In comic books, dead characters often return from the dead. Could it be that in the world of music retail, we will soon be seeing a similar phenomenon?

Last year, Tower Records folded after forty years as a significant force in the music retail business. Its demise in 2006 seemed to signal the continuing decline of traditional music retail in general. Recently, however, there is word that Tower Records might soon be returning (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/business/news/e3i34a7b870c5e610a128f22b775d00af90).

I find it quite depressing to constantly watch independent/non-mega chain music stores close up shop. With the recent announcement that Toronto's Sam the Record Man flagship store is going under, I have to wonder how many stores can withstand the Wal-Mart/Amazon/iTunes trio.

Taking a quick look at Tower.com, they really need to reduce their prices...

I only know Caiman as the Amazon seller most likely to have the CD I want at the lowest price, but if they can re-open the local Tower and have it stock the same diversity of material, I'm all for them.

I support real stores because I like to have something physical in my hands for the money I payed.

But on the other hand the store I use most often is part of a chain(JB Hi-Fi) because...well frankly independent record stores around here aren't that good.
