Cool little bit of news. Not quite manga and anime, but it's a Japanese pop culture / fashion magazine being translated by Tokyopop. Though I think they do feature some manga in it sometimes.
Anyway, Tokyopop just announced that they're translating volumes of the publication Gothic Lolita Bible. Nice. Now I'm glad I waited and never got the Japanese editions I see at cons and a local Japanese bookstore (http://www.sasugabooks.com/).

" cos-play fans will be excited to see the “Gothic Lolita Bible” translated in full English "
Lolita is not Cosplay (granted some people do anly wear it at con's), it is fashion, and a way of life. Lolitas dress and act a certain way. they love beautiful and simple things. they are elegant and graceful, and very mindful of the way they act. a lolita is always polite and respectful. it bothers me when someone just writes it off as cosplay when it is nothing of the sort, it is a lifestyle.

Did anyone else get the mental image of moses in a dark-colored, pretty dress when they saw this title?

Well, I think it really depends on how far into it you are. Hell, I think cosplay can be a way of life too if you're into it that much. For some Gothic Lolita is a lifestyle and for others it's just costume play. Plus I'm sure for others it's somewhere in between.
For me, it's a fashion I keep meaning to get into. I guess the whole 'goth' thing in general can be a fashion or a lifestyle. I'm somewhere in between. Though in America, I keep seeing goth style being a lot more punk than the more elegent, well, Elegant Gothic Lolita style I've seen in Japan. That's one thing that really turned me onto the whole Gothic Lolita / Elegant Gothic Lolita fashion.
A friend of a friend is really into it. I IMed her with this news and she was quite happy. She said she already had like 3 volumes, but was going to buy them all in English. She's more into Gothic Lolita than cosplay. (Or maybe more lolita fashion that full gothic lolita. Still they're quite related.) She got my friend into it and I keep meaning to check with them to see what I could make or wear to get into it myself. Though I've heard the male version is called Gothic Aristrocrat. Though I've also heard that's just a specific line.
I was recently in Japan, but we never got to go to Harajuku. Now it's not just Gothic Lolita style there. It's pretty much any fashion under the sun, but Gothic Lolita fans surely show up there. A friend of mine living there and taking classes was going to do a documentary on Harajuku, so I guess I can check it out through him.
