So I was just reading up on the upcoming Messiah Complex event. Apparently it will be delivered as a number of eight page bonus stories at the end of the regular X titles. But I was wondering...will the regular issues themselves have anything to do with the cross over? If not, why does Marvel think I have any interest in paying full price for and eight page story attached to a title that means nothing to me?
I read Astonsinhg and Adjectiveless. I have no interest in following books like X-Factor and New X-Men. Is this just a shameless marketing ploy? If so, does that bother anyone else?

No. Messiah Complex will be the whole story of each issue.
Endangered Species is 8 page back-ups that kick off the build-up to the event.
X-Men: Endangered Species 8 Page Back-Up Stories:
"No More Mutants."
With three little words, an entire race was nearly obliterated. Every mutant who dies is one number closer to zero. Endangered Species, a series of 8-page back-ups in the four core X-Titles, follows the Beast as he races against the clock to save this once-thriving race.

What he said. The 8 pages long chapters are a back-up story. Most likely about Beast failing miserably or going completely insane. :D
And regarding which titles have anything to do with the crossover...
Definitely Adjectiveless for the introduction of Sinister's crew.
Astonishing on some level due to Cyke most likely going hardcore in it. But then again, that one was rather Whedon writing something that was in line with the x-office's plans for Cyke rather than being directly related to the crossover's events.

Honestly there is no way this is going to be good.

It doesn't, it's just not involved in the crossover.

No, that's #204. How weird.
Maybe they mixed things up when doing this list? Or maybe we're getting #204 and #205 on the same month (october)?

I just reprint what they have listed. Maybe you can ask Senor Carey?

Noticed the very same thing days ago.
Just, what, we'll get a micro-arc or two one-shots with nothing happening??

Regarding X-Men 205... mayve there was a miss-print of the original list, and that list was passed around, so now everyone has it, lol

It's a typo. #205 is crossover land already.
