Hey,

Anybody else having somebody trying to hack into their accounts?

I keep on getting a message from CBR saying they've frozen my account because somebody's trying to log in with the wrong password 5 times.

I've been getting these all morning. They say the person is from this IP address:

70.86.138.114

I've traced it and contacted the abuse people at theplanet about it, but I was wondering if other people are getting this or if I'm just special?

Curious.

Anthony LI've received two queries about this myself. Looks like someone is phishing or it could be related to the new server, although I'm not sure how. Regardless, I'll be banning the above IP block from accesing the forums.

I got 2 emails today saying someone tried to log in under my account to CBR with that IP address.

Once at 1150 AM (AST) and 203 PM (AST).

Both times I was at work.

Apocalypse now then mentioned it too. It does seem to be an "A" thing.

Somebody tried with me, too & I was asleep at the time.

Thought it was odd...and pointless.

All the complaints I got today were from people who had handles that started with the letter A. Let's hope it ends there.

Not to jinx myself... but I haven't had a problem. Good to see that this is being handled in such a thorough manner... good work as always Jonah.

I feel sad that I've not had a hacking attempt on my account.

Just checked my email and:

Your account on Comic Book Resources Forums has been locked because someone has tried to log into the account with the wrong password more than 5 times. You will be able to attempt to log in again in another 15 minutes.

The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 70.86.138.114

So it looks like it may be an A thing.

We're working on this. I banned the IP using vBulletin's IP banning, but that's not enough. I've asked my admin to ban that IP on a server wide level.

Jonah Weiland

OK, the full Class C ban has been put in place.

Interestingly, it's not only CBR that's been attacked:

We're going to ban that IP address. Thanks, folks. Sorry about this -- apparently there has been a rash of hacking attempts on vBulletin forums over the past week.

Just a notice that I got it myself... 2 E-mails from CBR over the night.

They tried me too today (from 74.53.243.34). Hopefully Jonah banning the IP will keep them from moving on to the Cs. I kinda doubt it though because this seems to be someone with WAY too much free time.

It got into the Early Cs. I know Cain of Dreaming got one of those E-Mails.

Hmm, be carefull guy's don't say anything too personal on your PM's, because what kind of Haker ever try's to hack into someones account by quessing there pasword?

I think it might ethere be someone really stupid, or someone that has a plan, and this is just a setup...

What do you think?

Yeah, I overlooked cactusmaac's post too. Let me changed that to "Hopefully Jonah banning the IP will keep them from moving on to the Ds". Or later Cs. Or mid Cs. Or past the CAs. The point is that I hope he/she/it is stopped.

I've had 3 emails. The last 2 IPs were

67.82.251.154 & 74.53.243.34

Weird as it sounds, thank God it wasn't just me. I was paranoid for a bit there.

If the IPs in the e-mails you've received haven't been listed in this thread before, please post them so that we can ban these jerks.

Thanks.

I hope this jokester is caught and fast. I don't like the idea that the bot or whoever may successfully get one of our posters' password. They're not after the account itself, in most cases. They're looking for greater access to the server and ways to gain root access so that they can use the server for denial of service attacks and stuff of that sort.

No hacking problems so far, in the three years I've been on CBR, but I never log into CBR from my email. I always come here first so that I can log in directly to the site and avoid any "phishing" emails that might look like they came from CBR.

However, do any of you use anti-keylogger programs? If so, which ones?

I hate hearing about stuff like this because I'm really paranoid about my computer's security.

It isnít that weíve been logging on from email (I didnít know you could do that anyway); itís that we received emails saying that our accounts had been temporarily disabled because someone tried to guess our passwords repeatedly.

Ahhh. I didn't know that. (That sucks. Hackers suck!)

I wonder who the hackers are.
