My problem with Cyclops is the way he treats his women. Except Emma, who apparently can walk all over him.

That said, I love the fact that Cyclops is there and is like that. That kind of character is important to have. So I dislike Cyke as a person, but dig the character.

This happens everytime we speak portuguese. LOL.

I blame it on Marvel! Bobby spoke a lot of spanish. DC did a better job with Fire.
They both are named da Costa, must have been a popular surname in the 80's in Brazil. :p

Vic you aren't Victor da Costa, are you???

I know! Bia is so much better at being brazilian than Berto.

LOL, no. Da Costa isn't even a popular surname here. It must be an eighties thing indeed.

Lots of misconceptions about how Cyke treats his women. Like he cheated on Maddy w/ Jean.

But as I said, I like him because of his flaws. I like him because he has relationship problems. I like him because he doesn't know how to deal with his emotions (usually). I dislike him as a "person" but I think he's a good and complex character.

And yeah, I do believe he was awful to Maddie, but this will always be a personal opinion thing.

If I had to rank the O5, which I will proceed to do because I have nothing better to do, it would be:

1.iceman
2.Jean Grey
3.Beast
4.Cyclops
5.Angel

Iceman, Jean and Beast I like and it varies which I like more..

Cyclops usually bores me until someone gives him a scene like " I want this thing off my lawn". Then I'm all over him

Angel always bores me. He's really good at doing that. Maybe that's his mutant power.

Sometimes I feel like I'm more excited about the X-Stuff than anyone else and then I say to me STFU, Victor.

Like Whitmore said yesterday, I'm really reading the X-stuff on auto-pilot these days.

I still really like Astonishing X-Men, New X-Men is better than average and so is X-Factor (even though I'm kinda getting bored with some of the plots in that last one).

Other than that, I'm bored. I dropped X-Men: First Class, X-23, Wolverine, Wolverine: Origins, New Excalibur, Exiles, ultimate X-Men, and Cable and Deadpool all within the last 4-5 months. And if my OCD would allow it I'd probably drop X-Men and Uncanny X-Men (it took me some soul searching to drop some of the older ones I mentioned above).

Neither Carey or Brubaker is doing anything for me, and I'm really not all that excited about New X-Men or X-Factor either (even though I do usually enjoy those 2 on some level). Astonishing is the only one that jumps to the top of my stack any given week.

In fact, most of the superhero stuff I buy in monthlies just isn't doing it for me anymore and I foresee future dropped titles soon enough.

I'm enjoying The Spirit, All Star Superman, and JSA from DC. Astonishing X-Men from Marvel (I haven't even enjoyed Whedon's Runaways all that much). And Buffy the Vampire Slayer from Dark Horse.

That's all the monthlies I'm buying that I really like.

In TPB, I buy a lot of the stuff I'm really really enjoying: Ex Machina, Fables, The Goon, The Walking Dead, Invincible, Y - The Last Man, etc.

And as my monthly pull list gets smaller and smaller, I've been picking up and sampling more and more indie stuff and getting my comic fix from there.

OK, I've ranted too long now and gotten off the original point that I'm not liking the vast majority of x-stuff. :)

Well it's suppose to be a family movie. I mean I know it's be super bad ass cool to see the Human Torch set someone on fire and for the Thing to crush little kids in a school bus but the FF have always been the "First Family" so to speak.

Well, there are much better family movies out there, this was trying to be Shrek, where they would try to throw some second meaning stuff, but it wasn't that funny, and the plot wasn't that good either. Also, it was just soooo different from the comics. Idk, IMO I think it was pretty dang bad! I think catwoman was a better movie.

The more I think about it, the more I like that Marvel won't be cancelling Astonishing X-Men after Whedon and Cassady are done.

At first I was pissed because I believed the 24 issues of Whedon and Cassaday's Astonishing X-Men should stand on their own and numbering shouldn't just contine for the sake of an extra book.

I like the idea (and I hope this is Marvel's intention) of Astonishing X-Men existing as this title that top creators can come on and write their own unmedled-with, fuck-the-crossovers, single voiced X-Men graphc novel told within monthly or bi-monthly chapters (as Whedon and Cassady have done).

Now if it just becomes the 3rd X-Men book I'll be pissed, but otherwise I'll be OK with it.

Unless Jeph Loeb writes it.

I just finished reading Eddie Campbell's new graphic novel The Black Diamond Detective Agency. Its about a group of detetctives investigating a train attack in 1899.

I checked it out from my bookstore. Can't say I recommend it. The mystery's muddled and the art (surprisingly) isn't very captivating. Its good art, it just doesn't tell its story well. IMO.

I also checked out Brubaker's first Criminal tpb. So I'll read that later.

So my brother's school's real reasons for not letting him come back next year have come out. Apparently, they think he's a time bomb waiting to blow, and either hurt himself (popular theory) or someone else (and oh, can I just say how lovely it is to have some pompous fuck tell you your kid brother is a columbine waiting to happen).

And so, in their infinite wisdom, they decided that the academic strain of their institution puts him under too much stress. So its in everyone's best interests for him to be far far away. Just.....argh.

I'm really just speechless about all this. My kid brother had a GPA of 3.8 before this year. He's a fucking dumbass kid who made some stupid mistakes just like half the rest of American youth. His whole freaking class is made up of potheads. He loaded up on AP courses this year, got mixed up with some drugs, and then, while being diagnosed as clinically depressed, made a conscious effort to get OFF the drugs, and oh how bizarre, his grades suffered in the process. He's never been in a fight, its not like he's a 'boiling pot of resentment' due to not having friends or being made fun of....he's a popular kid whose always had friends, just didnt feel like hanging out with them, because oh yeah, clinically depressed people arent known for being proactive! And everyone tells him over and over again that he has to start shaping up and put his life in order, and shocker of all shockers...he actually did it and pulled himself together!

While three of his classmates are in fucking REHAB right now, he kicked his drug habit by himself, hasn't touched anything in three months, and pulled every single one of his grades up from an F to a C in his last quarter. He went and got himself a part time job doing something with finances that I dont even know how to do, and he does it so well he just got a two dollar raise, making ten bucks an hour! He DID everything he was supposed to do! And their response to him, oh yeah, actually straightening out is hey, even though you've never gone to a public school in your life, have had the same friends for the past five years, and managed to put your life back together and bring all your grades back from the brink of failure, and even though all your credits needed to graduate are almost complete and you dont even have to TAKE any academically strenuous courses next year, and even though at this late stage the only school you can possibly still get into for next year is the crappy ass ghetto school in your public district, we think its in your best interests to go somewhere else for your senior year.

And they can say that with a straight face, apparently.

My dad just resigned as the school's football coach tonight. The headmaster of the school, who knows each and every member of my family personally, and has since my older sister first started at that school 17 years ago, won't return a single phone call, respond to a single letter, or see a single person about this matter.

*Censored*

And what really gets me furious is just......my brother doesn't understand that this is really happening. He's absolutely convinced that this is all a mistake we'll straighten out and he'll be back graduating with his friends next year. As far as he's concerned, he did everything he was supposed to do to get his life back on track, and he sees no reason to believe that everyone else isn't going to uphold their end of the bargain. But no, instead, THIS is his reward for taking responsibility for himself and actually putting in the extra effort. Bravo people. Way to encourage that.

All I can say is, its a DAMN good thing there's a whole country between me and that school. My brother's the most harmless person I've ever known. Even when depressed he wasn't angry, or prone to violence or even brooding. He just slept a lot and missed classes because he was too tired to go to them. Hell I'M the sibling with the aggression issues. And I need to NEVER meet the fucking piece of shit scumbag teacher who called my little brother a 'Columbine waiting to happen', because I honestly do not believe I could control the need to punch his fucking face in.

*Is furious some more*

Kalen, that seriously sucks.

I can't believe that they're rewarding your brother's turn of tables by having him expelled. Actually, I do believe, since my school was kinda like that. They just can't stand someone that *could* possible stain their reputations. It's a coward thing to do, to just turn their backs, but they do it anyway.

Aw, dude, feel better. Things have a way of resolving themselves with time. Lame thing to say, but I do believe that. I hope your brother gets back on track as soon as possible with the school-thing.

Also, I missed you.

Thanks dude. Just been dealing with this shit all week and it hasn't left me in a very comicbook-celebratory mood. I really do need to just go read some until the urge to punch walls subsides, as it'll probably be easier on my knuckles. I'm sure I'll be all "well fuck it, who needs their damn school anyways" in a day, but after just hearing that columbine comparison I just needed to vent for an hour or two. Ugh.

The New Warriors are dead…Long Live The New Warriors! In the wake of Civil War, a new team of New Warriors have formed—fighting crime and the Super Human Registration act—led by the enigmatic Night Thrasher. In the first issue of this acclaimed series by writer Kevin Grevioux and penciller Paco Medina, Night Thrasher began assembling a team of de-powered mutants—including Beak and Wind Dancer—to complete his mission. Just what is his endgame? Wasn’t he presumed dead? And how will Iron Man respond to this band of young upstarts? If those answers weren’t enough, New Warriors #2 will feature the return of wildly popular character and the shocking secret identity of one New Warrior!

I remember watching the Season 1 finale.

The part where MasterMold and the Sentinels are being giant jerks and the X-men fly off to go save the humans while Magneto watches down below at the mansion.

I loved it when Magneto said:

Or something like that. I can't remember.

The battle after that scene was awesome. I wish Singer and Ratner watched the show and how they could have picked up on how the X-men fight as a team.

I've read Whiteout (not that great), all of Madman, Cooke's Spirit (and a bit of Eisner's), all of Sandman, half of Lucifer, all of Bone, all of Hellboy (at least whats been put in trade), all of Ellis' Stormwatch, most of the ABC line (Top 10 is EXCELLENT!) and 13 of 16 Cerebus trades (haven't had the chance or urge to pick up the last 3 yet).

Brubaker's Criminal was good. Very good actually. Which surprised me because everything else I've read of his has been mediocre.

It reminded me of Bendis' crime comics. Which just made me wish Bendis would go back to crime comics. Why is it when indie guys are really good at their non-superhero books, someone (themselves or publishers) feels the need to start plugging them into superhero books?

Bendis' crime books are far better than anything superhero-related I've ever read of his. Can't speak to much for Brubaker since I've not read his acclaimed DD stuff.

Yeah, its a total cheese movie, but I enjoyed it. There was hardly enough Monet though- she had the least development. Everything was about Skin, who I could have done without.

The Buff and Refrax stuff was cute though.

I gotta say, the dream stuff took up way too much of the movie- I feel like there wasn't enough focus on the Gen-Xers. And it sucked that there were bascially no special effects. Everyone on the team had super strength! Mondo, M, AND Buff! Jeeez, talk about overkill.

Meanwhile.... I just finished the Alpha Flight episode from TAS, and I kinda do like Wolverine. If he wasn't so overwhored as he is right now, he'd be alright.

Dude, unfair. Its not 'rabid to anyone who doesn't like it', its 'cant comprehend the point of nitpicking and insisting a character is dead despite the writers SAYING she's alive, just because we havent clearly 100% seen clearly that the character the writers intended to be her WAS in fact her.' Yeah, I've always been fairly defensive of my defense of the book, because unlike most people (or the most vocal majority at least), I enjoyed C&C's run from the start, despite the deaths. That was not a very popular opinion a year ago, and the frequency of the deaths was a pretty reasonable objection. So yeah, I get pretty defensive about the book when people go on about disliking it for reasons that aren't even that accurate anymore, or for little nitpicky things that don't even matter. Like, if a bunch of posters enjoy being silly about a couple background characters we were fond of and speculating on ways for them to come back....is it really necessary to come into that thread if your only contribution is to say, nope, sorry, that character is dead, because I never saw them alive and I dont care what the writers said?

Honestly, I don't see the defense of New X-Men on most posters' parts as any different from your defense of Uncanny, which you know I've agreed with you on more than one occasion. Just because you're on the other side of the fence on this one doesn't mean the similarities aren't there.

It was pretty damned fun man. It was definitely more chill than Chicago (as expected, that's one reason it's become so popular), though about 2/3 the size-of course that's not a problem though.

Spent the whole day shopping it up and B.S.ing with artists/writers. It was really fun.

My boy Ben got a pic with Rosario Dawson as well, so that was cool.

I ended up walking out of there spending $126 on $262 worth of stuff;

Essential X-Men 4-7
Complete Age of Apocolypse vols. 2-4
Mutant Massacre TPB
Inferno TPB
Fall of the Mutants TPB
X-Men: The End vol. 3 TPB (I have the single issues but wanted the trade to go with the other two trades I have)
Frank Cho's Women (softcover)

and some Blue Line Pro blue lead pencils for my drawinz. :D

That's fucking awesome on the TPB's. I've been looking for the Fall of the Mutants. Marvel stopped producing it so it's not easy to find. AoA Trades are great aren't they? I fuckin ggot all 3 for 75$. Didn't feel like buying #1.

I got Vol. 1 of AoA last year at WW Chicago for 50% off. Then I got volumes 2 and 4 for 50% off at heroes, had to settle for only 25% off on vol. 3 though cause I couldn't find a copy of it at one of the cheap vendors. So I paid $68 for all 4. :D

That's good. Sounds like a good relaxing weekend. I brought down my bottle of Walker Blue label for my dad and I to sip on while we fished at night. Good times. The cabin we were at is just awesome. It's this rustic looking thing, not a big house, compact, but the dock is just amazing. Hammocks, huge lay out areas. It's a great place. The guy who owns it is an older gentleman. His husband died a while back of cancer and they were family of some close friends of ours and when they found out about my dad Chuck (owner) said that when Gary (passed away spouse) was sick this was the place that would relax him. So it wa a good time.

Has their concept changed since they first appeared in Runaways?

Nope. Pretty much the same. But without the Runaways, now they're just doing it to each other. That mixed with falling off the wagon and being hypocritical. It's an ok book, but each issue has been a step down.

I am toying with the idea of taking a CBR-sabbatical and seeing if I like comics:

More
Less or
The Same

afterwards. What are your reasons Twinky?

I know.

Given that Runaways itself isn't exactly a top-seller it's not surprising that this isn't printed in huge quantities.
I miss BK Vaughan. Whedon's Runaways sucks hard core.:(

I am convinced there are posters on here who have never enjoyed a single issue they've ever bought.
I know! I totally agree! Sometimes I look at how posters bitch and bitch and then bitch some more and I wonder why they even bother buying comics in the first place. I generally love reading everything I collect month in and month out. That's the way it SHOULD be!
