Just read the novelisation of The Death & Life of Superman and I suddenly realised.. Dubbilex the DNAlien seems to have vanished from the face of the Earth.. For that matter so does The Guardian..

What happened? Crisis victims or did DC just decide to let them slide?

Last time I think anyone saw Dubbilex was toward the end of the Superboy series. Don't think he's shown up since then.

Dubbilex was in a lot of the early Superboy series, but they used him very little towards the end, and eventually he limboed out. Haven't seen him anywhere, or even mentioned anywhere, since.

The Guardian became involved in Morrison's Seven Soldiers of Victory project. I dunno what happened to the previous Guardian (Jim Harper?), the News Boy Legion, Cadmus, Dubbilex or any of that stuff.

Those were fun ideas that I'd be all far seeing return to the Superman books.

Yeah, Dubbilex, Guardian, and Cadmus went the way of all of Superman's 90's supporting cast (including Bibbo, Gangbuster, Scorn, etc, etc).

As much as I kinda liked some of them, I can't argue with DC's decision to leave them in the past. For a government-sponsored monster-making facility, Cadmus was quite often painfully boring. If the Superman writers want to spend their time further developing the A-list like Lois, Jimmy, and Perry, I'm all for it.

You've got that right. I hated all that time Dubilex/Cadmus/Newsboy Legion/Guardian were given in the Superman books. I found the whole lot of them dull as dishwater

I personally liked Dubbilex.. Sort of a poor man's J'onn..

Guardian was good too, though the Newsboy Legion could have been blasted into space for all I cared..

I seem to be developing a soft spot for 'lesser powered' heroes.. I would rather have a short ranged telepath like Dubbilex rather than the world spanning abilities of MM.

Lesser powered heroes are fine - I just prefer them not to be boring farts

Well, you can only blame the writers ;)
