This is kind of inspired by the recent webcast of most of the Download Festival from Donnington, England, we were talking about in the 2007 Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Update thread. Would you pay to watch a webcast from a concert? Not a whole lot, mind you. The quality isn't as good as TV, but it's still decent. Maybe $5 for a regular 3-hour concert or $10-15 for a multi-day festival.

I would. I really enjoyed watching Donnington. I would love to be able to watch my favorite bands perform shows from all around the world. Especially if they don't come to Cleveland. Iron Maiden was the first band announced as being webcast from Donnington and they allowed it because they weren't doing many shows this year.

I'm not saying bands should webcast every show they do, that would hurt ticket sales, but one or two a tour would be cool.

I just don't see the appeal of it. If I'm not gonna be there to experience it, then I might watch it on TV or rent (or buy) the DVD, but a webcast? I can't see any advantage to the format.

I'd rather be at the show myself watching it live than watch it on the interwebz. A concert is a personal experience. If I was forced to choose though I'd go with a live DVD of a certain band instead of a webcast.

I can't see myself paying to watch any band on the web.

I agree with what's being said. No matter how good the quality of a DVD or webcast or whatever is, it will never be the same as seeing a live performance.
