Okay when I say 1st string or 2nd string I mean a Marvel character that is seen in the comic books on a regular occassion. And not just once in a blue moon.

Either Captain America or Iron Man. Or maybe the New Warriors.

I think any character in the Marvel U, regardless of whether or not they have an ongoing series, should be fair game when it comes to "killing characters off", otherwise that dynamic loses it's effect...
There has to be a plausible threat than any character can die at any time, otherwise it becomes predictable, and when it get's predictable, it get's boring.
Cap's death was a step in the right direction regarding this, now we just have to wait and see if he's going to stay dead.

there are way too many cat-themed female heroines around. i can't really choose one to die, though.

If it was well wrote, I can stand Black Cat being killed off. I've always liked her character. Tho I'd love to see her and peter back together. possibley after one more day, maybe?

You can only write one good story about a character dying. You can write many good stories about a character that's still alive and having adventures. This "gloom and doom" approach to story-telling is what's wrong with Marvel now.
Correction: it's what I believe is wrong with Marvel, before TheShadow comes to edit me.
considering almost everyone comes back eventually, the effect of 'death' does not really have much weight when there is so much 'resurection'.

We are still currently in couse of a series called "The Death of Captain America". Tony Stark's position is very questionable, he could easily be dead, though I doubt it. Bill Foster and the New Warriors died in Civil War and Quasar in Annihilation. Death has been proven to exist in spades, there's no reason to kill someone off just to kill them off right now .

Amen to that!
Death has come up way too often, and it steals a whole lot of story potential for those characters. And if they come back, it stains their reputation forever (see Jean).

I think Marvel should hold off on more named character death for a while. Every death should be important, and vital to the story being told. Too often, and it just becomes a weekly "Funeral Day."
I'd like to see Captain marvell die in 2008 trying to stop a prison break in the negative zone.
Bye bye marvel universe.

Charles Xavier. He doesn't have a place in the X-men or the Marvel Universe anymore, and besides a mentor figure like him, specially one that is so overpowered (and with a power that limits almost any fight) limits too much the stories, making writers always having to find a way to remove him from the picture, so it's better to just kill him off. And the dozens of retcons of recent years make him irredeamable, put him to sleep for good would be an act of mercy.

He's been depowered and lost in the X-men shuffle for a year or two now. I'm not even too sure where he is anymore. Shi'ar space right? It would be less "OMG HOLY CRAP" and more "Ah. . .that sucks." At least for me.

he's repowered and on his way back to the forefront of x-continuity. didn't you see the preview cover with the Hulk twisting his head off? :D

I'd like to see Janet die, I just don't think they can do anymore with her character.

If Bullseye decided to commit suicide, how would he do it?
That would be an interesting death.
What if Deadpool came up with the same question and decided to drive Bullseye to suicide just to find out?

I'm not overly fond of the Scourge mentality that's continued to weave its way in and out of the books since the original run. With all of the deaths, major and minor, like alot of people I'm just burnt out. Its like watching the same piece of performance art over and over and trying to recapture the shock.
The only "deaths" that remain largely interesting to me are the assumed deaths or exiles, where we get both the impact of their absence on the mainstream and published adventures of the character (over the years, the Hulk has greatly benefited from this strategy-- I wish it had been done more effectively with other characters, like Mr. Fantastic).
