Hello, I am new here
I was wondering if anybody can tell me some anime or manga series that have God as a character (doesn't need to be a main character just part of the plot).
God does not need to be called as such to count. Any vastly powerful beings can count.

The ones that come to mind are Oh My Goddess and The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. Though the last one is a bit wierd.
The manga's Angel Sanctuary and Wish have God in them too.

In the case of Angel Sanctuary though "God" turns out to be this thing...

Maybe in Hikaru no Go...very ancilliary...
A higher power chooses to keep Sai's presence on Earth, and decides when it's time for him to leave
Does that count?

Well there's God with the big G and there's gods with the lower case g. In Japanese I believe it's 'Kami-sama' (Lord God) and kami (god).
Realize that there are hundreds of gods or spirits or kami in traditional Japanese religion, Shinto. I remember this from a couple of classes I took as well as various books. I even sat in on a friend's Japanese mythology class and head about it in relation to Buddhism coming to Japan and its conflicts with the native Shinto religion. They came to blend the Bodhisattvas and Buddhas of Buddhism, which are almost like enlightened saints in Christianity, had to find room to co exist with the kami.
Anyway, that's the native religion of Japan you'll see in many anime. Then you will see weird conceptions of the Christian God and saints in anime.
I think Chrono Crusade and it's wonderfully ludicrous portrayal of Mary Magdalene and an order of nuns named after her is one prime example.
Of course The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi has got to have one of the most WHAT THE *(&$#?! portrayals of God/god ever.
And then there's Raptor Jesus (http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/images/0/03/Raportorjesus.jpg). Don't ask.

Tezuka Osamu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osamu_Tezuka) has many works related to GOD, and the concept of deities.
Check out his work: Phoenix and The Buddha.
Many of his other works are mythological in nature.
And last but not least... if you want direct references to God, then look up his Anime series project called, "In the Beginning: The Bible Stories." Which was commissioned by none-other than the Vatican itself. Osamu died before he could finish the project.

No, Japanese Kami don't count as God for my purposes.
Thanks for the response

IIRC, a very odd version of God appears in Toriyama's Dr. Slump, as Gat-chan's creator, and even tried to destroy the world.

In Magic Knight Rayearth, "God" is Mokano, a being that has cerated several realms/universes, including Earth.
Oh My Goddess! has a good showing of God.

I am only listing the titles i can think of, the God/god reference differs in each.
Lain, Steel Angel Kurumi, Haibane Renmei, Gravion, Karas, Evangelion, Samurai Shamploo
Gantz - I would say the big black ball might count

Eh. Gantz is somewhat more of a god or powerful being, not ultimately powerful being.
Lain? Did you just bring up Serial Experiments Lain? BWAAAAAAAAAAAA!! -falls on floor twitching from crazy philosophical contemplation of a weird digital form of gnosticism-

Although DBZ uses the Japanese conceptions of gods more than the Christian one, and I thought we said that didn't count for this thread.
