In recognition of his services to literature, Salman Rushdie has been awarded a knighthood.
I am thrilled that one of my personal heroes has received such a prestigious honor. Sir Salman is a master of the English language and a fearless defender of free speech, and this official recognition is the least he deserves. It's just too bad that political reasons make it unlikely he'll ever get a Nobel Prize.
In making this award, the British government has shown "what value [they] place on a maker of stories, and an arguer with the world."
