View Full Version : How I would retcon current Wolverine "Evolution" nonsense

Who ever Romulus is, he may be a member of the species Canis Sapien Superior, maybe the last one. And with the extinction of his people/species, he is trying to reestablish his "pack", using feral Homo Sapien Superior mutants and like-wise mutated humans (Sasquatch, who was powered by the Great Beast Tanaraq) to follow in him. Not so much fulll telepathy but a "pack controlling" type of pheromone / memory altering / "telepathy on an animal level". We have seen something akin to this in the Purple Man, the mutant acolyte Spoor, and Mandrill, who can semi-telepathically control any female who smells his pheromones.

Since Romulus is linked to his pack, Romulus can also retain their memories and wisdom they have gained, thereby making the pact truly "act as one", almost a hive mind. And what better way to turn free-willed feral individuals into your pack think of you as their leader if they "remember" you being their alpha-dog pack leader. By imprinting the memories of his pack on Wolvie and the gang, Romulus can them get them to bend to his will as the pack leader, instead of independent willful humans.

Anyhow, Wolverine (in some meditative state to either control or unleash his full berserker-animal side) begins to develop a defense against it as his body/mind heal the manipulation brought on by Romulus. He shuts off his sense of smell or hacks his nose off and procedes to go mano-a-mano with Romulus, and only wins because of help from the rest of the "pack".

On a tangent, the true Canis Sapien Superior should be the Hunter in Darkness and his pack, not Romulus.

How do you retcon a story that's not finished? How about we wait till Loeb is done?

1) Recognize a stinky baby-diaper that has assumed the shape of a loved comic book hero and comic

2) Slap forehead in dismay

3) Flush stinky diaper crap - or - place in round receptable

4) **Figure out a way to solve this mess and give actual future "Wolverine" writers who may read this board an idea how to clean up said mess by writing plausible FanBoy Story based on existing Marvel Universe rules that don't sound like cheap "Superboy-Prime punches" retcons while still retaining impact and bad-ass'ness Romulus does seem to carry.

5) Hope Loeb changes his mind (not likely) and salvages the story

6) forget it ever happened just like I'm trying to forget the Spiderman "Sins Past" nonsense.

7) See step #1

Wolverine suddenly wakes up with a beer next to him on a table with a cigar in one hand that drops ashes on his hand. Wolverine says "WTF. That is the worst hangover I ever had." End retcon. :p

That Wolvie and Creed may be Canis Sapien Superior, I can dig.
Wolf clan vs. Bear clan.

It's been hinted at since future-based "Earth X" graphic novels as well as other references, but to have them pull it out of the ground now, and that there are a lot more of them beyond the Hunter in Darkness, Maximillan Lobo and other "Lupine" related creatures. I can even believe a refence to Man-Wolf / StarGod or the Egyptian God Anubis being part of the pack.

But not all the fans are going to buy it, and it doesn't feel like a progression of a story, but more of trying to force a concept down the readers throats with stuff that has never been hinted at in the actual Wolverine comics. Wolvie's time with Apocalypse as Death alone would've alerted Apocalypse of Canis Sapien. It all came out of nowhere. Maybe if Weapon X was trying to create the Team X with Maverick, Silver Fox, Sabretooth, Wolverine, Mastodon, the Native and Wild Child because of a hidden trait that they are descendants of the Lupine clan.... then I could believe it.

Again, its forced and needs to be retconned to smooth over the changes.

If there's anything I've learned from DC, it's that if you let Superboy punch something, everything gets fixed. Let him slap Logan around for a bit; that should set things right. Or at least amuse me for a while.

Personally, I'm building up a whole catalogue of things which I put down to the Scarlet Witch going mad; Xorneto, Daken, the behavior of various characters during Civil War, the Gwen Stacy/Norman Osborne thing. The way I look at it, all these things involve people the Scarlet Witch was close to or people having children they never realised they had - which fits in with her losing her children. This way I am able to happily ignore the crappiest bits of Marvel continuety over the last few years. :D

I've read this thread twice and still have no idea what the hell you people are talking about, so I'm going to treat this the same way I would anything that apparently occurs in Wolverine's solo book- assume it never happened and pray none of it leaks into the main books.

Sorry, but I just don't think it's that bad. In fact, I think the idea has potential and am interested in seeing how Loeb finishes this arc out.

Does that make me less of a Wolverine fan somehow (since most of his fans seem to hate this arc)?

Okay but this does open up interesting possibilities like for instance does this mean that Toad, Beast, Angel, and any other animal based mutuant or super-hero or also members of humans who evolved from different animals and then whe there mutantions occured their features also emereged?
If this is the case then this is very intersting for Beast since he was at first a Gorillia then later mutated into a Feline based mutuant.

I mean this could be worse they could be tying Wolverine to that whole totem thing..........
Wait that's it I think I just found my next Marvel pitch...........

End retcon. :pWorks for me! :) Seriously, it could all be retconned as a lie in the future, part of someone's plan to skrew with Logan's head (as oposed to Loeb skrewing the character, period).

Yeah but the problem with this is that it makes no sense. The X-Men allways had an interesting concept based on Evolution. They are the next step in human evolution, developing new capabilities that we don't have. This, as a concept, it's just dumb!

I liked it more when Millar picked up CC's dropped storylines. :(

If it is so bad (Not read the arc), wouldn't it be better to just......not mention it?
