Watch it. (http://www.tv-links.co.uk/show.do/3/3657)

"Arms Alchemy." That is a fitting title. Mita and Kazuki; and others who will be introduced, I'm sure; are alchemy warriors (well, at the start Kazuki is a trainee, but we can all assume what happens through progression). This definitely feels like Rurouni Kenshin. So, if you were looking for something as mature and dark as Fullmetal Alchemist, you better look elsewhere. Other than themes and names, this is not a thing like Fullmetal Alchemist (FMA). Not just because of the bloodless violence, but where FMA took a more human approach to alchemy, Busou Renkin chooses a gadget-laden tech route. For example, the homunculus in FMA were fleshy and hominine. The homunculus in Busou Renkin? Crystalized tech monsters. While probably enjoyable in its own right, Busou Renkin is for young kids, whereas FMA catered to a more mature audience. This is bascially FMA-lite.

It was interesting, but not nearly as good as Kenshin. But at least Watsuki was trying.

I'm still pissed that the moderate-to-poor fan reception forced him to end the title prematurely(all because he made a few homages to his own series, WTF!). It had the potential to become something almost as good as Kenshin if it was allowed to flesh out completely.

Yeah, it was definitely something that didn't have enough time to mature. But most manga publishers are fickle like that--if something's not a hit immediately, chances are it'll be canceled. I enjoyed it well enough, and I didn't want to see it axed, but I wasn't particularly surprised.

Count me in as part of the poor-to-moderate reception.

I saw the first 2-3 episodes and saw nothing really unique or that stood out in my mind enough to compel me to keep watching.

Well, I'd rather read it than watch it. Then add to that that I want to read Kenshin first and only have one volume and haven't read that. Yeah. Not getting to this any time soon.
