View Full Version : Supergirl confusion...

I've just finished reading Supergirl # 16... and... it looks like after Loeb left the project it just got bad, really bad. There is so much confusion in the story due to many writers that have done it, and the story is just... "b movie":
They invented the ghosts of the phantom zone, that have possessed the kryptonians, and thats why Kara must kill Kal, to set him free of the ghosts/bodysnatchers?
They introduced Power Boy... that just sounds bad enough as it is.
Supergirl is with Boomerang junior, or is she? He is in love with her, she lives with him, but she talks about Nightwing, and smootches with Power Boy?
Then Batgirl attacks her... WHY? I didn't get that part right.
Then she is on Kandor, fighting El's descendents... or something. And then the story stops with no logical explanation! Was she delusional, or was it a Multiverse bad-acid trip?
Then there is good her, bad her, black krypton separation... then you add Wonder Womans lasso, mix it all up and you get one Supergirl that has no idea whats happening...
Can anyone make this clear to me?
Thanks

The Monitors were testing her and one of their disciples took it too far in the last arc that ended in 18 I believe. But very true that since Loeb left, the story has gone to garbage, its like DC abandoned a very popular book once its created left. OYL and on have made no sense.

You can try the superman forums. But I'm with you. It's like every other issue there's some shocking plot twist that changes everything we knew all over again.
You know that things are only going to get more confusing when Donna Troy (or at least one of her evil multiverse counter parts) suddenly enters the storyline.

It was pretty crappy with Loeb, too.
Tony Bedard and Renato Guedes will save it.

I like Loeb, and they won't save anything with the artistry I have seen.

Loeb's Supergirl was a horrible series of ridiculous fights against other heroes every issue. A total waste of time. Rucka/Kelly's (at least up to my last issue, 11) was even worse. It's just been bad all around.
I'll be getting it again when bedard comes on, for the Legion connection.

At times Supergirl can be written very well--but its SO scattershot and SO mixed in with crap. She makes sense as an angsty type--a heck of a lot more than most DCers. But when that aspect is mismanaged (as it has been lately)? Pee-yu it stinks!

By God, we will get through one discussion on this board that doesn't have to do with the endowments of a comic book character.
Here's the place for it, if you must: http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=176966

I started reading Supergirl from #14 and I've liked each issue up till now. #18 was just a mess. I couldn't follow it either. I also recently bought and read the first Supergirl TP, Power. It didn't really clear anything up, it was just an excuse for a superhero knees up. Quite dissapointed in Mr. Loeb. I've still no idea why all the heroes wanted to smash her skull in.
As I said, I enjoyed #14-17 enough and I'm a fan of Ale Gara's art so I'll give the book another chance. But only two issues at the most.
Yeah Supergirl has been crappy since Loeb wrote her.

I knew this book woudl suck when I read that goofy superhero introcution at the end of Superm/Batman.
Total garbage. I read the Kandor arc and I'm like good lord.
Why can't they make her like the DC animated Supergirl. Free form, fun and gunning for adventure outside her cousin's shadow. At times it looked like she didn't even like Superman. That is what I didn't like about the character.
The distancethey kept trying to establish between her and Supes made ZERO sense.

I must be really in the minority since I like Joe Kelly's run on SuperGirl. At least you guys will be happy since Joe Kelly's run is to end with issue #19. :o It's good thing that issues #10-19 will be printed in a TPB in November which I will be getting. :)
