I think the plan is for Ultimates Vol. 3 to start right after that with Joe Mad doing the art, and if they'd just get a more dynamic penciler for Ultimate X-men I think that book would be okay actually. Kirkman is getting better IMO after a pretty lackluster first year and a half.

As for Ultimate Spidey and Ultimate FF, I'd say they're in pretty good hands right now. Nothing spectacular about them, but they're solid reads at this point IMO.

Yeah, I can see that point and actually kind of felt the same way until recently. Now I think I'm getting a bit of the old "event fatigue" and so the Ultimate line is sounding more and more appetizing to me since it kind of exists in it's own tight continuity.

I'm reading the World War Hulk mini, but have decided to skip pretty much all of the tie-ins except for the X-men one, and I also just had to add X-Factor and New X-men to my pull list because of Endangered Species and Messiah Complex. And on top of that, we already know there's going to be another mega event next summer involving the Avengers books and the Skrulls.

It's not really the money issue that bothers me about it, as I don't really spend nearly as much as I could on comics, but rather it's just kind of distracting IMO. It seems like the books all kind of get side-tracked from just telling their own stories to do these sorts of things, and after every single one there are always major changes and "things will never be the same again."

So, to me, the Ultimate line is looking kind of refreshing because it's insulated from all of that. In fact, I'm probably going to drop 616 FF for Ultimate FF and New Thunderbolts for Ultimate Spidey, since those are the two Ultimate books that I haven't been picking up.

I think they're trying to change to entire universe, give us years of new stories and new purposes for the characters and if HoM, CW, WWH, Messiah CompleX are all ways to do it, great. It's a good way to inact quick change w/o doing it the "Claremont Way".

Yeah, I still have to wonder what they're trying so hard to build towards. To me it seems like they're just trying to make the regular Marvel U more Ultimate like (fewer mutants, superhumans must work for the government, Spider-man unfettered by marriage, etc.), but at this point I don't think Marvel would do something as rash as 'Ultimatize' their whole universe (as used to be the hot rumor back when the Ultimate line was still more popular than the 616).

Regardless, I hope that after WWH, Messiah Complex and this big Skrull event that they will give it a rest for awhile. But I may be in the minority on that one, in which case at least I'll have the self-contained Ultimate Universe to catch a break from it all.

That shows so much disrespect for the creators of the characters. When I read that I was so shocked. I mean you can refuse to use them in stories that you are writing if a character doesn't appeal to you. But refusing to draw them even on a cover? who the hell does he think he is? I also read a thing in Wizard where they asked him what he thought of a lot of recent events (at the time): Identity Crisis, Winter Soldier, Jason Todd. And his answers were like one almighty god would give. He thinks he's some sort of comic book god apparently.
