View Full Version : Avatar Game 6/13 to 6/19

Matt Algren

I had a whole first post written out, and decided right before I hit the button that it was too narrow a topic. So instead, we're playing with The Simpsons. They've been around for, what, 18 years now? (Wait, that means that people who were born during their first season can vote. That makes me old.) There's plenty of material. There's even some new material making the rounds that started right here at CBR. (hint hint Michael Pullmann*.)

I'll pick mine in awhile after some other people have called some dibs.

A few rules:

1) This is a game. No getting your feelings hurt. No fighting. No lobbying for votes. There is no cash prize at the end.

2) The person who wins the previous game picks a theme. Any poster who wants to enter makes an avatar that fits the theme. Come Tuesday of the following week, anyone (whether they had an avatar entered or not) can vote on whose is the “best”. The only prize is that the winner gets to pick the next contest.

3) If you suggest avatars to others, prepare to be mocked.

*I'm coming dangerously close to breaking rule #3 and I don't care.

Yay! I was just telling someone that I hoped the next category was going to be The Simpsons because I already had my avatar picked out. It's not going to be a winner, but it certainly makes me smile.

So folks, here's true genius immortalized in cartoony goodness:

Favorite Itchy and Scratchy ever:

Porch Pals
Scratchy: "Lemonade?"
Itchy: "Please."
Scratchy: "I made it just for you."
Itchy: "You are my best friend. Mmm. This really hits the spot."
Scratchy: "Doesn't it though?"
Itchy: "You make really good lemonade, Scratchy."
Scratchy: "Thank you, Itchy."

coke&comics gets my vote for two reasons:
1. Stan Lee is just a great character.
2. It's amazing how recognizable Lee is "Simpsonized". The basic Groening body with the moustache, hair and crazy "Match Game 75" era glasses looks more Lee than Lee.

So I vote for JerrBear.

Changed my mind. Michael Pullmannn gets it, mostly for the tag line "Whom do you love." He also would've gotten it for "The Bart, The."

French Waiter: "Nee-Vah!"
Freddy Quimby: "Say Chowdaaahh"

Setting: Lenny's house; guys at the poker table. Try to picture the mood.

Homer:I'll take three. D'oh! D'oh! D'oh! I mean...woo hoo.
Moe : I'm in. Let's see your cards.
Homer: Oh, I was bluffing.
Moe : Ha ha. Come to papa -- wait a minute! You have a straight flush, Homer! You do this every time, you -- oh, you -- oh! Gah! I'm choking on my own rage here.
Carl : Hey, don't yell at Homer. Just 'cause he's a little slow...
Homer's Brain: Something was said...not good. What was it?..."Don't yell at Homer!" No, that's OK. What was it? ...Slow! They called you slow!
Homer: (yelling) How dare you call me that! I... huh?

At this point we see it is late at night and nobdoy else is around. Lenny walks into kitchen in nightgown. Hours have passed.

Lenny: Hey, Homer, you still here? Boy, you _are_ slow.
Homer's Brain: Something said...not good.

I knew that too. Don't know how it got backwards in my head. Must have been mad at Applebee's recently.

They must not like Arby's on the Simpsons. Not the only time they've ribbed on them.

Homer in New York

Homer: What do you have to drink?!?
Street Vendor: I have Mountain Dew or crab juice.
Homer: Eeeeewww....

Also from the same episode:
Street Vendor: KALKALEV! You take KALKALEV!

Flanders: Since the police can't seem to get off their duff-a-roonies to do something about this burglar-ino, I propose we start out own neighborhood watch (pause) aroony! (everyone cheers) Now, who should lead the group?
Man: You!
Everyone: (cheering again) Flanders! Flanders! Flanders!
Flanders: Well, I don't have much experience, but I'd be--
Moe: Someone else then!
Everyone: (more cheers) Yyyaaayyy! Someone else! Someone else! Someone else!
Homer: I'm someone else!
Lenny: (gasp) He's right!
Homer: We don't need a thinker, we need a doer! Someone who'll act without first considering the consequences!

Tony Bang gets my vote, for picking one of my all-time favorite villains.

(Grimes goes crazy after Homer wins the power plant design contest meant for children.)
Grimes: Oh, I, I can't stand it any longer. This whole plant is insane. Insane, I tell you! Daahh! Aaah!
(runs out of the auditorium, and into an equipment room)
Grimes: I can be lazy too! (takes his tie off, moons one of the technicians) Look at me, I am a worthless employee, just like Homer Simpson! Give me a promotion!
(Runs into the break room, grabs two donuts from the box and gobbles them down as if imitating Homer's eating habits)
Grimes: Ooh, I eat like a slob, but nobody minds!
(Grimes then runs to the bathroom to pretend to relieve himself)
Grimes: (yelling from inside) I'm peeing on the seat! Give me a raise!
(comes out and waves his hands in Homer's face; Homer looks puzzled)
Grimes: Now I'm returning to work without washing my hands. But it doesn't matter, because I'm Homer Simpson!
(Sits in Homer's chair at his work station and spins around like an idiot)
Grimes: I don't need to do my work, 'cause someone else will do it for me. 'D'oh!' 'D'oh!' 'D'oh!' (slaps forehead on each D'oh!)
Homer: (concerned) Hey, you okay, Grimey?
Grimes: I'm better than okay. I'm Homer Simpson!
Homer: (chuckles) You wish.
(Burns walks into the room to see what the commotion is all about)
Grimes: Oh, hi, Mr. Burns. I'm the worst worker in the world. Time to go home to my mansion and eat my lobster.
(Grimes runs up to electrical wires and examines a sign)
Grimes: What's this? (reads sign) 'Extremely High Voltage.' Well, I don't need safety gloves, because I'm Homer Simp...
