So I think I'll take one. :D
My wife and I are heading out tomorrow to go to visit some friends (actually my ex brother-in-law and his wife) in the Fort Worth area for a week. This is going to be some desperately needed time off.
You see, beginning the weekend of June 8, and every freakin' weekend thereafter through June, I'll be driving back and forth from the Chicago area to the St. Louis area. My mother-in-law is moving to be closer to us, so my wife and I will be helping to pack and then move the end of June. Then in July we deal with selling her house.... and more driving. Oy.
Is it 2008 yet...? :o

I remember when my family moved outta Cleveland, my parents talked about how our vacation was just beginning ... when I asked when it was gunna end, they said never hehe!
So, ya know, there's worse places than St. Louis!
I'm starting my own vacation ... shorter hours at work, now that the new meat is starting there! They can take MY place now hehe ... Maybe I can spend more time with the kids at pediatrics now!

What part?
She lives in the St. Charles part of St. Louis. It's literally 300 miles from my door to her's, actually 299.7 to be exact. The way I drive, 4 and half hours. ;)
The pain is trying to set up bank account, ComEd, etc. Thankfully, she signed the lease to her apartment, so that's done. And when she moves, she'll be about 5-10 minutes away. So my wife is happy then.
But every weekend..... I say again, oy.

St. Charles, huh?
That means you'll have to go past the airport, BOTH ways!
You're so screwed. :p
And this is why moving companies make a fortune(they earn it, too).

I'm reminded of a song from the very fun show "Pump Boys and Dinettes" which is set at a gas station and adjacent coffee shop on the highway halfway between Frog Level and Smyna.
One of the waitresses, Rhetta Cupp, sings..
I need a vacation
Like nobody's business
I need a vacation
From more of the same old thing
If I could only do something different somewhere else
What a joy, a mighty joy, it would bring
My dogs are plumb wore out
The back of my neck is like a cable
A nice big bruise is turning saffron
From where I slammed into that table
I can't pour the coffee straight
The next thing you know
I'll be dropping a plate
There's no one's face I like
I'm disaster waiting to strike
I need a vacation...

Nah. Not going past both. ;) In Chicago I'm west of one and south of the other.
And I AM the moving company.... since I'm renting the truck and driving it.

I meant the airport in St.Louis.
It's right on highway70, heading into St. Charles.
Unless you know the back way short cuts; there are NO easy ways to avoid it.
If your Mom-in-law knows the area well enough, she might be able to send you up on 370 into St. Charles, but it's pretty easy to get lost going that way.
There IS a great comic shop out there, though, if you need to get away from the drudgery while you're in town. :D

And GEE, upcoming in JUNE:
Back Issue Sale Fri-Sun Jun 29- Jul 1st
At St. Charles. Once again, out come the warehouse comics.
Friday books are 50¢ each, Saturday they're 35¢, while Sunday it's only 25¢.
We'll have plenty of Graphic Novels and Trade Paper Backs on at 75% off.
I SO loaded up last year, filled in my JSA run, and grabbed all kinds of stuff that I couldn't afford or find before.

I wish I would have time to think about visiting a comics shop while there. ;)
Seriously though, I've driven that stretch of I-55 to 270 to 70 MANY times.... By the end of June, I could probably do it in my sleep. :D
