hey everyone
it's me again.i notice alot of women in anime are weaker then the males. but the evil women are not so weak.and shows like sailor moon they need tuxedo mask's help or their weak alone.i was hoping to change that for my dark hood story.and was hoping anyone had any ideas for my super heroine, crimson. at first crimson was going to be dark hood side kick but throught she should do solo jobs and sometimes team up with him.
well talk to you later.

Grenadier has a strong women as it's lead character.
Elfen Lied too, though granted Lucy is a psycho, but it still goes.
The Witchblade anime is a good one if you can find it.
Ikkitousen, if you can get past the perversion, has TONS of strong females in it.

Check Slayers sometime and do yourself a favor. Lina Inverse FTW.

Also, no male in Saber Marionette J can even compare to its females in strenght and power, at all.

And honestly, it's not like Tuxedo Mask is so needed by the Senshi. Most of what he does in a battle is just to throw a rose down, give Sailor Moon a sappy cheering up, and then he lets her to kill the monster with her own power. Her dependence on him is more psychological than anything else.

In Noir, the three main girls (Mireille, Kirika, and Chloe) eat the guys for breakfast. In Gunslinger Girl, the guys are just sidekicks to the girls (Henrietta, Triela, Rico, Angelica, and Claes), even though the girls in GG look to be only 10-11 years old. ;) P.S. Both these series are "girls with guns" series.

Elfien lied- deffinitily, she's not that psycho...
Kino- again, yes (also look at Kinos' Journey, it's basicaly the same thing only in Anime form)
Appleseed- it had a fairly decent female lead
Aeonflux(the animation)- same
Cowboy Bebop - though a semi-minor character, Fae(sp?) makes a strong female example
GITS- very good example

Sweet Merciful Freya!
I´ve just watched one episode of Ikkitousen and I have to confess I have never giggled so much watching a show before.

Fan Service doesn´t do the word justice, it reaches such unbelievable heights I truly believe a new term should be created for it.

I´ve seen as much anime as the next guy and I tell you, no show (not even hentai ones) has ever come this close to depicting so many close-up slow-mo panties shots in succession.
Bam! From every conceivable angle!

I have officially found the show that can dethrone Najica as The King (Queen?) of Fan Service.

Nope, just haven't gotten the chance to show off as much. Yachiru is alluded to be scarily powerful but hasn't gotten much spotlight yet. Ururu beat the crap out of one of the Espada, Linda of the Vaizards is supposedly one of the most powerful next to Shinji, Orihime is a walking plot-device with godlike healing powers, and Rukia's already killed two of the Arrancar with her Shikai alone. Adult Nell Tu at this time is the one of the strongest characters in Bleach right now.

I would also like to add Tokiko from Buso Renkin to the list.

Not at first, but she gets there. She has definitive bad ass moments in her final fight with Fate, her second fight with Vita, and the long, final struggle in Nanoha A's.

And she has *numerous* bad ass moments as an adult in Striker S.

Young Nanoha is a bit like Rocky, actually. She tends to lose the first encounter, but she's deadly in a re-match!

You know, that is very true. I can't really think of a strong female from a current movie or TV show (not to say their not out there, but thought fails me right now) and I can think of quite a few for anime, both current and past

I agree that there are many strong female characters in anime but the frail, meek, submissive DIDs still have them beat by the hundreds.

Silent Moebius is almost a complete cast of all strong female characters. Also several of Miyazaki's movies have strong female leads, and if they don't start out strong they eventually get there.

I realize that this is a month's old post but...were Yoruichi and Soifon involved in the current arc, it'd probably be done a while ago.

I don't know if Raki is meant to be the core of a flipped archetype or a feminist parable or whatever, but that kid is...argh.

I don´t mind the kid per se since he provides us with a human perspective of the Claymores but -Good God!, could he tone the whining down a notch?

If nobody mentioned it yet, Seirei no Moribito is not only a gorgeous masterpiece but it also has Balsa who does great transitions between strong and kind.
AND she´s actually an adult woman, something unusual in a medium overcrowded with 13 years old girls.

Case in point, the kid has enough guts and loyalty for ten.

Yeesh, is he supposed to be this decade's Shinji in terms of abuse for being less than emotionally invincible? Clare was even worse when she started out.

Well, tagalong kids don't tend to be well-liked in general. And there seemed to be a persistent fear that he'd end up being made into a bad-ass Mary Sue who'd end up saving Clare and the others all the time.

this reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I know that she was SUPPOSED to be this strong, capable female lead... but for whatever physical strength she had--emotionally she was a frustrating weakling. of course, when Joss Whedon was writing her character she was more consistent (and admirable). by the end of the TV show Buffy was kind despicable.

in the west, it seems like "strong" is taken perhaps too literally.

I don't like all of my characters 'strong' either. sometimes a weak-willed and indecisive character can be so strongly characterized that they work. like Kyoko Otonashi or Yusaku Godai. ;)

it's important to not have our desired 'role models' stand in the way of writing good characters. and lets face it, we can't have too many 'strong women' in any genre because--we don't have THAT many strong people in real life!

not saying there shouldn't be more female characters who aren't doormats... just throwing that out as a suggestion.

"Blue" from "Wolf's Rain" was an extreemly strong and street-smart female leading character.
She was half wolf and half dog, so she had to deal with that, among other things.
