Geoff Johns just announced on his boards that he plans to stay on Booster Gold indeffinitely. He was originally only supposed to be on for 6 issues, but he had so much fun he coplotted up until issue 18 and plans to stay longer.
Feel alot better about this book lasting for a while

Prediction: Decent opening sales of about 50,000 or so, followed by a 20-30% drop by the second issue, and a steady decline until it gets axed around, oh, say, issue 18 or so.

No way. With Johns on the book and Booster's current momentum, my prediction is Top 50 seller.

That would have been my prediction but with Johns on board it will probably go a lot further.

What a waste. He should concentrate on other things.
I find I enjoy Johns' work a lot more when he's with a co-writer. So him working with a co-writer that was another reason I was interested in this Booster Gold book. I hope both of them are on for the long haul.

Johns is the s***, people. Everything he writes is good. His worst book was the Infinite Crisis mini-series. Everything else has been very strong. Loved, loved, loved his Hawkman. Booster's not my favorite character but I'll be picking this up on the strength of Johns' writing.

I didn't know that he was only going to do 6 issues but I think Geoff does better with the ongoings than the limited run stuff since he constantly ramps up his game late artists not withstanding.

I don't know if even John's can carry the lameness that is Booster Gold.
He should be made to permanently write Teen Titans :)

So glad to hear this. I knew I would be getting this series because of Johns' initial involvement, but now that he's going to be staying with it long term, I feel it will be that much more worth my investment of picking it up from the get-go. While Johns misteps every now and again, I can't think of one thing of his I've read that has consistently turned me off. Along with Simone, he's one of my absolute faves over at DC.
Booster Gold is going to rock, people!

I think Booster Gold should sell reasonably well as an ongoing series. Booster has the advantage that a lot of us thirtysomethings have fond memories of his time in Giffen and DeMatteis' JLI/A book and he was a key player in 52, so I can't see the book failing, sales-wise. I'm stoked that Johns is writing the book and doubly stoked that BG creator Dan Jurgens pencils it!

The co-writer is Jeff Katz. He hasn't done many comics before (think he wrote a mini for Image). He is a big time movie exec at New Line and is apparently a huge fan of Giffen's JLI.
The artist is Dan Jurgens, the guy who created Booster Gold.

I think Geoff's a good writer, which is obviously important, but even more significantly, his presence should give the book a pretty fair chance at becoming a success.

Historically, his best work shines when he isn't burden by bigger projects. There was a point in time when he was writing The Flash, Hawkman, JSA, Avengers, and a mini-series for The Thing... all at once. And all of them were good. The minute he's dragged into something big like Infinite Crisis or 52, though, it seems like his other books suffer, which is why I wasn't very impressed by his work over the past two or three years, when before I thought he could do no wrong.
Hopefully now that he's out of the big event writing circle, he'll be able to keep his game. So far, Justice Society has been a hit, and given the amazing things done for Booster Gold's character in 52, I don't see how they could possibly !@#$ up this book.

And that's the big if. I used to love Jurgens' art, but since he became more of a full time writer, it just hasn't been the same.

I'd much rather Jurgens as co-writer.
Oddly enough, while the original series was pretty much fluff, it was enjoyable, well-written fluff, which took a character who seemed pretty two-dimensional and shallow (every writer since the original series cancellation has pretty much written him that way) and used him to write some pretty well-crafted stories.

I couldn't be happier. Johns and Jurgens together on a Booster Gold book is music to my ears.
But then, I loved Infinite Crisis as well.

Very curious to see what this book is like. I just hope it doesn't visit different teams every issue and we get a book about Booster Gold, not Booster Gold and the JSA, Booster Gold and the Teen Titans, Booster Gold and the JLA, or the Outsiders etc.

Im very nervous about this book.
I love Booster more than any other character in comics, but from what I hear Jones say, is this going to be some kind of "Exiles" style book?
I'll be heartbroken if I don't love this book. I'm very anxious...

Imho, this is a "revamp" done right. Unlike books such as Atom/Firestorm, by not replacing Booster Gold, DC is able to have a new book which will bring in his old fans from the 90's as well as the new ones he has from 52.
You'll draw in some of the fanbases from all of the Booster/JLI/52 group and if the book is good, I think it will have a healthy retention.

Bad news Geordie and Booster Bronze -
I believe this is exactly what we're going to get. An Exiles style book where Booster travels through time and/or the multiverse.
SPOILERS:
Storylines that have been revealed already include a story where Booster has to team up with Sinestro back when he was still a member of the Green Lantern Corps. Also, a story where Booster teams up with Jonah Hex in the wild, wild west.
This sounds like fun to me. Why does it turn you off?

I still think my Daniel Carter is... Lost in Time pitch would've kicked ass. Superpowered hero bouncing around time? That's cool. Completely powerless kid getting kicked all over the timestream, trying to survive? That's cool as !@#$.

Good luck to him.
I think writing for a B character like Booster Gold is going to be a tremendous challenge. Johns does have the skill to pull it off, but I think it will be hard even for someone as talented as he.

What a waste. He should concentrate on other things.
Dude, he can and does concentrate on 10 books a month.
Besides, since 52 #52 this BOOSTER GOLD ongoing is an infinitely more interesting series (to me at least).

Okay, so we have Johns, using the same sensitivity and craft he employed in Infinite Crisis hopping from world to world and defining the new DC Multiverse.
Pass.
