Killing time until I go to bed. I promised myself that I would not begin playing GTA 4 until I began my weightlifting lifestyle. Well I broke my diet today, as my friend just had to go to the Steak and Shake across the street so now ass has more carbs in me Byron has sucky poems.
You're just jealous that Byron got to have a swordfight with Adrian Paul and you didn't.

Yeah, you'd like to think that, wouldn't you? But between the cell phones always going off, the students gossiping about the latest "he said/she said," the music coming from their YouTubes and MySpace profiles, the iPods that are turned to "I'll be deaf by the time I'm 25," and the frustrated librarians constantly telling them to shut the hell up--not so much.
It's okay now, though. I get to hang out in my office and listen to my own iPod. The paperwork I have for the next two weeks or so will be light, so that's nice too.
That's cool. And yeah I was kinda joking about the whole quiet thing, it wasn't very quiet in the school library, especially around finals....
Are the summer months generally quieter or is it the same as a regular semester?

Generally quieter and slower. It's a relatively small campus, so it's mostly just the summer school kids wanting to check their Facebook. We do shelf reading next week, and that's always fun. (I'm weird like that.)

I don't think that deaf thing is true. For my entire life I've had walkmans, cd-mans and now mp3 players cranked up to the max, on a daily basis, and my hearing is fine. My listening isn't too good, but as far as I know my hearing is perfect.

What's shelf reading?
Librarianspeak for "cleaning up the shelves, putting the books back in order, and making sure there's enough space on the shelves for the new books coming in." It's also when we take inventory on the years we do inventory. Shelf reading for us is only once a year, though I wish we did it at least twice a year because the shelves get so disorganized (and because we close the library during that time. )

Just listening to your music won't hurt your hearing, I don't think, but the students I'm talking about listen to their music so loud I can hear it over the iPod on my desk in my office, and it's clear across the room from them. That's gotta be bad for their hearing.

Like it's my fault that whenever anyone reads Byron or Shelly said author rolls in their crave because their work is so bad by modern standards. And the freaks across the pond are just as bad. British sentence construction is bad enough on it's own, but Victorian British construction takes the cake. That's right. I'm calling you out Charles Dickens and William Shakesphere. Not literally though, as I'm afraid of ghosts.

While damage can happen suddenly, generally it occurs over time as the hair-like cells in the inner ear become brittle from being energetically vibrated for extended periods of time.
A tuning fork that is, occasionally, tapped gently will last almost infinitely long; one that is constantly being rapped on a hard surface is likely to develop crystalization and stress fractures in a relatively short time.
And the result of exposure to loud noises doesn't have to include total hearing loss. It could simply result in a sufficient loss that tinnitus -- a ringing, whistle, or hiss in the ear that has no external source and can be caused by a feedback effect in the inner ear -- can become can become sufficiently audible to mask external noises.
I'm in my early 50s and started noting a tinnitus in one ear about three years ago, or so.
So, yeah... the fact that you've noticed no adverse effect in your 20s, 30s, or 40s from your music playback volume means precisely squat.

I know I promised to go on sabbatical yesterday, but something came up and I really need your input. This is quite honestly the most serious decision I've ever had to make. I should just go to the Ask A Blonde thread, but hitting Bree up for unsolicited medical advice because she's a doctor would be entirely inappropriate as I'd be using her and that's not right.
Recently I got medical insurance so I went to the dentist. Well I have a cavity in my upper right wisdom tooth, which I've known about four three or four years. The cavity never got any bigger and there was no pain so I just let it slide. Well they did an xray and they determined they can't get to it and they WANT TO PREFORM SURGERY TO TAKE IT OUT!
What my problem boils down too is whether or not I should let them preform surgery. I know this happens everyday, but I'm afraid to let them put me under and go under the knife, drill, scapal whatever the hell they use. In terms of economics they would be the best time to do the surgery, as I have insurance and a substantial amount in my savings. But as far as I'm concerned I don't need the surgery, but then again if it's going to get worse maybe I should get it. Anyway what do you guys think?

I think you should take a deep breath, then mull it over for a few days. If you decide to have the removal, you should plot out some time to have it done. If you have any type of annual or sick leave use it to recover.

Do you know anyone that's had their wisdom teeth pulled? Just what kind of recovery are we talking about as I'm sure you know by now I was not made for pain. That's not nor never been my style. Some pride themselves on their toughness on handling pain, I pride my self on avoiding it whenever possible.

I'll have to ask my peeps, but there are some pains you can't get around. Best wishes, hero.
There are some emotional pains you can't get around, I'll grant you that. But any physical pain can be avoided, if you take preventive care. For instance if I'd brush better and eaten right I would not be dealing with this issue.
Well at least my physical/heart echo doplar thing went all right. Given my size I stunned the doctor when I went all out their tread mill for an hour on the highest setting possible. I credit that to the fact that I read comics for two hours each day while working on this machine on level seven with a 50 incline.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c269/trigunfan1/efx546.jpg
My chest was bursting with pride until afterword when the doctor said that she could tell that I worked out a lot based on my heart rate, lack of sweat and exertion. That made me feel good. Then she had to ruined it by stating that I must really eat like a pig in order me to be so fat with my fitness level. And she said it just like that too. That's not what I call bedside manner. I could have told her that I used to eat like a pig, but had just lost 30 pounds since 3-14-08 but I was in a real depressed mood at that point.

Boounrs to your doctors bedside manner. At least your healthy and you've lost weight!
As for wisdom teeth removal, my sister had them removed. I don't think they knock you out for that. However she was sore after and if I recall correctly it took her 2/3 days before she could comfortably eat solid foods again. But really, my memory is shoddy....

If they don't put me out, then maybe it's not so bad. I have a consultation next Friday and I'm going to have a lengthy list of questions. I am going to have a brainstorming session with Word at work and print everything out.

Regarding my the cardiologist I at least at the satisfaction that she was one ugly pruned face woman. Most of you having seen my picture no I'm no pretty boy, but I could not look her full on in the face for fear that of being turned into stone.I spent the entire time talking at her neck rather than her head for fear of wincing if I looked at her face. I know that's horrible to think, even worse to type but she was mean to me so I don't fucking care.
Moving on don't copy and paste this term into Wikipedia. Extraction (dental) After seeing the picture of the tooth removal and reading the complications I'm ready to go into a full panic attack. I swear to God from now on I'm going to brush and floss at least two times a day. All I ask is that when I ask the surgeon if I have any other options he or she will say yes, Lester you don't need surgery. I'll even pay out of pocket if my insurance doesn't cover any other alternative methods of dealing with the upper right wisdom tooth, which I'm thinking of naming Dr. Bree.

I could talk more about my former cardiologist. I'm not saying this was an ugly women, I'm just saying I finally understand where the term prune face originates from. This women lower face and lips resembled a prune. To be honest I think God played a nasty joke when this woman was conceived. She has sucky lips and face of a fish. Watch. Somewhere in the ocean scientists are going to be shocked when they discover a fish with the seductive lips of a human female, proof that god made a little switcheroo.

She has the body of bulky body of a man, the voice and name of a woman and the head of a !@#$ing fish. What do you think? I think if there is ever a Savage Dragon movie, she can star as one of the freaks and the film makers will save a fortune on makeup.
Working out on a cardio machine is one of the few things I excel at when compared to everyone else. No one, and I mean no one works harder and longer at the Efx machine in me. While this is a bad thing, as it means my body needs to work much harder to achieve the same results as someone who has to struggle with an insane heart beat, I'm proud of the fact that I'm better at something than someone else. Then she had to make me feel like crap, when I blew her and the staff away with my performance.

I hope all of you learn something as you are sprouting ignorance that will only confound, obscure and occlude the Star Wars myths. And I' don't even know what t occlude means but I think I read it once in the stated context.
A quick note on the cannon timeline. BBY stands before the Battle of Yavin. ABY stands for After the Battle of Yavin. So in other words Luke Skywalker is born 19 years before the Battle of Yavin or 19BBY and fights Vader for the last time years after the Battle of Yavin or 5BBY. Got it. Good, now spread the word, Star Wars EU is fucking awesome.
Old Republic
25,000-1,000 BBY
The Republic controls the galaxy, under the rule of the Senate. The Jedi are spread far and wide throughout the galaxy helping to maintain peace and justice. During this time is chronicled the ancient Sith wars.
Rise of the Empire
1,000-0 BBY
The Sith have fallen and all that remains, unknown to the Jedi Order, is Darth Bane who implements his rule of two Sith, a Master and an Apprentice. It is a period of peace and prosperity. The Republic grows daily. Until a Senator from Naboo, Palpatine, begins to cause unrest. In the last 30 years of the Old Republic the Senate crumbles and the Clone Wars are fought. The Jedi Order is all but destroyed.
Rebellion
0-5 ABY
A time of war. The Rebel Alliance under the leadership of people like Mon Mothma, Leia Organa, and Luke Skywalker battle against the Empire and it's rulers, Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader. It ends shortly after the Battle of Endor when, on a mission to the Imperial planet of Bakura, Princess Leia negotiates a peace treaty with the first of many one-time Imperial planets.
New Republic
5-25 ABY
The New Republic grows rapidly. Coruscant is taken from the Empire and is restored as the capital planet of the Republic once again. Mon Mothma becomes the first Chief-of-State. The threats of Grand Admiral Thrawn, Admiral Daala, Intelligence Director Ysanne Isard, and the many warlords that claim to control the Empire are fought and defeated. Luke Skywalker begins training Jedi at the old Rebel Base, Yavin IV, as Leia replaces Mon Mothma as Chief-of-State. After the Corellian Insurrection Leia takes a leave of absence and after the treaty with the Empire steps down completely. Borsk Fey'lya is elected to replace her.
The New Jedi Order
25-37 ABY
It has been 21 years since the Battle of Endor and the deaths of Palpatine and Vader. Now a new threat immerges. One that is not from this galaxy. They come in swiftly and before anyone knows what has happened planets begin to fall, people die, and a new struggle for survival has begun. They are called the Yuuzhan Vong. And slowly they spread throughout the New Republic slowly taking down what our heroes have spent 20 years building. Luke, Leia, Han, Mara, Wedge and Lando, along with new heros, Jacen, Jaina and Anakin Solo, and many other new Jedi Knights must work together with the Republic, Imperial Remnant, and Chiss Imperium in order to restore the peace.
Legacy
37+ ABY
The war with the Yuuzhan Vong is over. The problems with the Killiks solved. Now is truly a time of peace. Luke Skywalker's Jedi Order has been rebuilt. But now planetary interests seek to disrupt this peace and something darker still looms on the horizon.
Legacy of the force
125 years after ABY the decendents of all that came before are still up to their old tricks in the kick ass comics by John Ostrander and Jan Duresma.
Infinities
Alternate Universe, not on timeline
What would happen if you took your favorite stories, stories you've known for years and just one thing changed. One little thing... This is the Star Wars Infities series. This also includes the Star Wars Tales line. The things recorded here are what may have been... Or just the crazed dreams of Star Wars story tellers.

Intresting you shold point that out. Their is a hiarcy for cannon in the expanded universe. Everything is 100 percent cannon unless a source higher conflicts with the lower source in which case the higher source is cannon and the lower source is noncanon. Here is the order of canon Star wars Expanded Universe from top to bottom.
1. Episode 1-6
2. The forthcoming Clone Wars TV series.
3. The Clone War animated show.
4. The Novels
5. The Comics
6. The Lightside ending to the video games
7. Various source books.
8. Trading cards and other shit I don't buy.

I wanna see that stuff in the movies. Comics, novels, games? I want to see some movies where Lucas can put some of this shit to use. Otherwise he's not doing a damn thing for me, which is at the heart of my dissatisfaction. I don't read any expanded universe, and you already know Shadows of the Empire was my one and only novel.

I'm going to let you in n a little secret. George Lucas is a fucking hack. Episode 4 was blatantly stolen from several different sources. His involvement in Episode was minimal which is why it's the best of the series.
His direct involvement in Episode 6 and the animated special made both those projects a mess. His direct involvement in episode 1-3 led actors that displayed as much range as Keanu Reeves on a bad day. A very bad day. He took Natalie Portman, and Hayden Christan, two very good actors with very accomplished acting skills, and turned them into stiff poster cutouts onscreen. Star Wars Episode 1-3 was the most expensive still frame of all time.
Star Wars is only epic, when George stays on his ranch collecting royalties checks from other people that know what the fuck they are doing. I say fuck the movies, and bring on the Expanded Universe which is the best thing in entertainment going in spite of George Lucas.
Lester C.

One last point on George Lucas. The actor who played Vader, Sebastian Shaw, voiced all of his lines and then later James Earl Jones dubbed is voice over the lines. The only problem is that no one told Shaw about this. Shaw told his friends, family, everyone he could think of that he was going to be the Heavy in Star Wars. Then the poor bastard was sitting there when the movie premiered, with everyone, and when his role comes up he hears this voice of a black guy. And while I think this if funny, it was a really cruel thing to do.

That's your POV because you are entrenched in the other formats. For the rest of us we like movies and would love to see the EU in movie format.
Defend the EU all you want, but until it sees some silver screen time you ain't saying nothing.
EDIT: Let me go back to what my real line of thinking is. When we do see feature films and animation in SW its back into the prequels. What I'd like is to see SW break past that and put some shows together that go beyond. Of further past. We're being held hostage movie wise.
Les, you talk of this wealth of material in other formats, but i could care less about them. I wanted to see some films based on the property that went past where Lucas seems to want to keep us.

Like I was the only one that bitched about the movies, particularly the latter three. Anyway the movies do have a purpose. Each movie inspires hundreds of books, comics, and games from that period of time in Star Wars history so I love for that if nothing else.

You're missing my point. When a new film project is out its still around the prequels. It's rather disappointing. Something new film wise would be exciting.
I'm not disputing your disdain for the prequels. The prequels were horrible, great SFX, but so many plot holes, bad writing and God awful characters & characterization...
Great movies to fall asleep on.

My say would be yes they are a part. I'm not disputing their authenticity at all.
I simply want to see a movie that shows some of the expanded universe, like 100 years in the past, or maybe even five-100 years after the last SW movie.
The clone wars animation if firmly entrenched in the between Phantom Menace, and Revenge of the Sith.

I don't curse in real life. That's the problem. Every time I do I feel very guilty and stupid, because that's how I was raised. I was taught that only people with a very poor vocabulary and no manners swear, so it was unacceptable to do it in any situation.
The only time I ever swear is with my brother or my cousin, but that's only because they will make fun of me if I don't, so I always start the conversation with an obscenity.

Your bro and cuz are having a little fun at your expense. :frown:

Barq's has caffeine - or did at one point. A&W, Mug, IBC, and Stewart's are caffeine free.
Barq's is so good.

Well I bet my brother is sorry now. I mentioned this earlier, but I got a call from him so I said, "Bitch, what do you want?" or something close to that. It was his fiancé, who was looking for him, and man was she pissed. I turned my cell phone off after that.

I don't curse much either. It's usually tv friendly variety. And if I do swear than you know something is really bad.
Dunno why though, just never became part of my vocabulary.

I am a little confused. Is she mad with you and your bro, or just your bro? I don't think she took kindly to be called a bitch.

My blog is so rated G you might think a different person writes the LJ.
I do however do curse, and I have learned as a writer I must use different voices and tones because nothing is worse than trying to pretty up a crass scene with politeness. Smacks of unrealness.
I don't go out of my way to cure, but every now and then I have to get that energy out of me. Surprisingly, I've made a true effort to stop swearing while driving.

I don't know. I'm not even sure she heard me. She just started yelling where my brother was at, then hung up when I told her I didn't know. I only got a word or two in before she hung up. I tried calling my brother to warn him, but his cell was turned off so I left a message.

That's me, too. It's actually pretty much second nature for me NOT to because I'm around kids all day and they don't need to hear me talk like that or pick it up from me.
Also, my parents didn't curse when I was growing up. My dad came close - ONCE - but still managed not to.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it (unless you're a kindergaten teacher or something  ). It's just not something I do.
As for writing yeah, I hate it when you know a character should swear and instead they find a lame substitute instead.
Gotta wash the dishes, be back in a bit

I'm going to try to get some sleep, even though I'm a bit upset from drama in another thread. Good night everybody, be well.

Same thing with my parents. Well sorta, I don't think I ever heard my dad swear.
My mom well, she'd sometimes say these expressions in tagalog when she was angry or surprised. For the longest time I thought it was just that, expressions. Then in my late teens I learned she was actually swearing. I find that hilrious even now :D
Have fun.
thanks

Mine cursed so much, they took the fun out of it being naughty. My uncle was the worst because he didn't care who was around.

Things people should not ask your friendly neighborhood library assistant:
Where are your Punisher graphic novels?
My professor left a book here. Where is it?
Why don't you stay open later, I have a paper to finish?
What do you mean you're closing?
If the catalog says the book is on "second floor stacks" where is it?
Don't you know I pay a lot of money to go to this college?
What do you mean I can't take this reserve item home with me?
Why can't I check out reference books? My paper is due tomorrow morning?
Why can't I bring drinks and a food into the library?
Can you look up my books and articles?
