Hey all,

I've recently gotten back into comic book collecting (it's been about 15 years), and there seem to be a fair amount of "dealer incentive" variants these days. Are these things worth the money? My local comic shop sells these at "current market value". For instance, they have the 1:25 World War Hulk #1 for $19.99.

Do these things generally increase in value? Or do they pretty much stay at the current selling price...or do they even sometimes go down in value?

I would pretty much only be buying these as an investment...if it's even worth it for that.

Thanks!

They tend to have short-term investment value. If you can get one and flip it quickly for more, that's decent. But in a few months, people will probably care less about it and the price will settle; if you check out eBay, you can find plenty of variant covers for around $10, when they were probably going for $20-30 when they originally came out.

There are probably exceptions for the super-rare ones (ie. 1/100)

As a general rule, hardly any comics printed nowadays have much long-term value.

I've never really been a fan of these "special Varients" that get sold. I saw one at a shop and its $20 bucks. I mean really.....is that special JSA varient worth it ? Beyond the cover and all...I doubt it is for me.

I really wish they'd sell comics at regular prices with these varients. Be fun and you can pick which cover you'd like best.
