VENICE (Reuters) - A whirlwind hit Venice on Friday, injuring about 25 people and forcing the cancellation of a festival headlined by rock band Pearl Jam was to have played, police and fire services said.
The whirlwind hit late in the afternoon, bringing down sound towers and girders on the stage for the Heineken Jammin' Festival as well as trees in the surrounding park. Several vehicles were overturned by the strong winds.
The damage forced the cancellation of the festival, organizer Roberto De Luca told local media.
The park where the concert was to have been held was on the mainland part of the city and there were no reports of damage in the city's historic centre in the lagoon.
Venice Mayor Massimo Cacciari said 19 people had been taken to hospitals but only one suffered serious fractures, news agency ANSA reported.
Traffic on the bridge that connects the lagoon city to the mainland was temporarily disrupted by debris.
The Friday night concert was Pearl Jam's only Italian appearance on their current tour.
The band sold over 9 million copies of their debut album "Ten" and their track "Man of the Hour" was on the soundtrack for Tim Burton's film "Big Fish."
There's that... and then there's the fact that they SUCK!

Eh, what can ya do? Argue until the veins in your forhead explode,or just say fuck it? I like to sweep the bullshit to the curb as often as possible. I have trashbags full of bullshit to deal with on a daily basis, I don't need any more.

My point is THEY SUCK! BOO YAA!You really should've gone for that career in right-wing politics.
The band sold over 9 million copies of their debut album "Ten" and their track "Man of the Hour" was on the soundtrack for Tim Burton's film "Big Fish."
What i don't get is, why did they mention that one of their songs was in a tim burton movie?
"Over a decade ago they sold a lot of albums, and about 6 years ago one of their songs was used in a movie by a guy who took a break from doing shitty remakes"
Was it because pearl jam has done some crappy covers?
I can't find the connection!!!

Oh, I get it.
Because whirlwinds blow, and since the original poster doesn't like Pearl Jam he uses the word blow in the popular vernacular meaning bad (not bad meaning good, but bad meaning bad). Possibly this is also a reference to fellatio. Or cocaine.

Just saying they suck will get you roasted on the boards. I am of the opinion though that they are not as good as everyone crows they are. Has Pearl Jam really done much in the last 5 years or so, other than make political statements? Granted they have a large fan base, but I haven't heard anything out of them for awhile that made me want to hear them again.
Pearl Jam makes great songs. I own most of their albums. Pearl Jam also makes some real stinkers. I'm not a diehard so I can't name songs off the top of my head, but there's some real filler crap on some of those albums.
I can never figure Vedder out. When PJ first came onto the scene, I thought what a great band with a great vocalist. So why does Vedder have the Dave Grohl syndrome (a singer with a good voice who insists on screaming during songs but teases you with just enough intelligible vocals). Isn't it Vitalogy that basically all of the songs are Vedder screaming? If not Vitalogy, it's one of the albums that I own. I'm a hard rock fan so there's more than enough hard rock songs that I like with singers screaming. But song after song after song gets tiresome and tends to point to a lack of talent, or in Eddie's case an abuse of talent.
One thing that I do appreciate about Pearl Jam, and other rock bands should take note, is their ever-changing setlists from concert to concert. If I were a big fan, I would have been snapping up all of those live releases I saw a few years ago.

Oh, i thought it was from the article, and not the poster.
I don't care what he thinks of pearl jam, i haven't much liked anything they did since Ten, and Alice in Chains did the whole thing better.

Vitalogy only has one real screamer and that's 'Spin the Black Circle'. It's got some really nice ballads on it too.

I was going to say I think the original poster meant fellatio as "pearl jam" is a reference to semen, however I reconsidered after realizing the original poster was probably unaware of this fact.

...We talk about Pearl Jam here?
Anyways, they're the only grunge/alternative/whatever band that holds my attention, so I guess that makes them my favorite of the genre. They have a distinct sound, strong musicianship, and good rhythm, so I really have no complaints.

IIRC they won a grammy for it... And I considered it to be their worst song.

I have Ten, Pearl Jam, Yield, Vitalogy, and Binaural. It's definitely not Ten, and it sounds like it's not Vitalogy. So it must be one of the other three.
It's not like all of the songs have to be Alive and Evenflow. I respect versatility and experimentation, but I just remember one of those albums being an Excedrin moment.

I don't recall either Eddie Vedder or Dave Grohl screaming all that much.

Really? Eddie wails all the time. Especially live.
Dave does too, but not as much or as well.

I was going to say grohl is a more effective screamer.
The yelling on monkey wrench alone outshines anything veddar screamed, and the older veddar gets, the pansier he sounds.
Also, you can understand him when he screams.
Oh, i just got done listening to a lot of Foo fighters, btw...so....take that as an explantion for my Dave defending.

Hmm.
If I owed the dudes from Pearl Jam for some cocaine and didn't have the money and was forced to pay with... well, you see where I'm going with this...
I'D probably be pissed off enough to go 'round and slag them on message boards.

Pearl Jam is a decent band, but they will lull you to sleep if you listen to too many of their songs. After a while it's like you're listening to the same song with slight modifications, kind of like Boston in that respect.
