What I find suprising is that VH1 put this song on the list of Most Awesomely Bad Love Songs. But I kind of think it has it's own charm (in a sleazy retro sort of way). So I'm doubting that it belongs on the list with the likes of "Come Baby Come", "Come on Ride a Train", and "Freakin' You". What do you think?

I like it. Its cheesy as, but what isn't when Tom Jones is involved? Thats a big part of his charm!
I think that it is actually a pretty good lounge version of the song.
Cheesy, but in that good way.
Jones normally does a great job on covers of modern songs though.
Personally, I'm a big fan of duet he did with the Cardigans on the old Talking Heads song, Burning Down the House (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Vh3SmpAcVg).
VH-1 is hardly the music authority in the place...

I'm from the Philippines and remember how popular this song was over the airwaves. It even spawned a group of dancers that became famous for simply dancing to this song on a popular noontime show. Also, this song partly spawned a craze for novelty dance songs heavy on double entendre and sexual innuendoes which were promoted groups of dancers.

Never thought about it like that, but come to think of it, Tom Jones should be brought to the Philippines and shot.

Hey, are you also from the Philippines? I'm quite surprised that there was someone that knew what I was talking about. Anyway, there are some songs on his repertoire that are pretty memorable to the baby boomers and yuppies over here (e.g."It's Not Unusual" & his rather catchy cover of Prince's "Kiss") so getting him shot for just ONE annoying dance hit of nine years ago may not fly. Although, the people who capitalized on it can lined up in a firing squad and shot down like flies :evilsmile

You answered your own question. It's on the list of Most Awesomely Bad Love Songs because it's sleazy-retro and charming.
One of my favorite moments in all of TV was when Homer mixed up Maggie's lullaby tape with a tape of Sex Bomb. Cut to adorable and precocious Maggie busting one hell of a move to the song. I know it's sort of wrong, but for a baby, she knows her stuff :)
