Hey guys.
Allow me to vent first and say that I really haaaaattteee it when I give so much of myself, only to get nill in return.
Or when I'm kind and courteous to someone, and they return the favour by calling me sad and pathetic in return.
So yeah, it does hurt and make me mad.
It just brings up the old emotions, and rips open old wounds from the past.
Anyways, now that's off my chest.
Let's move onto happier things.
I'm off to read CSI:YABS now Stace. Love ya.

Thanks Stace. I loved CSI YABS.
I loved how you had Kat naive, and talking like a SuperFriends era Wonder Woman.
I also loved how irascible you were, and the reference to the "golden shower" left me LOLing.
The best part of the fic?
When you said the rhyme that encompassed Darth Vader, Manfaye and Adrian Paul.
I was laughing my ass off.
Thanks.

Bree will be home soon. I'm covered. In a figurative and literal sense.
Read both issues of Final Crisis. Also read Secret Invasion. In my opinion, Secret Invasion much more understandable. Final Crisis has more ideas in it, better art, but inaccessible to a non comics reader. Not much explained. Possibly a great story if you know the details. Might read better in a trade. Secret Invasion more enjoyable to me.
Also went over the thread again. Appears posters do not wish to hear an idea opposed to their own. Very closed-minded. Not worth telling them a non-comics readers opinion. They would get their panties in a bunch over it if it disagreed with their own ideas.

Cool, I think I'll still just get the story from articles on the interwebs for both. But thanks for the commentary.
Yeah, political threads are bad, comics threads can be up there too sometimes! It kind of silly though cause your input would bring an actual case of a non-fangirl perspective, instead of guessing how it looks.
Glad only sane people post in here.

I'm famous (in my own small circle) for spending entire weekends doing nothing but reading, for getting so caught up in stories that real-world interruptions like hunger, sleep, or work leave me totally disoriented. I may have called in sick a time or two so I could sleep off an all-night trilogy binge. I've recently changed careers, because in a two-month break from work I realized I am much happier when I have more time to read.
Despite my biblioholism, I only rarely find novels so intense that I must take time-outs to recover, akin to a marathon runner pausing for a sip of Gatorade before beginning the next mile. Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series required a number of these light reposes, and so has each of Matthew Woodring Stover's four novels.
With Blade of Tyshalle, Stover returns to the caste-driven future Earth and Studio-exploited Overworld he introduced in Heroes Die. It's seven or so years after Caine's ultimate sacrifice -- you remember, the one that should have Made Everything All Better -- and the situation is even worse than it was before. Not that Caine's death was in vain, but powerful forces at work in both worlds have conspired to put millions of people in danger. And because heroes die, it seems we have no one left to save them.
Bummer, eh?
Over the course of 700-plus pages, Stover takes us on an adventure steeped in thought-provoking questions of ethics, morality, the abuse of power, betrayal, love, family, race, class, philosophy, self-respect, ego, politics, entertainment, and religion. And that's just for starters.
The intellectual blends seamlessly with the physical; I never felt tossed out of the story, or worse, like I'd accidentally slipped into a textbook instead. That's one of Stover's strengths as a writer -- his characters are so complex and involved that the Big Questions flow naturally from them, rather than sitting awkwardly on top as the author tries to overlay his agenda onto the story.
Stover's prose is graphic but not gratuitous, sensual but not sentimental; unlike other writers known for their style, he doesn't allow his facility with language to overpower his characters or their stories. However, his work is not for the faint-hearted. Sometimes it becomes downright relentless. I would quote a passage here to show you except that the novel is so integrated that anything taken out of context becomes almost a parody of itself. Blade of Tyshalle isn't meant to be divided into pithy one-liners.
While I remained engrossed in the story throughout, I did feel somewhat battered toward the end. Perhaps I shouldn't have read the whole thing in two days. Perhaps some of my feeling for George R.R. Martin's novels has leaked into this one, that there aren't enough "up" moments to give me a break from the turmoil besieging the good guys. On the other hand, I admire Stover's ability to make me feel the novel this deeply.

What's stressing me out is that Metal Gear Solid 4 sold 3 millions copies worldwide. This means that they are never going to port it to the 360 which means I won't be able to play it as there are no other games for the ps3 I want to play that I can't find elsewhere. So until White Knight and FX 13 ship I will not be able to bid farewell to Snake.

Thanks again. There is truth in the quote as I based it on my own experience as a customer service rep. I need to laugh at where I've been and where I'm going and not be resentful. The quote helps me laugh at myself. In its own way the metaphysical aspects you may be seeing bring me down to Earth.

I had last night off. Today I have to fill in for the first shift guy and work my third shift. Only the second shift guy called in so now I'm working all three shifts. This is actually against the law so what my company does is they pay you for 16 hours then "forget" to pay you for the other eight which they make up to you at your next check. This will be the first time it happened to me, but it happens to other guards all the time so I know what to expect.

Yes, but barely. Truth to tell I had decided I wasn't going to be a lawyer as my true passion is helping people and I've always been fascinated by how people think. So I'm going to be a cynical behavioral psychologist and have an appointment with an academic adivisor tomorrow about making that happen.
The only reason why i even wanted to be a lawyer was to help people, but being a lawyer is not about that but rather perserving our system of law.

If it makes you feel any better I failed my MAT (Miller's Analogy Test) when I thought of going to library school to earn a MLS. Likewise I was rejected by multiple grad schools (even SCAD) when I applied after earning my BA. It's just a door closing. There will many more opportunities for you that are better.

I'm sorry about that, but you're in SCAD now I'm glad it worked out for you.
And for the record I don't belive in the notion that misery loves company. It doesn't make me feel better to see you denied your dream, in fact it makes me feel like crying.

I'm sorry about that, but you're in SCAD now I'm glad it worked out for you.
This is after the fact and I still faced rejection. I'm a painter and no grad school I applied to was interested in my artwork. It hit me hard. Rejection IS a bitch. I applied for my MFA in graphic design, which got me in the college but it never felt right. I switched to Contemporary Writing, which was a better fit for a blogger/artist/writer.
Had I gone for a painting MFA I may have NEVER applied for the writing program because it didn't exist until 2007. Had I gone to gradschool after my undegrad i would have been done by 2003-04.
I still got rejected by the dramatic writing department, who thought of me as a joke more than a person capable of writing in a dramatic style. It hurts, but I think academics has a lot to understand about how dynamic the world is, and how narrow they are. Likewise I have a lot to learn myself.
My point is that several doors were slammed shut on me. The same happens to all of us, but a better opportunity will come through for you. You weren't made for nothing, you know.

I told you this because I sincerely empathize with where you are. I've been there. My goal wasn't to make you feel bad, but to let you know that eventually you will get past this and find something better.
For the record I bounced back. I'm proud of my artwork and proudly display it on my blog. I like to think God has other plans for me than where I thought I needed to be. My artistic background appears to come in handy when I need them to. I am happy to persue one of my goals (writing) without feeling I have regrets.
