Mutants losing their powers.
The High evolutionary already did this....expect ALL mutants lost their powers and it was a good story, it even had Sinister.
But the thing is we all know this isn't going to last, there's no threat to the X-men.
Why do they care about the next generation anyway? There's been extremely little 'new blood' in the X-Mens for decades. Cannonball is probably the only one to actually graduate and even then he was already on the team when Lobdell wrote the series.
marvel's never going to "graduate" Xforce, GenX, New Mutants/Hellions, into the ranks of the Xmen b/c Most of the X-men are NEVER going to retire.
So this whole "our future is in question" is BS! 20 years from now Scott/wolverine/jean/storm/xavier/Rogue are still going to be in the cast of the xmen.
Decimation is just like any other 'crossover' ......its a HUGE marketing ploy to get you to spend more money on their products.

I understand that you have opinions, and that you think your opinion is interesting, but we have so many discussions where you can express your opinion. You do not need to (and should not) form your own thread to do so.

11. "YOU LACK READING COMPREHENSION" IS AN INSULT
It is against rule #1. Just in case you were curious
You're assuming I haven't read the rules...like i said it isn't an opinion thread....the "snoo snoo" thread is more opinionated than this one :)
I mean decimation/endangered species even has the same characters as the Evolutionary story: Sinister, Mystique, Rogue, Storm, Scott.
I think one of the more poignant parts was when Rogue posed as Irene Adler to try to get Mystique out of prison, she can't and Raven yells at her over the phone and then Rogue cries....it so touching.

This has pretty much been talked to death over a year ago. Is there really need to go back to it?
As for comparing this to the High Evolutionary storyline? There is one very clear difference. The High Evolutionary depowering mutants for the blink of an eye with his magical hoodoo machine was both a short and largely throwaway story, and only referenced the X-Books.
DeciMation is a reference point for the entire Marvel Universe - it's not X-Brand exclusive. And it's not just a short storyline that can be resolved by the flick of a switch - it's permanent. We're not just turning mutant powers 'off' we're talking about removing them on a genetic level, literally removing the gene which allows mutation to occur in human beings. We're talking about removing the possibility of any more mutants even being born. That's a very different concept.
yes, some mutants have been repowered, but with the exception of Magneto this has all been done by artificial means. Be it Quicksilver giving ex-mutants new powers via the Inhumans' Terrigen Mists in Son of M/X-Factor, or Albion giving ex-mutants Captain Britain suits in New Excalibur the principle is the same.
This doesn't make them mutants again.
They have superhuman powers but by either magic, genetic tinkering, or technology. They're not mutants.

On the first part ... stories get recycled constantly. Always have. *shrug*
On the second part ... Wanda basically started a more benign version of the Holocaust here, so its less about getting new X-men in the ranks but actually being able to continue as a species. I'd think the X-men give a :care: about that.
As for the third; thats not news to anyone.

That's just it tho...Marvel would NEVER make this stick b/c then it'd be like a swansong for their #1 selling franchaise it'd be like saying "this is the end of the xmen and we're not going to publish stories about mutants anymore"

X-Men hasn't been #1 for quite some time.
As evidenced by all those solo X-Men books launching and failing within twelve months.
The brand ain't that strong anymore.

The X-men solo books were never a sucess. Except for Wolverine, only Gambit was able to have a solo for more than 12 issues, and that was in the 90's, when he was probably the 2nd most popular X-men and the team was the only thing that Marvel pushed.

Well, the future is in question. Things will probably return to normal eventually, but there's still huge questions about how this will come to be, and what will happen in the mean time.
I'm tired of event-driven comics as well. I don't really read much X-Men anymore, and that used to be ALL I read. But I don't understand (and I'm not necessarily referring to you here) the resentment over things that have been around forever.
For example, the future of a comic book series is ALWAYS in question, it's the nature of serial fiction. They're not trying to trick you, it's the truth.
And creating a story that keeps you guessing and makes you wonder what will happen next is not really a "HUGE marketing plot to get you to spend more money on their products" as much as it is the desired goal of any company that produces any kind of entertainment. Of course they want you to buy more. They're a company. And the fact that they want to tell (what they see as) compelling stories to turn a profit is hardly sinister.

Not at all. It's actually writing a story which challenges the X-Men for a change. And X-Men are not #1 anymore. They actually have a srerious challenge in the sales department from several MU titles these days.

I dont' think you're getting what I'm saying. If you ask anyone on the street about Marvel comics they'll say X-men. The 3 movies have made 100's of millions of dollars and its been around since the 1960's. Even if YOU think the Xmen aren't selling they're probably the most popular comic book superhero team of THIS generation thanks to the various cartoons and movies.
The way you're talking it's as if marvel could cancel every Xbook and still stay in business.

I don't think most people on the street know or care about Marvel or DC.
And if they do know about Marvel Comics they'll probably relate it to Spider-Man rather than the children of the atom.

Hmmm. To be honest I think more people would be likely to say Spider-man first. At the moment you might even gets some people saying Fantastic Four, with the new movie coming out.
X-Men as a bran has fallen away a little bit in recent years. A lot of new readers still find it inpenetrable with the number of core titles and satellites. Things have picked up a little in the last couple of years thanks to Whedon and lst years writer shuffle on the other two cores, but with the success of New Avengers and Marvel's focus on promoting MU titles the X-Books simply don't have the market share they once did.
The 3 movies have made 100's of millions of dollars and its been around since the 1960's.
Spider-man has made Marvel a higher pencentage in exactly the same period. And just because X-Mren have been around since the 60s - so what? It's still younger than Spidey, Fantastic Four or Avengers. Age means nothings compared to sales.
Even if YOU think the Xmen aren't selling they're probably the most popular comic book superhero team of THIS generation thanks to the various cartoons and movies.
Sure it became the biggest cash cow on Marvel farm in the 90s. But towards the end of the decade and post 2000 it's been very difficult to keep X-Men on an even keel. Why do you think so many writers have been tried. Keeping up that pace has proved very diffcult indeed.
The way you're talking it's as if marvel could cancel every Xbook and still stay in business.
No. That's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that in the 90s X-Men owned Marvel. Now they're not the only line to be making Marvel a lot of money. They're share of the pie is not quite as gargantuan as what it once was.

I think the books have been great as of the last 3 years. But your right it will go back eventually. But if DeciMation gets us some great stories then in the end it was all worth it. Keep us guessing, keep us wondering. If you go into comic books with the notion,"it doesn't matter, it's all gonna go back to the same anyway" then don't read comics. I read mine to be entertained, to watch characters I like go through trials and battles. This coming crossover will entertain I believe. So it'll be worth my money.

No, they'll say "Spider-Man". There's a reason why Sony decided to use the freakin' Spider-Man movie font when it came to marketing their new Playstation 3, after all.

They were X-men only after their solos were launched. And in Dazzler's case, after it was cancelled.
