I wonder if the fans here know that the new Rage Against the Machine site has a countdown clock, countin down to...something. It ends Aug. 24th and people are wondering wether it means a new album of new material , a live album from Cochella or a live new concert .

Heres the link.

Not to spoil anybody's fun.....

According to Stereogum, it's a countdown to a show. The site is owned by the promoters for the show (IIRC) and you can easily see what it's counting down to by setting your PC's clock forward to the 11th of June.

Kind of a letdown actually, but oh well.

Aw, and I was hoping it was counting down to the inevitable pissy breakup.

Bah, if its counting down to a show thats lame. They are a band that broke up not too long ago after an album most people didn't dig that much.
I predict no matter what the album sounds like though, Rolling Stone will give it a perfect score. the review will read as follows.
1. Paragraph about how important they are, and how this is a much bigger deal then the Pixies getting back together, and thats why they devoted a whole page to the review.
2. Paragraph on how they don't like Bush and or the war.
3. Paragraph on how the band doesn't like Bush or the war.
4. Paragraph on how they like this album because it doesn't like Bush and the war.
5. Some mention about morello being a genious because his guitar makes funny noises.
6. They will now call Zack a wordsmith, and invoke public enemy.
7. Possibly insult Velvet Revolver here, they won't mention no one paid attention to rocha during the time, they will just mention that Velvet Revolver wasn't good. They will also mention public enemy again.
8. Say how these guys will be the next....hmmm...they might say U2, i haven't decided which band they will pick. Possibly the Beatles, and Zach will be compared to lennon.

Renegades kicked a lot of ass. Some of the best covers recorded. An underrated record.

Renegades was great, but it donest touch their debute or Battle of LA. Its kind of a let down that they havent released any plans for a new album, I just hope it doesnt turn out like Evil Empire, what a load of shite.

RATM arent public enemy, they are RATM. I don't know if the comparasons meant to be cute or serious, but I guess I can kind of see it. That doesnt mean they are public enemy though. If I was going to to compare them to anyone it'd be the prodigy with a little "did for hip hop what the prodigy did for electronica" tag on

:)

Taking Alex's post as a whole I think he was commenting on the predictability of Rolling Stone Magazine's review style rather than similarities between RATM or PE. (Even though comparisons between ANY political hip-hop band and Public Enemy tend to be pretty much inevitable now.)

Out of curiosity what did Prodigy (whom I am not greatly familiar with) do for electronica?

Took the sound of electronica on rock instuments to the masses?

Okay. I simply wasn't very familiar with the band or their work.

It'll be kind of weird if they talk about Velvet Revolver, considering those guys were in Audioslave, not Velvet Revolver....

(Though I can understand the confusion.)
