Yes it's all very confusing. it's so much faster to write in english.
(...)
Not what you meant, I know, but as someone who's had to copy-fit text in different language translations in flyers and the like, I can definitely say that English is one of the - if not THE - most compact of the languages that use the Roman alphabet.
In an unrelated note... I was flipping channels last night and caught a couple of minutes of "Die hard With a Vengeance", right at the point that Bruce Willis and Sam jackson try to take over the freighter in the East River. Willis hands Jackson one of the bad guys' machine guns and then is surprised that he has to show him how to use it.
To which Jackson replies: "We don't all know how to shoot a gun you racist melon-farmer!"
...You know... I think I miss the days when they just blanked out a word, rather than trying desperately - and badly - to find something to replace it with.
(...although I have to admit I might start calling the drivers who keep trying to run me down in the crosswalks "stupid melon-farmers!")

HA! You'll laugh. My undergrad was Communications, of all things, with a minor in Journalism. I did take Spanish as my undergrad language, which wasn't as much of a cop-out as you think. I don't know what it is, but I can understand Spanish much MUCH better than I can speak it. My parents will talk to me in Spanish, but I'll answer them in English because I can't seem to flip that switch in my head. It's pretty sad, really.
That's not terrible. We started with French because I am terrible at it in spite of taking it and passing in my undergrad years.
It's minor phrases for me. perhaps I shall take advantage of this French book on reserve.

A friend of mine was selected for jury duty once. She was lucky, since she was in the "english speaking" pool (don't know the proper term) and there aren't as many cases compared to french. When they inally did call her for jury duty, the defendant pleaded guilty and that was it.

Time for the weekly update then back on strike. These updates keep me honest and motivated.
I took a picture of myself today and compared it to a month back. I looked a little bit smaller BUT I the shape of my body was still the same. I've been so focused on weight loss, that I haven't been lifting weights or anything. Had I been exercising more and eating more I would have lost less weight, but the shape of my body would have been far more appealing so over the next month I will focus on that.
On to other issues I popped in the first desk of my Highlander TV Series DVD after it's been sitting on the shelf for a few years. The phrase accidental comedy comes to mind. The acting on the show is terrible and wooden. Sk 716 called it when she stated that Adrian Paul was a hairy fugly beast and a good waste of a mancrush. The dialogue badly written with plot holes large enough to fit Sabrinaset's ego through. (Yes, I know Bree is very humble and never brags about her many accomplishments but she attacked my eyebrows the only feature on me that's only remotely Assyrian and I'm not going to let that !@#$ stand! 0
Where was I again? Oh yea, talking about how much Highlander the TV show sucks, which much I found out much to my horror having remembered it as the greatest show of my youth. On the plus side I did watch all the Babylon 5 episodes a couple of years back and they at least hold up surprisingly well.
In a final bit of news, on which I told Heystacy about, I scored all 87 issues of Mike Grell's Green Arrow for nine bucks on Ebay, which came as a shock because my max bid was a hundred bucks. To make matters worse for the seller he or she is Canadian so that nine bucks was really more like seven or eight. I haven't been lurking, which is a good thing as my response to what happened to Hellokitty Kat's right eye would have been nowhere near worksafe, so I have nothing else to add other than the fact that I'm proud of my fierce warrior eyebrows and that all of you still suck and I'll see you !@#$es next week!

Plenty. I have a lot of terms, ideas, and concepts I would like to add to my own scripts/ideas. Some of the ideas in the book contradict what I learned through my classes, but they have a firm sensibility I want to try. At bare minimum, I have something I'd like to work out.
I must say, by contrast, i write CSI:YABS out of the top of my head, and people find it hilarious. This is me without a filter on my mind. perhaps I can incorporate it in my learning.

That's good. I guess writing isn't an exact science, so you're bound to find different sources contradicting each other.
As for CSI:YABS, it shows that it's done for fun and it comes through.

Thanks. I do love to entertain.
I must say though, TV shows have a formula. When the formula breaks, that's when people abandon the show. It works like that on comics, and sequels to popular movies sometimes.

I'm coming off of strike for a second because something been bothering me. Yesterday we were getting a new cable service installed so I had my dad take a picture of me since I lost 30 pounds. As you can see I still have a long way to go but the point of the picture is to look at my face.
THERE IS NOTHING ABNORMAL ABOUT MY EYEBROWS AND DAMN BREE FOR PUTTING THAT THOUGHT IN MY HEAD!
*actually the real reason for posting the picture is for it to act as a motivation so when I post another one next month you'll notice a big difference as I don't want to embarrass myself. I just got the Heroes DVD season one box set. If I don't like it, I'm going to Ohio and will kick Tommy's ass as that's his show. Logistically Tommy asskicking might be a problem being the only black person in Ohio he'd see me coming. I got a plan thought. Use the intenet to lure him out for bad sex than BAM ass kicking time.
Moving on, someone managed to capture Bree thought bubbles when she was hanging out with Ninja Kris not too long ago.

Samurai: Heaven and Earth is a great mini hero, but that's Sokka of the Northern Water Tribe. You wanna wear it, you gotta give the character his props. Sokka is the man.
Sokka? That's not even Japanese as it can't be cleanly written out in Hiragana or Katakana. I'm guessing his name is Sokuka or something like that.
And how am I ever suppose to respect the fact that he's from the North. In Japan when they say someone from The North that's like saying someone from the untamed wild west here. It's not a compliment especially in a culture that prides itself on civilized conduct and conformity. I'm guessing Avatar is an American production about Japanese characters which is no doubt sucks if you actually know anything about Japan.

Not Japan, hero. The characters inhabit a fantasy world with predominantly Asian characters. Many of the names are Chinese (if memory serves correct). I was wrong and should have said Sokka is Southern Water Tribe. My bad.
Avatar, the Last Airbender is a great show that manages to mix drama, character, action, and on occasional humor in a sophisticated way that many other cartoons (and TV shows) lack.
Also, many other people here love the show.

I was hoping to make a move from professional writing (where I am) to dramatic writing (where I want to be). I got a big, "stay where you are" buzz from the review committee.
I feel silly because I started second guessing myself, and from what I read, it felt like I was being told I had no skill for screen writing.

Pro writing is your speech writing, your technical writing, proposals, cover letters, copy writing, and business material. All your formal writing. Pro writes usual work in new media on websites and in creative nonfiction (feature writing).
Dramatic writing is your play and screenwriters. They work on stage and screen. Your tv shows, big screen movies and plays.
There is a silver lining here. I could stay a pro writer and take screen writing courses as electives.
