It's not that uncomfortable. The weirdest times are when they're expecting somebody really butch. I've had a couple of her friends tell me the second they saw me that I wasn't really a lesbian because of the makeup/hair/dresses/heels/voice/general girliness/whatever else doesn't strictly conform to their "lumberjack" stereotype.

hi Kate... if the tapes are in good shape, you should transfer them to disc with the equipment that I just told Kylie about... if the tapes are just too bad off, then they're stuff that you've lost and nothing can be done about them except to toss 'em...

I don't know what the rate is for a combo unit in the UK, but here a GOOD combo player/recorder runs about $250-300... never get anything cheaper than that, otherwise the VHS tape player and the DVD recorder will never be able to maintain the strain of heavy volume recording if you have a lot of stuff to transfer to disc... the pricier the combo unit, the longer-lasting it will be...

Traditionally, in a parranda you are suppose to open up your door, let all the people in to your house, sing with them, and give ‘em some food, actually alcohol is prefer nowadays. The trench coat seemed good, and I just liked the Mexican wrestling styled mask.

Okay, writing the sign up thread for the RPG.
So far I have this for your viewing pleasure to critique and poke holes in. I'm still writing some of it.

Introduction
I don't know if there is any sort of interest in this kind of thing, but I've had fun with these before. A superhero RPG. The story takes place in a world I've been building up in my mind for a while now, the world of Devil Squid and the Armada. The Armada is a superhero team with a 'street' feel (think Batman/DareDevil/Spider-Man-ish). I will post the history and lore of this superhero world more tomorrow. But a few basics...

Basic Armada History

Devil Squid is a hero who came onto the scene about five years ago, in the small town of Ruton. In the first year he fought Tendril, who had been intent on destroying the town, and the whole tri-city area, in a massive gang war that would have left hundreds dead. Devil Squid managed to stop the disaster from happening, but only at the cost of Tendril's life. The next year he joined Medusa and Steel Nautilus to form the Armada. They came into conflict with the Albatross (a Punisher type of antihero), and more importantly, a villainous organization known as BWRD (the very organization that gave Devil Squid, Tendril, and Medusa their powers). In the fifth year, a new villain came on to the scene. He tried a similar approach Tendril used, but with the benefit of an earthquake machine. This time, the Armada lost, and Ruton was lost to the tremors and violence. The Armada disbanded, Devil Squid disappeared. A month later, Devil Squid and a reformed Albatross appeared in Pelican City. Rumor is they plan to restart The Armada...

Okay, that should give you the basics of what I've done with the world. I'm still pretty flexible about what all is there and some of the stuff. It's not exactly DC or Marvel, but I don't mind if you use ideas from either. I'll post more of the Devil Squid and Armada history later, just in case anyone wants to try incorporating it into their character back stories somehow.

I can't flesh out the plan all that well, since some of it is still vague. The whole Devil Squid story is sort of a work in progress, but I'll give you the lowdown on the Tendril arc.

Now, Tendril was really Chaney Dresser, Devil Squid's (aka Lawrence 'Larry' Talbin's) cousin. When Larry was born, his mom left him. His father is unknown. So Larry was brought up by his granny, Rosie. Then, when Chaney was four and Larry was two, Chaney lost his folks in a car crash. Rosie only had the resources to take care of one child, so Chaney was adopted by the Dressers, close family friends. The Dressers already had a daughter, Harriet. So Larry was raised by his grandmother, and Chaney was raised by the Dressers. Since they lived in town and were family friends, the Dressers made sure to keep Rosie and Larry a part of Chaney's life. And all was good.

Anyways, now we get to the more comic book stuff. Roughly a year after Larry was abducted, experimented on, and then let loose into the world with no explanation, the same happened to Chaney and Harriet. Whereas Larry was endowed with squid/octopus/cuddle-fish powers, Chaney and Harriet were given jellyfish powers, namely great balance, regeneration, and the ability to create deadly stinging tendrils they can use as whips (not always deadly, they can control which toxins the tendrils use).

Now, the experiment worked fine on Harriet, but made Chaney a bit more, well, wrathful. More prone to anger and nastiness. And then his adoptive parents died via crime. So, Chaney, now Tendril, decided to go all Punisher, killing criminals to seek revenge. In the process, he came into the conflict with the law and killed some cops. Tendril noticed a pattern of escalation, and realized that if he knew which criminals and cops to target, and if he knew how to play one gang against the others, he could create a war between cops, criminals, and super villains that would leave most of them dead, thus giving good odds that whoever killed his parents would be dead. Having become a bit sociopathic by then, he didn't mind that a lot of innocent people would also wind up dying.

He got things to the boiling point. All he had to do was set off one more spark, and the whole thing would blow. Devil Squid came, tried to talk sense into Tendril, or at least beat him up and stop him. But it became apparent that if Devil Squid tried to take him in alive, he would lose. And the town couldn't afford it. All Tendril had to do was make one last kill to start a war that would consume the town, and he was literally inches away from his target.

Devil Squid was forced to kill his cousin. For the first time in almost a year, having almost forgotten about the forced aspect of his own origins, Devil Squid decided to track down the people who had given him and Chaney their powers. It had been that experimentation which had filled Chaney with such wrath. The murder of his adoptive parents had just tipped him over.
And of course, Devil Squid himself would take a more harsh stance against crime. He had lost people because of it. Worse, the super villainy aspect of it wouldn't even exist if there hadn't been a superhero to advertise the town in such a way.

Months later, to try and make up for the deeds of her adoptive brother, Harriet would take up his red mask and become Medusa (the French for jellyfish).

That's the basics of the Tendril Arc, which is the second big story in the Devil Squid mythos.

It's one of my better ideas.
It's perhaps the darkest story too. Some of the mythos is light, some not. For example, anything and everything with Karl Jetter is funny. Until Jetter's Last Flight, which deconstructs the character and theme a bit. The details for that are still in the construction phase, but it is a good one. I try to keep humor in certain parts of the Devil Squid saga, but a lot of dark serious stuff too. And I mix things up a bit, or try to.

Devil Squid's origin is simple. Or at least, he thinks it sort of is, at first. He gets abducted, people experiment on him, and then they put him back, no word of why they did it, and for the most part seemingly done with him. Of course, they are watching him, but he doesn't know that nor can he tell. And almost a year passes before they abduct Chaney and Harriet, and almost another year or two before Devil Squid manages to get another bead on them.

One of the reasons for this is that I don't have a real grasp on what the organization is about exactly. The parts of the saga dealing with them are still very foggy.

Another thing, Devil Squid became a hero as a one night thing to do for fun. He only planned to walk around a little bit in his costume, make a few poses, and then leave once the novelty was done.
And then it all went down from there...
