Tony how many issues of the Outsiders are you doing?
Is the title going to restart as Batman & The Outsiders?

I'm glad to see someone other than Winnick writing Outsiders. Nothing against him, it's just that the man has pretty much written the entire series. I'd like to see someone like Tony's take on the Characters.

I enjoy his art, i wouldn't call it the best, but i think its good.
Congrats on the gig Tony, I'm not going to lie, i dont read DC, but i love the fact that you are getting much love from them!

Can't wait for this to come out. I like that Batman will be dual-membershiped (new word?) with Outsiders and JLA. Sounds great. I want to know if the Catwoman on the solicit image is Selina or Holly.

Yeah its looking more and more like Tony's ideas were a one hit wonder with the Black canary mini. His ideas for supergirl sound and played out awful in 20
Then it looks like there will be no Boomer(which he has no control over(I can get that, but then he kicks an awesome character like Thunder off the team in order to put a Mediocre joke of MM on.)
Next we'll probably see Grace leave and then there won't be anyone left from the old team and no one worth picking up the book for.(well shift but he was only worth it when Indigo was around.)
I mean it was bad enough when Indigo was killed, then starfire and arsenal left, now grace, boomer and Thunder.
In there place we get Catwoman, aquaman and MM real outsiders because they have failed to be written well either since the beginning of time(AMan) or for a long while like(MM and Catwoman)
Now unless Grace, Thunder and such get their own books they'll get stranded and/or killed while I puke at the sight of the new team.
I mean if DC wanted to give Bedard the book they should have set some limits, one being don't get rid of all the cool people from the old team and and then just create a new team out of thin air with crap you want to try and make popular and then call it the same name as the team before. As its clearly not even close to anything of the goodness outsiders has been since Winick picked up the handle)

Johnny, did it ever occur to you that your opinions are just that...your opinions. It's irritating the way you state them as gospel truth. It's cool that you loved Winick and his team, but you know what? There are a lot of other people who didn't like them. That doesn't make you wrong, but it doesn't make the others wrong either. Give us all a break, and chill out!

Ah, it's okay, folks. Johnny Luck is actually right. Black Canary was the only good work I'll ever do for DC...on purpose.
It all springs from the burning resentment I've carried in my heart since I worked on staff in DCU editorial. One day in the office, I found that my lunch had been stolen from the office fridge! And on that day, a master plan for revenge was born...
I left the company and spent a couple years writing for CrossGen to establish my writer cred. Then I went to Marvel, not because I enjoyed it, but with the sole purpose of making DC notice me. It was all so I could get an exclusive at DC, tease them with a decent story on Black Canary, and then destroy every other book I could get my hands on! :evilsmile
Just wait till my 4 issues of Birds of Prey! You'll be calling 'em "Turds of Prey" by the time I'm through with 'em...
PS: Johnny Luck, to be honest I enjoyed your post. You obviously feel strongly on the matter and you got it off your chest. No prob. I will point out that some of the assumptions you're making are premature, and I hope you'll be around to be pleasantly surprised by the way BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDERS unfolds. But even if you aren't, I don't mind a little heartfelt venting on the boards now and then.

Martian Manhunter is royalty amongst DC fans, actually, comic books love him:)

Geez what's with all the hate? Did I log into the DC boards?
Tony's Supergirl issue was awesome as was his Black Canary and Legion issues. I want Tony, Gail, Andreyko, Morrison, Waid, Rucka and Johns among others to write all of the DC books.
Can't any one voice their opinions constructively rather than tear down the writer?

The DC Boards..LOL ! ok thats funny I was thinking the SAME exact thing when I started reading this thread. I agree that Tony is one of the best writers we have in the industry right now..he writes with intelligence and with respect for the character. The man actually wrote Supergirl as a rational "human" being...a first for this incarnation of the character ! I think so many books are written in such a simplistic manner that when a writer like Tony comes along with a more mature complex style that demands you pay attention to the words and not just the pictures..it just causes some people to lose it ! I have to say Id rather read something that entertains, excites AND makes me think than something that just amuses me for the moment.
Tony, Keep up the good work !

I just found the whole event of 5 of a kind a disappointment. Some of the stories were decent as separate one shots but the fact that they were connected to the event didn't make sense to me. I also felt like the stories should have conveyed batman's reasons for who picked for his team. These reasons seemed to be forced and just pulled out of the air in my opinion.

Speaking of Five of a Kind 5... did anyone notice that sign in the background behind Grace and Wonder Woman that says "Infinite Crisis? Where's it?"
A clue, or a flub?

Tony wrote the 5 of a kind with Thunder and Martian Manhunter right?
You know when you recently read something and it pops up somewhere else?
"Who names their kid Sigourney?" Well Sigourney Weaver's parents didn't. Her real name is Susan. She got Sigourney from a very small (not seen) character in the Great Gatsby.
The Five of Kind thing didn't do much for me as a whole. I did like #50 and the new lineup! I'd like to see J'onn shine here. He can create a number of "villain" identities for himself. If everyone knows your weakness is fire and you had shapeshifting powers wouldn't you pretend to be somebody else? :)

Wow - this is a surprising turn of events:
Chuck Dixon named as new Batman and the Outsiders writer (http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=133176)
I'm a little disappointed that we won't get to read Tony's take on the characters but that Dixon guy is no slouch either! ;)

This SUCKS !
I was really looking forward to Tony having his own monthly series..Im loving his fill in work on Legion, Birds Of Prey, And Supergirl , My complaint was that he didnt have his own monthly title after proving he can consistantly write great stories for so many titles at once. I was thinking "FINALLY !!" when hearing he was getting The Outsiders , and now I hear this ! I hope Tony is given another title to write ..I would love to see him on Birds of Prey as the regular writer and I think he would be a great writer for Catwoman's series, he has a natch for writing really great female characters. My opinion of DC has really been slipping this last year and if I hear Tony has no books..it may fall completely..If they give a (in my personal opinion) mediocre writer like Winick all these top titles to write and leave Tony with nothing.. im gonna be pissed !! Tony has more than proven he is deserving of having a top title to write !

Yeah, that sucks Tony. Sorry.
I religiously followed your CrossGen and Marvel work, and I bought every issue of Retro Rocket and loved it. DC is a little harder for me to get into (only books I buy regularly are JSA and Brave and the Bold), but it's still not cool to treat you that way. Of course, DC may not even be the right place for you, since they always seem caught up with the latest crossover and have so much of their stories coming from top-down. I think your best work is when you are free to create worlds and characters without all that in the way. In any event, I hope the rest of your exclusive goes better than the way they handled this. Eventually you will move on to bigger and better things.

Not crazy about the team. Honestly I liked Tony writing Black Canary mini, but thought his take on supergirl was completely out of left field to how I like her and to how she had been written in issues previous.(too the point of she didn't have a single trait she had and all traists she had previous were pretty much lost) His Birds issue fill in was good, but after reading TT51 I glad Sean is taking over the title full time soon.
Maybe if the change was slower over time and less in your face goodness/worrying about what others think/ going to clarks family kara I might have been able to except it. But it still would have been nice to see some of the traits built and given to her in the first 17 issues.
I also miss the MeteMorph/Grace/Thunder/Boomer member team, and more so the Indigo/Shift/Grace/Thunder/Jade/Starfire team.
So Either way even if his outsiders was good I really don't care enough(theres one person thats likable on the team) I probably wouldn't have been reading it whether it was Bedard or Dixon.

This was a big shock. I can't really complain about the results, because I love Chuck Dixon. But I love Tony's work too and was looking forward to his take on Batman. However, I hope everyone noticed Tony has an arc coming in Batman Confidential beginning in January; I'm definitely looking forward to that (I love the Wraith.)
I've certainly been enjoying everything Tony's been doing at DC (though I gave up on Legion during Waid's tenure). Personally, I'd love to see Tony on Green Arrow/ Black Canary, based on his excellent job on the latter's mini-series.

His writing made the Legion exciting again, and he seemed to stay a little more true to the characters than Waid did. Hopefully he's got something else really big planned now that he's got a bit more free time in his schedule ;)

it seems to me Tony was never given a chance to make his ideas work in the marketplace. From the interview I read it didn't seem like this was a case of
the creative team being behind. It just seemed like editorial had a change of heart out of the blue. Maybe the sales on 5 of a kind didn't live up to expectations, though and they panicked.

Ah, I was really looking forward to Tony Bedard on B and Out. Issue 50 was brilliant. And Chuck Dixon, well, he has written some good stuff but it seems to be hit or miss with him. Tony, if you are reading this, I don't read Birds of Prey regularly (gotta limit my comic list somehow), but I loved your Exiles run (especially your filler Wolverine issues - brilliant; and Kulan Gath saga). However, I really loved Negation (kudos to Pelliter too for both of these runs) and am still pining away for issues 3-6 of Negation War (I assume at least a couple of the scripts were written - and the rest is in your head). Maybe now that Checker (or Checker Book?) publishing is printing (has the rights to?) at least some of the remaining uncollected CrossGen Trades, they will be interested in finishing Negation War?

Y'know, I sent Checkers an email and never got a reply, so who knows what they're up to. I'd love to see more NEGATION tpbs, though, along with another ROUTE 666 trade or two, and one for KISS KISS BANG BANG. They actually have more material than they realize for NEGATION trades, if you include MARK OF CHARON aand a couple of one-shots.
But I doubt they'll ever produce the unfinished part of NEGATION WAR.

Ah well, it was worth a shot. Guess I'll just have to reread all my Negation comics yet again (I just bought the first trade and my one missing Mark of Charon) which were the last issues I was missing (my favorites are the issues with Javi and co. just after Mark of Charon). I'll have to pick up the rest of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang if it comes out in tpb.
Cheers

On the brighter side, I finally got 5-of-a-kind with mixed feelings. The Bedard issue with Thunder was great as was Boomer/Nightwing and Metamorpho/Aquaman. The other two were cheesy/plot-flawed.

Really? I thought Chuck's first issue was pretty good, albeit a bit rushed. Still, I'm a Bedard fan and would have liked to see what he would have done.
Has anyone seen Tony Isabella's review of the BATO #1? He claims that he has a source saying that Bedard was fired. Here's the column: http://www.cbgxtra.com/default.aspx?tabid=42&view=topic&forumid=28&postid=37768
To be honest, I'm skeptical, given the fact that Isabella clearly states his bias in the article.

If we've got to quote somebody on this, let's at least quote someone who can give the inside scoop. Read Chuck's comments here (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showpost.php?p=5914795&postcount=48).
Now, having said that, I think we should just drop it. It bothers me when people talk like Tony isn't here on his own forum. I think he's made it pretty clear (through his silence) that this isn't a topic he wishes to discuss. So I think the rest of us should respect that.

I really just didn't like Dixon's issues (although my wife did). The characterization was fine. The plot just didn't get me excited. Oooh, a bad corporation. That makes OMACs (aren't we done with those yet?)! At the very least, it didn't follow from Tony's 5 of a kind. No need to be 'villains' to do that stuff. And, Martian Manhunter could have ended the whole OMAC fight in 3 seconds. But he was too busy spraypainting in order to sneak in. Not like he has intangibility and invisibility...oh wait, he does.
Sorry for the critique....but the issues just weren't that good for me.
