Things people should not ask your friendly neighborhood library assistant:
Where are your Punisher graphic novels?
My professor left a book here. Where is it?
Why don't you stay open later, I have a paper to finish?
What do you mean you're closing?
If the catalog says the book is on "second floor stacks" where is it?
Don't you know I pay a lot of money to go to this college?
What do you mean I can't take this reserve item home with me?
Why can't I check out reference books? My paper is due tomorrow morning?
Why can't I bring drinks and a food into the library?
Can you look up my books and articles?
Speaking of not asking my brother called. Everything is okay between him and his fiancé. As per our custom we didn't talk about it. I literally did not know my nephew was being born until the baby shower a month before the baby was born.

I give my cousin sage advice. And by advice I listen to him for hours on end and give my input when he asks for it. It makes me feel good because I'm making a difference in his life and he gets a nonjudgmental sounding board.

If you need an office suite, and can't/don't want to pay for Office™, Might I suggest OpenOffice (http://why.openoffice.org/)?
Some years ago, Sun Computers open-sourced their Star Office suite and the result today is OpenOffice. It has word-processing, spreadsheet, multimedia presentation, database and drawing modules. Besides natively saving its documents in international-standard open fomats, it will also open and save those other office formats, if you absolutely must.
It runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac, so you should be covered whatever OS you use.
...And did I mention that it's free?

In the old days yes, because of Palpitine description in the first three movies. It was assumed that using the dark side of the force scarred your body, made your skin grey as death, gave you sunken yellow eyes and drove you to be an insane megalomaniac. The flip side though was that you have power that no force user had when aligned to the light. This depiction was the rule in all the comics, games, books etc.
Fast forward three shitty movies later and there has been some retconing in the EU. It turns out that Palpitine appearance, other than the yellow eyes, had nothing to do with the dark side of the force but due to the fact that Mace Windu took his motherfucking lightsaber to Palpitine's motherfucking face. Now the rule is that being aligned to the Dark Side drives you insane and gives you great power but does not alter your appearance besides giving you yellow eyes. However it will age you prematurely if you draw too much darkside force power at once, because they had to explain why the emperor aged so much in the 19 years from Episode 3 to four.

Ok what have you heard he's changed/altered/bastardized?
Because I'm lazy just going to post what was said in the Rumbles and Hulk Thread.
Avoiding the rumbles discussion for a bit I just wanted to give you a heads up. There is going to be a Clone Wars movie this summer so what much of what we saw in the cartoon as well as the comics won't be canon anymore. as the movie and the series is going to overide all that good stuff. :frown:
Since when will the other stuff be overridden? Unless it explicitly contradicts, the C level canon will stand. Apparently the TV shows have gotten a level of Canon all of thier own "T" which is above the C level stuff and right below the movies. More than likely they'll just shoe horn it all into the comprehensive time line.
This summer Clone Wars movie and tv show is going to be G-canon. And since it takes place during the same time the T-canon clone war animated series and the C-canon comics it's going to overide everything that it conflicts with and that should be a substantial amount again the movie and tv show will take place during the same time as the animated show and the comics.
And here is a link explaining what me and Ragnorok are talking about as our posts can be confusing for those who are not into the expanded universe.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Canon
@Lester - IIRC, didn't they have that movie as mini-shows in Cartoon Network?
The tv show will be on Cartoon Network but the movie is an all new feature. One very big retcon the article mentioned is that Vader is going be a Jedi Knight at the start of the Clone Wars and will have an apprentice. An an alien one to boot. That never happened in the Clone Wars comics or the animated series. The new show is going to be a retelling of the Clone Wars so much of what we read and saw will be retconed out. They are still good stories, and come highly recomened, but they will no longer be canon. This show is going to be the One More Day of the Star Wars expanded universe.
http://www.starwars.com/theclonewars/news/announcement.html
The wookieepedia link lists the show and movie at T canon not G. While T does override C, given that the Clone Wars took place over a 3 year period, it still may be possible that the events in this animated series and those previously recounted in the books, comics, games, and previous TV show could still have happened. If there's one thing comics have shown me it's that character's lives can always be packed full of more adventures that somehow don't seem to spill over into their other exploits, just ask Wolverine.
Unless, you have some sort of direct quotation from Like Leland Chee that all the other Clone Wars stuff is getting tossed because of the CG show.
Think about it. If Anakin is a Jedi Knight at the start of the Clone Wars then many of his padawon stories in the comics as well as Jedi Trial (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jedi_Trial) are no longer in the continuity. And if he now has an apprentice with him that never was with up in the comics and novels then that voids much of what was published in Dark Horse and the previous animated series because the apprentice was never with him.
Where is it stated that the show will make him a knight at the begining of the Clone Wars? Are we sure the show doesn't just start after he was knighted?
It would be an incredibly lame move for them to retcon out all the CLone Wars stuff already. I mean this isn't the late 80's early 90's stuff this is stuff that was just published.
George Lucas said this in a recent intervie.
Do you think you'd have other people continue the Star Wars saga past Episode VI or turn some of the other material into films?
But there's no story past Episode VI, there's just no story. It's a certain story about Anakin Skywalker and once Anakin Skywalker dies, that's kind of the end of the story. There is no story about Luke Skywalker, I mean apart from the books. But there's three worlds: There's my world that I made up, there's the licensing world that's the books, the comics, all that kind of stuff, the games, which is their world, and then there's the fans' world, which is also very rich in imagination, but they don't always mesh. All I'm in charge of is my world. I can't be in charge of those other people's world, because I can't keep up with it.
In other words George is saying that he's not beholden to what's happen in other formats he had no direct involvement in so he going to do his own thing. And since his own thing overwrites everything else expect some major changes in continuity.
http://www.starwars.com/theclonewars/news/news20080317.html
I'm aware of those George Lucas quotes, but I go with what Lucas Film as a whole says as far as continuity is considered as opposed to George exclusively. He says one thing, then goes and uses all kinda of EU stuff in the movies.
I'll stick with Lucas Film's continuity hierarchy. The C level stuff stands until something of G or, apparently now, T level makes it impossible to have happened.
From what I've seen, this seems to be taking place after Anakin is knighted, since we see Venator Class Star Destroyers and they weren't in service till about halfway through the Clone Wars.
Only time will tell in this case.
I do hope you are right. Nothing gets me madder than retcon changes voiding stories as I'm very emotionally attached to the EU.

What Lucas does is swipe ideas from the EU, presents them as his own but does a poor job of it. For instance he took Jedi Master Aayla Secura from the comics pictured here.http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d170/Dark152/Jedi/aayla_secura_aurra_sing.jpg and had her put in the Episode two pictured here. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w26/xxtwilightstormxx/SW/Jedi/400px-Aayla.jpg Lucas than put her in episode 3 and chose to give her an ignomous death worthy of the least padawon pictured here. http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f150/revenaught/AaylaSecura_bg.jpg What hurt is that in the comics we saw her go from a baby to a bad ass Jedi Master, one of the best of the order, and that wasn't reflective of her movie apparances as she went out like a punk.

Actually Lucas loved Aalya Secura. She was never suppose to be in the movies, just a comic book character, but Lucas saw a painting of her and put her in the last second on episode 2. It's just, like every other character in the movies, Lucas didn't know how to use them right. It fell on other people to explain how things like how Anakin went from emo to baddass or how Palpitine aged 50 years in 19.

Memo to self: when a girlfriend says 'what's your ambition in life', say rocket surgeon. Because 'to be happy', doesn't cut it as an answer and apparently is very upsetting.
Well feck.
This is not fair Tobias. You put your foot in your mouth and I'm the one that needs surgery. That's not right.

Thanks for the advice. She still upset or were you able to smooth things over?
This is where time zones become a problem, because it's the middle of the night over there and she had to go to bed. I'll have to call her in the morning. She thinks my attitude is a little too devil may care, but then if I were to allow all of my concerns to overwhelm me - leaving my job, travelling to Oz, my father's illness, having to start new friendships - I would just crawl under a rock and cry.
It's not that I don't care, it's just I try to take each thing at a time. But I forgot the key rule of relationships. To be dependable.

Really don't worry about it. And if for some reason you feel uncomfortable with that dentist, try to find another one.
It's like a divorce. I've had this particular wisdom tooth for 12 years, and now she wants out of the marriage. Why is the tooth a woman, you might. Because there will be a significant amount of pain involved in the separation.

I made it out alive. The procedure itself was only ten minutes. So fare I am two hours out of surgery and no pain whatsoever. I'm not even sore yet. I got a bloody gauze in my mouth but so far no pain. And if there is a little pain I have Advil. And if there is a lot of pain I have 24 pills of Vicodin. I have no intention of trying the Vicodin so I think I'll dump down the toilet in a week or two after I'm sure I won't need it. And the best part is that the tooth was so far back it doesn't effect the appearance of my smile.
On to the bitching. I know I only have a 36 dollar copay, but the bastards charged me 300 dollars for the procedure. That wouldn't be a big deal, but almost half of that came form a "complex oral examination." Dude talked to me for like five minutes about my medical background and glanced at my xray. How is that a complex oral examination?
And here is why I'm an idiot. I have two bloody gauzes from my mouth. I was going to throw them out at the store garbage bin, then thought. What if there is a serial killer who sees me throwing out the bloody gauze, grabs them goes into the Walmart and seals it in a plastic bag. Then what if said serial killer murders someone and then plants the blood at the scene of the crime. What if OJ didn't do it. Then I realized that the Dentist still had the bloody tooth and what if he was a serial killer. My imagination sucks sometimes.

I can be a bit jaded when it comes to relationships, but if I were you I'd try to resolve this as soon as possible because she has already taken a mental note to bring this BACK up when its argument time, which can be like, whenever. :frown:
Be prepared to be taken through some changes too. Simply remind her you want to work through this together and NOT have a rift come between you.

Aaaa-a-a-a-a-h-h-h-h...!
I finally got a tiny little break between projects/events at work and am actually taking a week off. With the exception of spending one overnight in New York and seeing a friend who lives there, I am planning to do as little as is humanly possible for the next week.
Better still, when I scheduled the week I didn't bother looking at the calendar - it was pretty much "This is when I'll have the chance, and I'm taking it...!" and, by sheerest coincidence, the weekend ending my vacation is a three-day-er!!! WOO-HOO!
And to top it all off, my loan from Dubya came in today and -- while I resent the fact that I'll be paying income tax on it in 11 months, and paying back the loan when, in some distant future, we're trying to pay down the massive deficit that Mr. "Let's-Cut-Taxes-And-Then-Start-A-Useless-And-Hideously-Expensive-War-That-Shows-No-Signs-0f-Ending" is leaving us with -- it means that my trip is paid for and I'll have a couple of bucks left over!
Oh...! AND I just had this (http://www.arsgeek.com/?p=3961) little bit of total, frickin' BRILLIANCE pointed out to me...!

What would you do if you couldn't do that?

Once again YABS feels so silent. Perhaps its a sign that I should get some rest.

Enjoy the fact, that you get to sleep through the night. As soon as I take the LSAT I'm going to focus on getting a day job with decent pay.

I work second shift and take a class. Free time is usually stress reduction.

You work in a library. Shouldn't there be no busness during the second shift.

An academic library. Kids want books and computers 24/7, and expect us to be open 24/7. Truth be told, I am getting VERY tired of the same go around. I'm praying for something brighter, better paying, and working conditions.

I just had a mix of oatmeal and peanut butter.
I'm never going to the bathroom ever again.

I'm de-stressed because I'm doing laundry for free in my underwear. After spending the first 28 years in an apartment, I will never take having a laundry and dryer for granted.

We have a brand new dish washer but we don't know how to use it so its just been sitting there for two years. I tried to use it once, and there was enough water and soap to go swimming in the kitchen.

You're supposed to close it before turning it on.

We've got a dishwasher, too, but it's an older model. Even dries and puts 'em away.
Although it does bitch about dishpan hands a lot . . .

I did. Someone told me that happened because I used regular dish washing soap rather than specially made dish washing soap.

Are you kidding? I pray for the smoothness of sandpaper on my hands. Lubriderm jumps off my hands in frustration. I've smoothed knotted redwoods with my hands.
You know how some people's hands are registered as lethal weapons? Mine are registered as Velcro.
