It's been years ago though.

Well, Karolina Dean in Runaways is gay, and she is dating a Skrull named Xavin who changes into a girl a lot, so.... .... it's weird. Wiccan and Hulkling are an item, and Hulkling's sister is staring in the new Annihilation: Conquest event and she's gay.

Hmm wonder if Xavin will be part of the whole Skrull's are invading us like cockroaches storyline?

I let my sister read Annihilation: Conquest Prologue yesterday and the only comment she made was, "Why are Phyla and Moondragon so gay?"
I thought it was funny.
Anyway I'd say Phyla (Quasar) is my favorite gay hero.

I just realized that two of Captain Marvel's kids are gay. Thats a coincidence considering the fact that they are two of the only homosexuals in Marvel. What if Captain Marvel was anti-gay? Those would be awkward family reunions.

I always thought Cap Marvel should have been gay anyway. He was such the pretty boy. At least his recessive super homo genes got passed to his kids.

Actually there was also some business with Genis having a relationship with some alien of dual sexuality...

The real reason he's a villain, his unrequited love for Reed. If Richards would just know the love that dare not speak its name, the world would be a happier place.

Anybody remember when Electro confessed he picked up some new sexual habits in Marvel Knights Spider-Man? Don't know if that could be a confession of homosexuality, but it does ring of alternative pleasure stimulation. Just thinking of Electro turbo-charging a vibrator with his powers makes me chuckle.

Somewhat unrelated, but I dig his little lightening bolt earring.

I don't really care for the whole gay thing, not because I am homophobic but because I think the writers are just using it as a gimmick or something to try and wow the reader.
It was surprising in the past but now a days I don't think it is anymore. Gay and Lesbian are more accepted now a days so the shock is over.

The whole "gay thing" is a part of our universe, so it's nice to see it refelected in the MU -- a universe and franchise that now prides itself as being located within our own universe.

What writers are using it as a gimmick? I ask because this sounds more like a lame excuse than an actual reason for not wanting gay characters to appear.
It was surprising in the past but now a days I don't think it is anymore. Gay and Lesbian are more accepted now a days so the shock is over.
The shock is over and gays are more accepted, which means there's no reason for writers not to introduce (or out) more gay characters.
Homosexuality can be a gimmick (Batwoman) or it can be just another part of a character (Hulkling).
Batwoman's sexuality hasn't really been used as a gimmick. Sure, the press it got made it seem like a gimmick, but in 52, it didn't come across as a gimmick at all. I thought she was very well-written, and it's not like they tried to take advantage of that press by throwing her into an ongoing of her own.

Anyway I'd say Phyla (Quasar) is my favorite gay hero.
The funny thing is that I was reading an issue of Quasar from 1991 (Quasar #26) in which Moondragon declares her undying love for the male Wendell Vaughn Quasar.
With that in mind, I think it is clear that Moondragon isn't a lesbian. She's a Quasarsexual, hopelessly attracted to any Quasar regardless of that Quasar's genitalia.

Is Xavin (skrull character in Runaways) gay? I mean, when hes/shes in human form, hes/shes a girl a lot of the time, but then again hes/shes also a guy a lot too. In Skrull form hes/shes a guy, no question. And when we first saw him/her, he/she was a guy, making it appear as if being male was his/hers natural form.

Speaking of Runaways, what about Nico (Sister Grimm)? There is definitely some sexual tension between her and Karolina, seeping from both of them. I think, at one point, Nico was kind of jealous of Karolina's relationship with Xavin. I'd mark Nico down as bi-curious.

I would LOVE to see Iceman come out as bisexual. I just think it would be phenomenal; he's such a well-known, well-loved character it'd almost be like an adored child coming out to his parents--and we'll see which fans will still be fans after the fact.
Its not like it would be totally out of left field and I think a great story could come out of it. I think Milligan could've handled a quirky, fun coming-out story for Iceman during his X-Men run.

Well, Northstar started flirting with him and then fans started to say they wanted him to come out as gay or bi. Having read most of Bobby's appearances, I don't see it. Since it doesn't seem to exist off-line, I don't think it matters much, and to be honest, it wouldn't bother me, but I have yet to see where people get it from.

Im not racist and I dont hate gay folks but I just dont see why it should even be a issue or even brought up at all.
1) Comics arent real, do we really have to inject our real life issues and personal dealings into them? Do I care if a character is straight or gay? No because it doesnt matter if they are or not. I dont read comics for them to be lifelike or politically correct. Its a comic for gods sake!
2) Do gays deserve special treatment? No. Gays, blacks, women or whatever all want equal treatment. But also want holidays and special recognition for being what they are? Where is my special day for being "caucasian, american born, irish heritage, heterosexual, male" day? Why dooesnt my demographic get special recognition in comic books? If they want equal treatment they dont deserve what they ask for, they should be equal and not special.
I dont care if they have gay characters, but bringing special attention to it and making a big deal of it is baffling. The only people who I dont like that are gay without personally getting to know them are the ones who have to bring attention to themsevles and make sure you know they are gay and do stupid stuff like create this thread. Or worse yet, the ones who arent gay but yet stand up for them as if they were.
Its fiction people and I like it that way. I dont need the avengers to becomes the real world or another reality show.
I dont recall people making a big deal about straight characters. No one mentions how well the relationship between vision and scarlet witch was handled or whatnot.

As for who's soon to be coming out, I think Julie Power is a contender. I think some people alluded to some flirtation b/w her and Karolina back in an issue of the Runaways. Here's a little sample of what's probably going to come down in Thursday's issue of Loners#4:

So how many threads did you post this in? Well, you got a lovely reply in one of them, and you didn't even respond to it. Of course, something tells me you're more interested in being an ignorant troll than an open-mined human being. I'll just repost that response in case I'm wrong, though.
Why is it I always feel a sense of deep foreboding whenever someone includes the preamble 'I'm not sexist/racist /homophobic BUT...' before launching into their post? It never ends well.
Gargus, by your own admission you’re a white, heterosexual male, of COURSE you don’t need a special day or special treatment because much of American history has, and continues to be, about YOU. You have traditionally been considered the ‘norm’ by which all else is measured, it’s everyone else that, to varying degrees, is the ‘other.’ Blacks, homosexuals and other minorities face certain challenges you do not and are still struggling for equal and fair treatment in the media as well as day to day life. Someone’s sexuality should not matter, you’re right, but it DOES because some people continue to make it an issue and feel that homosexuals are somehow ‘lesser’ and until that view goes away a character’s sexuality is going to continue to be a big deal because it’s controversial by its very nature.
Many comic writers do have a social conscience and feel that homosexuals should be represented positively in their field, and I can’t imagine why anyone would fault them for that. It’s certainly preferable to them sticking their fingers in their ears and pretending certain minorities don’t exist.
I don’t think a character’s sexuality should be their defining characteristic, but one facet of who they are.

As for who's soon to be coming out, I think Julie Power is a contender. I think some people alluded to some flirtation b/w her and Karolina back in an issue of the Runaways. Here's a little sample of what's probably going to come down in Thursday's issue of Loners#4:

I'm kind of hoping she's Bi. That would make Julie pretty much perfect. ;)
But didn't she also flirt with Ricochet there as well?

In the preview, I got the vibe that Johnny was more interested in Julie then she was w/ him. I'll just have to wait for Thursday.

I dont recall people making a big deal about straight characters. No one mentions how well the relationship between vision and scarlet witch was handled or whatnot.
You mean between the robot and the mutant? You're kidding me, right? Out of all the marriages you could have picked, you picked Wanda and her walking vibrator, who dumped her, and then she later killed him?
In any case, you do get a day. St. Paddy's Day.

Where is my special day for being "caucasian, american born, irish heritage, heterosexual, male" day?
We get the other 364 days. I think we can spare one.

Gargus,
Since when did gay people ask for a "special day"? Is it our gay birthday, lol? June is considered gay pride month, because back in the 90's President Clinton signed it so. It is a month for us to celebrate our history (yes, we do have history, do some research), our culture, our lives for the good and the bad and our loves. A HUGE majority of gay men and women have to hide who they are and who they love every minute of everyday for most of their life. Do you have any idea the psychological toll that takes on a person, their relationship and their children if involved? Arrogant, straight, moronic, white straight men such as yourself have NEVER had to do any such a single day of your life. You are represented EVERYWHERE. You ARE Captain America, Spider-Man, Superman, Batman and 99.9% of every other superhero ever created. I am sorry you cant deal with the fact the world s changing and it is reflected in comic books. NEWSFLASH-Popular culture/events have ALWAYS been mirrored in comics. Captain America fought Axis forces in his books during WW2. Frank Castle fought in Vietnam. War, drugs, death, romance, winning and losing have always been represented in comics and always will be. If you dont like this fact, go read Archie or something such as that and continue to live in a bubble. I am sorry that your hyper-masculine sensitive ego feels threatened by gay people. Perhaps thats something you should dig deep inside yourself and find out just what it is you seem to be so scared of. Gay people have NEVER asked for special treatment only equal treatment. FYI we will never stop asking until it is achieved. Get behind the changing tide of history, or get left behind that is your choice. Stop posting your CRAP in my thread and go start your own however I doubt you have the intelligence to do so. This thread is purely for speculation and nonsense fantastical fun, nothing more thats why I started it. I will ask again for anyone reading to please ignore ignorant rants such as his from this point forward and just keep talking about Iceman sneaking into Northstar's room :)

Oh yes, Electro is, at the very LEAST, bicurious. I still wish we could have heard who he 'fancied a crack at,' even if the Spider-Man thing was pretty amusing (and may have been who he going to say anyway).
Somewhat unrelated, but I dig his little lightening bolt earring.
Ha, yes, I remember that scene. Marvel Knights Spider-Man, I think.
But yeah, other than "Riiiichaaaards!" who would want to get their village tramped through by Fin Fang Foom's Godzilla?

Living Lightning is also gay. He should totally hook up with Electro. Talk about sparks!
and Marlo is at least open to the possibility of gals being on the menu.

You, as a caucasian, american-born, Irish heritage, heterosexual male did not have to go through hardships for being who you are. That is why you don't have a special day.
And your demographic does get special recognition. The majority of comic book characters are white, straight, etc. I don't see how creating a thread to discuss the gay characters of Marvel comics is special treatment at all. It's the most absurd thing I've ever heard anyone say. Until...
The only people who I dont like that are gay without personally getting to know them are the ones who have to bring attention to themsevles and make sure you know they are gay and do stupid stuff like create this thread. Or worse yet, the ones who arent gay but yet stand up for them as if they were.
Are you kidding me? You're saying you HATE straight people who stand up for gays? That is so utterly ridiculous, I'm at a loss of words.

I hate it when gay people are always raping Gargus to prove they're gay. It's like "okay, I get it, you're gay, quit raping Gargus."

I always thought Cap Marvel should have been gay anyway. He was such the pretty boy. At least his recessive super homo genes got passed to his kids.
"Recessive super homo genes?" ha. ok. :D
This has probably been brought up a million times, but it seems most X-females are at least bi-sexual. Kitty was kinda-sorta starting a thing with her college roomate, but it got dropped when Colossus(who is probably a Skrull) was "ressurected." Storm and Yukio seemed to hit it off when Ororo went to Japan, and her greatest wish was to run off wit h Yukio.
Blindspot from the shortlived Rogue series is definitely gay...she was seen i nthe last pages of the series rolling around naked on a bed with one of Rogue's spare uniforms(ok, maybe she was only naked in my mind).
In Norse myth, Loki turned into a female horse, had sex with a male horse(!) and gave birth to Odin's nine legged horse. Does that count?:evilsmile
Black Cat is bi-sexual.
Karma is gay
Mirage was long rumored to be gay, as she showed no interest in the opposite sex until fairly recently.
Shatterstar and Rictor of X-Force were long rumored to be gay, and they were apparently outed in the new X-Factor book.

Eh, I definately see the whole Nico-Karolina thing but I don't see that making her bi or even bi curious. It's like, yeah she MAY have some sort of feelings for K, but that doesn't mean she would ever consider being with any other girl. Like that guy from Culture Club who fell in love with Boy George but never had any feelings for any other man whatsoever. Or like what's going on with Craig and Jean-Paul in Hollyoaks at the minute...(lol you'd hafta be a UK-er to know about that). But...yeah. I believe it's possible for people to have so much love for someone that it transcends gender...but that doesn't make them gay or bi or whatever. Wouldn't it be great if that was the norm though? The day when terms such as "gay" and "bi" no longer need to apply and we can all just be "people"!
Heh, Julie too? Damn, it seems that every team nowadays needs to have a gay character :D
:D Particularly the teens! We have K in Runaways, Vic in New X-Men, Teddy & Billy in Young Avengers...you just watch - Trauma will be next!

Nah, there was a bit more with Bobby. Back in Defenders he was in love with Cloud, the girl who sometimes became a boy. I think he also had a crush on that butch Moondragon too. Plus you add to it his inability to make a relationship work with women, his habit of wearing form fitting speedos, and the remarks Emma made about his secrets or something after she occupied his mind and there totally is evidence!
In the long run, Bobby is only as gay as we want him to be. He's nebulous enough that if you think he's straight then he's obviously straight, but if you think he's gay or bi then there is a lot of evidence for that too. I love him! :D

The Fin Fang Foom in Nextwave seems to have been a clone created by Beyond (just like the ersatz Devil Dinosaur) - we've seen both since Nextwave, depicted in the same way as they had been in their appearances just prior to Nextwave.
