of Marvel Comics?
Let's say by the time you wake up in the morning and surfing the web
on marvel.com, when you see that the powers that be of marvel have
made Reggie editor-in-chief of marvel for the entire year(while JoeyQ
is off somewhere in the bahamas or something).
Anyway, how would you guys and gals react to this?
Would Reggie make thing at marvel better...or worse?
Will the internet break in two over this?
Would Reggie H. still be the writer of the current Black Panther series?
And most importantly, how would marvel do during Huldin's slint as
EiC during this year after 2007?
So then, any comments?

Wow.
This is going to get real stupid real quickly. However I will add my two cents.
The job of a editor is very different from a writer, so taking that into account I don't see how anyone could say with a straight face that he would be necessarily bad. Who knows how he would do but he has BIG ideas no one can deny and he happens to be President of Entertainment for a BILLION Dollar company. Before the haters start with the BET is a disgrace angle, since Hudlin has taken over BET he has over seen 4 of the programs largest viewed shows as well as 2 of the top viewed cable programing last year. So lets see, a company of lets say 300k readers who will be there month to month regardless or a cable program that is the standard for a whole culture of people.
So proceed then with loud uninformed inflammatory ill-informed comments.

The internet would not snap in two.
One of two things would happen
A: The Internet would be more united than ever before in their sheer condemnation
B: The Internet would spontaneously explode.

Some writers make better editors and vice versa. Take Mark Waid ....he started out as an editor at DC but soon realized he didn't like it and became the awesome writer he is today. Could Hudlin be a better Editor than Writer ? Who knows.
The one thing working against Hudlin is that you have to be open to stories at times. If Writer A came in and had a story that was so beyond awesome for Black Panther and it would likely be one where fans would bow down and proclaim it the greatest thing since Preist , but it strips some things he did as a writer away.....would he do it ?
Because its a give or take. When Paul Levitz left the LSH after years of writing he handed the series to Kurt Griffen . He didn't agree with Griffen's ideas at times but he had a position of editor at DC and he allowed it to happen.
Hudlin would also have to be a more open people person. Which means he'd have to coax and hire guys. No one says this about Joe Quesada but you always see Joe with his talents ...because he's a comic book guy. A guy who knows the business so well he's close to it. Hudlin is just a passerby and will likely leave soon as BP bounces to cancellation or he's removed....I doubt I can see him at Comic Conventions smoozing the talent and being EIC as Quesada.
If anyone deserves to follow Quesada I'd promote Tom Brevoort The guy has worked there for years as Editor on nearly all the books and he's a pro. Hell he tried to make sense of Civil War here best he could in answering questions.

It would pretty much see DC and the internet laughing their asses off. Because of all the qualified people at Marvel your handing it to a guy who beyond House Party and 1 monthly writing assignment hasn't done much as a Brevoort or Alonso.
Hell if their gonna give the job to someone let it be Axel Alonso who also has lured talents to Marvel at times. I can see Alonso as EIC since he actually has a job as editor over a line of books.
Anyway, how would you guys and gals react to this?
Most likely laughter. I'd be thinking man if DC ever wanted to beat Marvel , then Marvel made it pretty easy now. ;)
Would Reggie make thing at marvel better...or worse?
No experince in the job , has had his storylines critized for continuty errors. Yeah this is like having a recovering alcoholic work at a brewery.
Will the internet break in two over this?
No because JQ isn't so beloved. Odds are many will just shake their heads and no Marvel's f-cked. Its a hard enough job following Quesada. But have someone with no experince and all at it and its worse. He would DeFalco Marvel . (Since Tom DeFalco followed Jim Shooter's great run at Marvel and proceeded to dive the company into sh-t.)
Would Reggie H. still be the writer of the current Black Panther series?
Odds are yes. Because look at DeFalco who gave himself runs on Thor and Fantastic Four over hiring better writers for said books as they tanked under his pen. Hudlin would likely name himself writer on a lotta things and tank them since he has a conflict of interest and the editor over the book can't be honest and go "Reggie , uhhh boss your work sucks. Can we please hire someone now."
And most importantly, how would marvel do during Huldin's slint as
EiC during this year after 2007?
So then, any comments?
It would tank. Its hard enough following a successful EIC like a Shooter/Quesada. But factor in someone who has no experince and has no skills beyond a critized monthly series and it says...FAILURE written all over it. Hudlin would last 3 years. By the 3rd year of fallen sales and all , he'd be out on his ass.

Wow talking about speculative. I mean you cant see him smoozing next to other creators based off of what exactly? For those that I know who have met him stated how cool and down to earth he is how he introduced them to his wife and mother. Every person IN the business have nothing but kind words to him and his work. He stoped in at a show for Stan Lee that had him, Kevin Smith and others there and he thanked those who came before him and made it possible for him to do what he does. So all we have to show his inablility to smooze is his no take no sH*t attitude to internet fanboys who show utter disrespect for his work. I know the next 10 post will say no because he is a racist or no because those who don't like his artist work will be labeled as racist blah blah blah but once all the b/s and rhetoric is done the fact remains that we are fans and he is a IN the busness executive who gets props from those IN the busness.

Where do you get Reginald Hudlin? Is he universally loathed or something? I rarely see anyone comment on him one way or the other...
I wouldn't care, really. Joe Q was a creator when he started out as E-I-C. Even worse, he was one of those Indie guys that bashed Marvel every chance he got. So I don't see how Reggie Hudlin is any more "out there" a choice than Joe Q.

Which is nice to do to say that. But beyond it you rarely see him mentioned by many pros I've seen online. I've never heard Kevin Smith mention his Black Panther . But if they have good for him. I know that Geoff Johns has Richard Donner and guys supporting his work...but do I want Johns as EIC at DC ? No....because he's a better writer than EIC I'd imagine. Same for Grant Morrison who gets universial praise everywhere nearly.
His presence is a lot like Hienberg's and Kevin Smith's. Their Hollywood guys and this is just a minor league job to them . But do you honest to god think their cut out to be EIC ? No...because they aren't a Stan Lee , Jim Shooter or Joe Quesada. This is their life to some guys and to others like a Smith , Hienberg and Hudlin its just something cool to do.
So all we have to show his inablility to smooze is his no take no sH*t attitude to internet fanboys who show utter disrespect for his work.
Maybe he should pose as others on message boards perhaps. Becauise nothing says pro like that. Theres taking no shit and theres trying to lure fans universially to your line of books. Quesada teases the fans at times. He enjoys it but I always walk away feeling that Joe loves the fans regardless and every personal appearance I see is him enjoying it.
Could Hudlin do this to detractors ? Could he be a Joe Quesada and make people at least grudgely accept that he's doing a good job and they really don't have anything personal against him ? Because there are many here who have bad feelings towards Hudlin for instances they can post about.
I know the next 10 post will say no because he is a racist or no because those who don't like his artist work will be labeled as racist blah blah blah but once all the b/s and rhetoric is done the fact remains that we are fans and he is a IN the busness executive who gets props from those IN the busness.

Isn't it silly your the one to 1st mention racism in a post ? A lot of us will try to keep the thread above the usual quagmire most Hudlin threads turn into. I'm glad your fans of his work. But DeFalco and others have fans it doesn't mean I want Tom DeFalco back as EIC. Sorry business is business....but just because Stan Lee likes him doesn't mean he should be EIC.

Joe had the experince . He was a creator all those years and ran his own indie company. Then when Marvel Knights landed he was behind that Imprint.
He was someone who had taken a string of characters and created the MK Imprint that helped them. I can see why he got the job. He had proven himself at luring good talents to books like a Kevin Smith and all.
It didn't shock me when he replaced Harris as EIC.

It didn't shock me when he replaced Harris as EIC.Yes, but before he was the MK guy he did Ninjak and Ash and various other independent books, all the while talking trash about Marvel. (I remember the old Wizard interviews)
So he pulled a bit of a Jim Lee there and joined the ranks of the huge publishers that he'd previously claimed to despise.
At least all Reggie Hudlins guilty of is writing few bad Black Panther stories...

Everyones talked trash about their workplace I'm sure. I know Claremont had few nice words after he left the X-Titles in 1991.
Jim Lee and Lefield also left but came back when they got some power to make some things happen at Marvel as well. Joe Quesada saw that he would have power to make decisions and be in charge of a line of comics. He saw a changing Marvel comics so he came back to play ball.
I don't blame Quesada. He had the talent as he had taken a line of books over and gave em a creative and sales jolt. Beyond those bad stories does a Hudlin have the talent to be an editor of a line of comics ? Can he play the game as Quesada does ?

Before the haters start with the BET is a disgrace angle, since Hudlin has taken over BET he has over seen 4 of the programs largest viewed shows as well as 2 of the top viewed cable programing last year.
OK, you've piqued my curiosity: what two shows? Variety (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117956448.html?categoryid=14&cs=1) doesn't mention BET having 2 top-rated shows, and says the channel ranked 26th among ad-supported cable channels last year. This list (http://www.cable360.net/cableworld/programming/ratings/20116.html) of the Top 50 cable programs for one particular week (granted, not necessarily representative of the whole year) doesn't list any BET shows in the Top 50.
I assume they have to be either "Gangsters," "Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is" or "Lil' Kim: Countdown to Lockdown." How high did they get in the ratings?
So lets see, a company of lets say 300k readers who will be there month to month regardless or a cable program that is the standard for a whole culture of people.
For what it's worth, according to Variety, BET averages 686,000 viewers in primetime.

Lets put it this way. NHL's Stanley Cup finale this year drew an 0.8 . About 900,000 fans. Thats pretty damn sad.
If BET is drawing less fans than the NHL then wow....thats bad.

I'm pretty sure one of the shows Bluezulu was talking about was the 2006 BET Awards. The rating (http://www.cable360.net/cableworld/programming/ratings/18811.html) for that show was somewhere around a 5.0 (6.5 - 6.7 million viewers) and I believe it was probably the highest rated cable awards show for 2006 (even above the usually high rated 2006 MTV Awards (http://www.cable360.net/cableworld/programming/ratings/20291.html)).
I'm not sure what other BET show (probably not series) Bluezulu was referring to.
Edit:
Possibly, the second show Bluezulu might have been referring to could be the BET Hip Hop Awards (http://bet.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=43&item=482).

Thats a nice spot for BET. But what hurts the network is that their average is 686,000 fans in the primetime spot. Beyond 2 Awards shows that caused a spike they haven't a show in Cable's top 50.
Take USA Network for instance. They are a powerhouse with shows like Monk, The Deadzone and WWE Programming. Hell back in 2000 the WWE notched a record for themselves with an 8.1 cable rating (over 10 million viewers).
If BET is gonna improve their gonna need a series that can lure fans in beyond those Award shows.
