I bought a Labatts Tampa Bay Lightning Stanley Cup replica... I've always wanted to buy one, but it seemed stupid to have since they haven't been able to get past the second round. This year is different. I realize that they're not assured a victory against Calgary, I think it's nice to have a symbolic piece honoring their achievements. Last night's win against Philly brought tears to my eyes. Go Lightning!

I have to admit, I'm a seasoned sniper... I usually wait 45 seconds before I make my bids... I'm ashamed... well, not really. :p

things that i've won recently...
original art to midnight nation, the cover of #12, by gary frank
batman hush t-shirt by jim lee-the one that was the cover to the reissue of 608 and 609
nypd blue poster to the 2002-2003 season
as far as sniping goes, i've been the sniper and the snipee and there's only one thing to say...you don't lose because someone bid in the last ten seconds. you lose auctions because someone was willing to bid more than you were.

I didn't win, and I am bloody annoyed that I forgot about it even though Ireminded my self ahour before and only missed it by 2 minutes. It was 77 issues of Generation X including the first 10. And it went for only £30, thats $50 or so.

Actually, it's more like what did I win vs what did I get.

I won a "used" copy of Sopranos Season 3. Used meant bootleg. Long story short: Got ripped off, out $42.

I won a huge Avengers (70 comics) auction within the same week. Over 30 days, nothing. No responses to emails. The guy has immaculate feedback and has been active since the auction I won closed. :evilangry

Since 1999, I've never been ripped off as a buyer on ebay and it happens twice in the same month.

Since my jersey arrived in the mail yesterday (YAY!) I've only ever had one problem buying on eBay, and that was waaaaay back in, like, 199... something. I won a set of comics from a buyer, sent him the money, and never got my stuff. Grrrrrrr.

Nothing as of yet, but I do have my eye on some early runs of DD, Amazing Spider-Man and Ghost Rider. ...all depends on how much postage will cost from the US to Australia.

Also spotted some cheap 'graded' issues, however, I will more than likely skip those as I actually want to read the stuff.

I've won somewhere in the neighborhood of around 20 or so different things on ebay just related to comics...too numerous to really go through.

My last win was for a copy of the 'Reaper' TPB, for 99 cents.

If anyone is really interested in learning how to compete with snipers on ebay, myself being a prime one, just shoot me a PM, and I'll point you in the right direction for appropriate software, and can give pointers on how to use it effectively.

An earlier comment regarding snipers, and sniping programs in general was right on the money; 'You didn't get outbid by a sniper, mearly by someone else that was willing to pay more than you were'.

With any sniping software, if you set it to bid in the last few seconds (mine is effective to the last second, btw) you have to set the maximum amount you're willing to bid...just like anyone else. So, if you're willing to pay more for something than any other bidder, you'll win it. The effectiveness of sniping, and being effective with those techniques on ebay require some research on both how ebay fundamentally works, and how to pick your battles.

I would have to say the #1 reason I use a sniping program is because I don't have to be there to bid. How many times have you seen items going at some retarded hour that you know you'll miss....or auctions you forget about? Sniping programs allow you the freedom to place your bids, and not locking you to your computer. To me, that's what makes the program worthwhile to me in the first place. I put in what I'm willing to pay for something, set it to place my bid at the last second (or two), and then forget about it. If someone else wants to pay more than I do, and places that bid before my program is ready to, my bid gets cancelled, and I don't win...or it'll place my bid at the appropriate time, and I'll get outbid by the person that was willing to pay more.

I think this would be more appropriate for separate thread, but my offer still stands for anyone wanting more information on this, or help.

I've been getting pretty despondent over comic book purchases under 5 issues because it seems sellers don't care about packing fragile items to maintain its advertised NM/M condition. I've had packages where the comics were "protected" by cut-up cardboard that already had 2 pre-folds in them, so the bends promoting even more spine creases, etc. I've practically had to beg some sellers to use boxes and kicking extra $$$ for them to use the box.

One seller just dumped 12 issues into a paper envelope and shipped via UPS, and the package arrive with one side ripped wide open and every single issue was reduce to fine condition or worse with various dings and spine creases. I just don't get it.

Perhaps I should just stick to hardcovers on Ebay.

ObTopic: I won a set of High Roads that got trashed via the poor shipping (the pre-folded cardboard). I won a stack of Liberty Meadows back issues. I won an Astro City HC. I won a LOEG Vol 2 HC. I won a Best of Spider-man Vol 2 HC. I won a Vaughn set of Mystique issues 1-14.

Ooooh, Slam.

I can't even begin to tell you how good that one is.

You have no idea how excited I am about this comic strip lot. I've wanted this book for a long time...the Raboy Flash...and completing the four volumes of Batman strips (I have 2 of the dailies and the Sunday book already). The only one I wasn't too sure of was Latigo, but I remember Lynde's "Ric O'Shay" as being good.

A BUNCH?

Christmas shopping early?

Heh. Well, I already had one. I've purchased 3 more of the same model in the past month or so.

One I purchased because I thought it was a good price and I could either give it to a relative or keep it. Turned out it didn't work PERFECTLY and the batteries were pretty useless, so I negotiated a lower price (as opposed to a full refund, which I'd already been granted). Lovely.

Another I purchased for parts, but it turned out that the darn thing worked just fine - it just hadn't been tested thoroughly enough, I guess. Great device, but I purchased it at a "for parts/salvage" price. Beautiful.

Finally, there was one that had an extra factory battery (total of two batteries) that would've cost me a good chunk of the total price for the whole package, so I thought it was worth it. Sexy.

All were VERY GOOD deals or near-steals which I should be quickly arrested and put in solitary for taking advantage of. :D

Now, I've got to decide what to do with'em all. :o

My co-worker, whom I introduced to eBay, recently received his four-door pick-up truck. Yes. He bought it on eBay.

I take full credit (and not a drop of the blame :p ) since he got into eBay b/c he got sick of seeing all of my wonderful items come in or get sold and just couldn't think of any good reason not to get involved. He started small and worked his way up (obviously).

Another thing I think I forgot to mention was the HP 7400c scanner and ADF (automatic document feeder) I got on eBay. Awesome.

We have this model at work so I was already familiar with it (hmm... maybe I DID post this, already). Once I saw how much better my pictures looked when scanned using the HP, I decided it was time for a change. I'd had the old scanner for YEARS. It'd put its time in. Maybe I can pass it onto someone who needs a scanner with okay image quality. (After what I spent this Thanksgiving I could use that lil bit o' change.)

Anyway, it's a great scanner and having an adf is pretty convenient when you really need to scan multiple documents in a shortER amount of time.

45 seconds? Pfffft, I wait till the last 10-15 seconds before biting. Ebay is all about being cutthroat, man.

Anyway, I'm collecting the entire RE series, but only the GC versions, so I'm searching for good prices on them. I got RE3 and Code Veronica so far, but damn, RE2 prices are horrible. I don't think any of them go for less then $50.

By coincidence, the ADF I ordered for the 7400c at work arrived yesterday. It took a long freakin' time, but so does just about everything I screw up and order from Canada.

Heck, after shipping, I paid almost as much as I did for the scanner AND adf I purchased for personal use.

Oh yeah. The power adapter for my HP (hmm... lotta HP stuff. I just realized that.) Photosmart 850 digital camera. The damned thing INHALES batteries, so I thought it'd be worthwhile to at least have the OPTION of plugging it in sometimes.

I have had similar problems in the flipside to the point where i think long and hard before ordering anything from the US.

Things are getting stuck at the border forever (this is partially post-9/11, but it has gotten worse in the past 6-9 months) and I think vendors on both side of the border really nail buyers on shipping, when it really doesn't cost that much more.

I bought something from someone in Ottawa (300 miles away) which I got the next day! I bought something from someone in Rochester, NY - which is across Lake Ontario - on a clear day I can see it from my office window, and it took 15 days to arrive - after it was postmarked. WTF??

This is what we get for tightening our borders.

And I just won the Adventure Kermit action figure, with Kermit dressed like Indiana Jones. The Palisades Muppets figures are my new obsession.

Y'know, in the first three weeks of this year, I've blown about as much money on eBay as I did in all of last year (and most of last year's was a single big purchase). Part of the reason is the free time that I've been wasting on eBay, and part of it is a refined mentality on my hunt for a good deal. I spent entirely too much money, but I finally got Y100 Sonic Sessions Volume 1 and Volume 2.

Y100, one of the radio stations in Philly, has bands perform little acoustic concerts called "Sonic Sessions" when they come into town for shows. Every year they release a Sonic Session CD with about 16 or so songs from different sonic sessions. Volume 8 just came out last November. I started collecting with Volume 3. But they only make a certain amount each year, so once they're gone, they're gone. I've been trying to track down 1 and 2 for years to complete my collection, looking in cd stores in Philly, but to no avail. Now, however, my quest is complete. My wallet is a good bit lighter, but I'm a good bit happier. Check out this track list for volume 2, and tell me it isn't awesome.

Le drool. Seriously.

Thanks. I'm surprised I was able to find a hard case that was affordable, Treo-specific (as you see, it has room for the antenna, plugs, n whatnot), AND that has room for an sd card (that's what the webpage said, anyway).

We'll see if it turns out to be too-good-to-be-true.

A week or two ago I got the pattern I'm using for my wedding dress... What do those look like these days? I remember about 25+ years ago watching my mom using these wax-paper-like patterns to make outfits. I assume those are outdated, ... maybe not.

Also recently gotten a couple wonder woman TPB's, a cake pan, and a lot with MOTU: Teela's Secret and 3 She-Ra books.Very cool.

I wasn't sure if you actually dug comics or not. Congrats on your finds.

(Especially on something MotU-related.)

This was about the best Ebay week ever.

Started it off with winning an auction for 8 of the Blade Of The Immortal trades, With shipping it came to about 40$. Not bad.

Won a Ronin trade for a dollar. Not bad shipping either.

Got twenty or so of Ann Nocenti's DD run(to replace my beaten up issues) which was mostly the Typhoid Mary issues for about 15$ in shipping.

1-12 of Monarchy for 10$.

Then got some vinyl I wanted that probably no one has heard of: Ensign "direction of things to come" lp on grey vinyl, the Dead Wrong 7" and the Genuine lp(limited to 1000).

Pretty pricey week on Ebay but well worth it. Especially for the BOTI trades.
