View Full Version : Hellboy's Horns?

I sometimes see Hellboy with his horns, but most of the time they look chopped off. I do not know why he has them sometimes, or how he grows them back. In Weird Tales, doesn't some spirit touch him, making them come back, and it angers him? I am quite puzzled.

He cuts them off as a conscious rejection of his "demon" origins, so he can fit in better with the humans. That, and the horns keep ruining the tops of door frames and that annoys other people.

They seem to grow back when Hellboy's "demonic-ness" is activated. Like in Wake the Devil when Hecate sends HB to awaken the Orgdru Jahad, or in Box Full of Evil when that guy summons HB's invisible crown.
Weird Tales isn't cannon (though I really love about half a dozen of those stories), so don't worry about it.

It would probably annoy Hellboy, too.
Which, because I'm sleep-deprived and a bit free-associative, reminds me of one of my very favorite children's books (http://www.powells.com/biblio/037581048x).

Hey, I've seen that book before. I have this mostly finished reindeer mask that I started on a year or two ago, but I made it with the unfortunate design flaw that the antlers are awfully large, and indeed, they also get knocked around in door frames. It's annoying, and I spent a LOT of time on that mask, too. I am still planning on finishing it....eventally.
