In the vein of some of the threads I've seen here, I was just curious what people's thoughts were, if any, on the following lesser known indie artists:

1) Tilly and the Wall

2) Wolf Parade

3) Loney, Dear

4) The Shaky Hands

5) Pela

6) Sunset Rubdown

7) Destroyer

That is all.

Or if anyone wants to talk about music somewhat similar to those bands, feel free.

1) Tilly and the Wall
Anything that sounds kinda like Neutral Milk Hotel can't be that bad.

2) Wolf Parade
When will they put out a new album? Loved Apologies to the Queen Mary, but I'm wondering what they'll do for a follow up. Was it a one-time thing or something?

3) Loney, Dear
Quirky, kinda sounds like what would happen if Jens Lekman was in Belle & Sebastian.

4) The Shaky Hands
Not familiar.

5) Pela
Not too familiar, but they sound like The Pixies by way of a hip Brooklyn band, right? Sounds promising to me.

6) Sunset Rubdown
I prefer Wolf Parade, but Sunset Rubdown is pretty good.

7) Destroyer
I enjoy the other New Pornographers' solo projects just a bit more since they're more instantly gratifying, but Destroyer is still cool.

I'll add a few more bands into this:

8) !!! (aka chk chk chk)

9) The Pipettes

10) The Dismemberment Plan

11) The National

12) Ted Leo and the Pharmacists

13) Sufjan Stevens

14) Drive Like Jehu

15) The Hold Steady

1) I don't know if I'd say they sound like NMH, which I'm a fan of as well. I saw them open for Rilo Kiley acoustic when they covered "Hey Ya" a few years ago, and it was awesome. Their live shows are really energetic.

2) I don't know what their recording plans are. I mean, as mentioned with SR they have a number of side projects that take up their time too.

3) I only heard Loney, Dear a few days ago. I wanted to see them when they played in Brooklyn on Sunday but I work in PA during the week. Very quirky, yeah, but in a good way.

4) The Shaky Hands I also heard maybe a month ago or so. Their song "the summer's life" always puts me in a good mood and it makes a good summer anthem.

5) Pela opened for Rainer Maria's second to last show, along with Daylight's for the Birds, at the Bowery Ballroom. Really great set, and they're very personable guys to speak with after their sets. I haven't heard American Graffitti yet but I'm a fan of the song "Trouble with River Cities."

6) I've liked what I've heard but I don't know too much about SR.

7) Same with Destroyer; I don't own Rubies and I've only heard what was on their myspae, but I really enjoyed it. Bejar's tracks on New Pornographers albums are also really good, though not to say A.C. Newman's or Neko Case's aren't either.

8) !!! (aka chk chk chk / pow pow pow) I saw them at Sirenfest several years ago, and I have friends who swear by them but I never go too into them. I remember the song me and giuliani down by the schoolyard but I don't remember my reaction to it.

9) The Pipettes- Meant to see them on tour recently but, again, work got in the way. Big fan of "Judy".

10) The Dismemberment Plan - Don't know too well.

11) The National - I have a copy of one of their albums and I remember liking what I heard. I feel like I'm one of many who respect them but haven't really sat down and listened.

12) Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Huge fan. I've seen them play at least 3 or 4 times as well as Ted solo, and it's always amazing. I haven't heard the latest album yet but I intend to get it soon.

13) Sufjan Stevens - I only have the album Illinoise and have heard some other tracks, but I like his stuff a lot. "Decatur" and "Chicago" in particular. His christmas music is also a treat.

14) Drive Like Jehu - Heard of them, but never heard them.

15) The Hold Steady - Same as above.

--------- I'll throw out

16) Peter Bjorn and John

17) Be Your Own Pet

18) The Shout Out Louds

19) The Blow

20) The Futureheads

1) Tilly and the Wall
I like Bottoms Of Barrels well enough. Kinda crazy that they use tap dancing as an instrument.

2) Wolf Parade
Apologies to the Queen Mary is great. Particularly 'Shine A Light'
Looking forward to a new one.

3) Loney, Dear
I loved 'I Am John' but was kinda disappointed by Loney, Noir overall. Still, 'Saturday Waits' 'Hard Days 1.2.3.4' and 'Carrying A Stone' are good songs, it's just to me, nothing ever matched up to 'I Am John.'

4) The Shaky Hands
Never heard of them.

5) Pela
Another one I haven't heard.

6) Sunset Rubdown
Rubdown, like Handsome Furs are okay, I just think they were better as a whole Wolf Parade.

8) !!! (aka chk chk chk)
Never could get real into these guys, that said, I always liked the song 'Intensify'

9) The Pipettes
We Are The Pipettes is a fun listen to at first, and it's not something I'll switch off when it comes on my iPod, but The Pipettes are something I couldn't listen to all the time.

10) The Dismemberment Plan
I haven't listened to enough to give any sort of coherent opinion.

11) The National
The National, for me always takes a few good listens before it sinks in. I really like the Boxer right now.

12) Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
I'm still kicking myself that I missed Ted when he came through Tempe a few months ago.

13) Sufjan Stevens
I like most of the stuff Sufjan puts out, but he music was hard for me to get into initially.

14) Drive Like Jehu
Never heard of.

15) The Hold Steady
Another band I'm pissed I missed seeing when they came through. I love Boys and Girls In America

16) Peter Bjorn and John
Writer's Block is probably going to be one of my top records of 2007. There really isn't a bad song on the whole disc.

17) Be Your Own Pet
I only have two mp3s of these guys, but they kinda remind me of The Grates.

18) The Shout Out Louds
Howl Howl Gaff Gaff was a great record with songs like 'Very Loud' and 'The Comeback.' But if their new song 'Tonight I Have to Leave It' is any indication of what the new album sounds like, they're leaving the Howl sound behind and trying to ape The Cure.

19) The Blow
It kinda blows but I've never heard of them.

20) The Futureheads
Bloc Party Junior. That's probably not fair, but all I can think when I hear some Futureheads is that I'd rather listen to Silent Alarm

I'm not familiar with those bands, but I used to listen to Dismemberment Plan ( are they still together ? )

They disbanded a couple of years ago, though frontman Travis Morrison put out a solo album.

The Dismemberment Plan did reunite to play a benefit show for Callum Robbins, the son of Jawbox/Burning Airlines/Channels mastermind J. Robbins. Really tragic situation about his son--the kid has type 1 spinal muscular atrophy, which is usually fatal.
