Watching the JLU "Cadmus Saga" in reruns on Boomerang, I couldn't help but think about the DCU Cadmus.
What happened to Project Cadmus? I mean, I think I may remember them being mentioned during the OMAC project, but it was just a quick mention. Whatever happened to it?

I think the Cadmus Project disappeared around the time of the Imperiex War; at the very least, I can't think of a single storyline that took place afterwards where it was even mentioned.
Frankly, it's not necessarily a bad thing; I always felt that the Project got way too much screen time both before and after the Death and Return arcs. Someone new in town? It's probably a clone from Cadmus. Lex Luthor II, Guardian, Dubbliex, the DNAliens, Anomaly, the Hairies, giggidy giggidy goo. Enough already, there are more ways to tell character backstories without making them clones. In some ways I think it encouraged lazy writership.

I really miss Cadmus too. One of the great new concepts built up in the '90s and then immediately forgotten about following creative/editorial changes.
Of course, given the amount of shady practices that occured there, it makes sense that it was publicly shut down, but I'd love to find out that it's still in operation deep underground.

Ironic that you accuse some folks of lazy "writership" while you go around making up your own words.
Anyway, Cadmus was a great idea that just needs to be brought up to date. I certainly think we need to keep around as many of Jack Kirby's creations as possible.

Hey, I resent that. Making up words is hard, and is ANYTHING but lazy. :)
I didn't say Cadmus was a BAD thing, I just felt it got overused. It's had quite a break from the spotlight at this point, so it definitely could be brought back into the fold.

Okay, this is what I had thought. Ahhh.. the problems of editorial changes.

Bah; Lex cheating death and returning to Metropolis in a youthful clone body purporting to be his own son was awesome, and was only tangentally linked to the whole Cadmus thing (i.e. the Dabney Donovan connection).
Agreed that Cadmus started producing a lot of goofy and forgettable characters, like many of the ones youl mentioned plus the unnecessary multiple versions of the Newsboy Legion and the hey-dude 90s Superboy (I liked the Guardian, though). The idea of Cadmus is super-cool, but over time the execution left something to be desired and it got kind of campy and overexposed. It's certainly due for a revamp and comeback; I think Busiek could do wonders with a re-imagining of the Cadmus Project.
if I'm not mistaken, the last arc of the Catwoman book dealt with some of the leftover Cadmus tech that was stored away. It was very cool to see it!! :)

The only person who could make Cadmus interesting to me is Grant Morrison. He managed it with The Guardian so anything is possible!
