State of Origin beer run to flood-affected pub
Emergency crews restocking flood affected properties in the Hunter Valley have made a special beer delivery to an isolated pub ahead of tonight's rugby league State of Origin game.
Floodwaters are receding but hundreds of people are still isolated around the township of Hinton.
SES Spokesman Phil Campbell says they are being re-supplied, and today there was a special beer run.
"When we had some room in the boat we could take a few kegs of beer across to the Hinton pub, because of course State of Origin is on tonight, and it's important that we let communities function as normally as possible."
Of course, New South Wales is playing the Maroons at Olympic Stadium so they'll need something to drown their sorrows.

Good to see they've got their priorities right.

Now why can't my government do something that sensible during floods?

It's a cultural thing.
Over here, we don't even have culture in our yoghurt.

Flying Beer Doctors to the rescue?
after the Loma Prieta earthquake knocked pretty much evrything here to hell and back I was in the line to enter the only store with a generator to pick up supplies for the Park. The three items completely sold out, as they sold out: beer, bread, milk. The harder liquor was going pretty fast by the time I got in. When a beer truck made it up the canyon you could practically hear the cheers five miles away. It's universal, the beer must come through.

We don't actually have Police or Ambulance over here it's just the "Beer Brigade." They solve any problem earthquake, volcano, domestic disturbance. Definitely a cultural thing.

During the civil war in the Congo, the trucks from Suth African Breweries were the only vehicles that coudl travel safely through the whole country.
All the rebel groups gave them safe passage, any group that broke the rule was attacked by all the others.
Roads were maintained to at least a minimum standard in some areas just so the beer trucks could get through.

There's been some rain across most of eastern Australia and quite a lot in the Hunter.
Most of the country is still in drought though. In Brisbane the rai nadded about two weeks worth of supply to the main dams, which still means we'll run out some time in the next year or so unless we get more rain.

In South-East Queensland, we're in a drought.
In New South Wales, it's flooding.
In Northern Queensland, it was bucketing down only recently.
