View Full Version : I Love/Hate My Job!

I have to say it.

I love my job. It's flexible, it's fun, it pays OK, but the people are just fantastic. The funny part about it is it has nothing to do with my two degrees I am just about to receive.

But it makes my life happy. I set my own agenda, I work my tail off, and yes -- I get frustrated at times, but it's just so amazing overall that I feel very fortunate.

So you all know: I'm a property manager in Chicago.

How do you all feel about your jobs? What do you do? Why are you doing it? I want to know more about the YABSers. Outside of comics, what motivates?

I mean, my DREAM job is to help Gail write a Dazzler series at Marvel, but this job is still pretty sweet. ;)

I want to know about work, stress, fabulousness, and tears. Good stories, bad stories -- I want them all!

I write/edit offsite for my old company, so having flexible hours and working at home is cool. I get conferenced in for meetings, keep in touch with co-workers via IMs and phone calls, and continue my ongoing Office-like Tim/Pam (or Jim/Pam) relationship with one of my co-workers... though since she's on the other side of the country I need to get over it fast.

The big downside is that I'm paid as an independent contractor rather than an offiste employee which means a) no benefits whatsoever, b) no sick days or vacation time, and c) I get taxed like a mofo come tax season. Only way to help with problem c is writing off work-related expenses like a mofo.

So it's good... but could be a whole lot better. Need to find me a real job out here so I can just do offsite work part time.

EDIT:
My dream job is to be an obscure novelist.

I like my job, but some of the people make it very difficult sometimes. I started my venting about it on another thread (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=178070).

I work fulltime at a nursing home with sixty five residents.

It's hard work and you learn to take the bad with the good.
