View Full Version : It's probably something obvious, but I have a question about Superman numbering

I'll admit to not being a Superman reader for some years, but I just bought a comic shop a couple months ago, and I'm a little confused while organizing my back issues.

I have books titled "Superman" numbering in the 200's and in the 600's. My assumption is that one in the 200's is the John Byrne one from the mid-80's, and that the other one is much older, although I'm starting to think they're the same series. The DC website only lists the one in the 600's, but all those Azzarello and Lee issues were 200-something.

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but can somebody help clear up my confusion?

They ran a Superman title until the Crisis on Infinite Earths, when it was renamed Adventures of Superman starting with #424. A second volume of Superman was started with issue 1 and lasted until #226 last year. AOS was retitled Superman starting with #650.

So AOS is the new Superman, and Byrne's Superman got cancelled last year? I think that's what you're saying.

Thanks for the help. It would have taken me way too long to figure that out on my own.

Sort of. The current Superman title is the original one, which was renamed Adventures of Superman beginning with the Wolfman/Ordway stories during the Byrne revamp. It continued with that title until last year when the title was once again changed back to the simpler "Superman."

Byrne's Superman began with #1 and continued until last year, when it was finally discontinued (at the same time that Adventures reverted to the simpler Superman title).

Hope that helps.

Yep, it sure does.

Thanks a bunch.
