This 2-page article was in the July issue of Toyfare magazine.
As a customizer myself, I can tell you that I don't think his selection of figures for the base is really that important here as most of it is being sculpted over. You could probably use a number of Marvel Legends figures for this. The removable head is a nice touch. It would have been even better if it actually screwed in!

These have been posted here before, but I tohught I'd post them again because it's related:
Mignola Batman by Iron Cow (http://www.ironcowprod.com/plastic/angst/batman_mignola/figure.html)
Mignola Rocketeer by Iron Cow (http://www.ironcowprod.com/plastic/angst/rocketeer_mignola/figure.html)

God, and you had me right up to the point where I saw the ASOH figure's face. This just illustrates how important something like a face is- even for a pseudo robot character. IMHO his guy's lips are just too broad and wrong looking. That's not to discount the effort overall, as there is some nice detail work on the body, but the face is what destroys the Mignola illusion for me.

Wow, that's surprisingly good.
I'll have to hold onto that tutorial for future reference. I agree that the head is a little goofy, though.

That Mignola Rocketeer figure is fantastic. It's so good that only do I wish I could own the figure, but now I can't stop imagining a Rocketeer mini by Mike. Well played, Iron Cow. Very well played indeed...

Neil, I agree with you about the face. When I make this myself I'm going to make it a cross between Iron Cow's and mine from the bust I made sometime ago (http://farm1.static.flickr.com/45/117362726_c6e3f75310_m.jpg). I like the one I did but it doesn't match the art as well as I'd like. Iron Cow's is closer but has some problems. I'll give him credit for matching the Mezco style so well though.
But the turtorial is useful for the body and everything else. Just the face needs a little bit of tinkering. It's close, just not perfect.
Cool nonetheless.

Glad to hear it, Dannyboy! I'd love to see the picks once everything is complete, btw.

Yeah, I've been out of the customizing game for a few years but I'm feeling inspired to make a few of them again. Right now this is my list:
"The Doom That Came to Gotham" Batman using a LoJo base
"Dead" Roger w/ tombstone. I have a gourney from an old X-Files figure that is perfect for this.
"Vintage" LoJo (from Weird Tales)
ASoH
When I get started I'll be sure to post some pictures.

Ooh, that rocks a lot.
As would a Mignola Starman figure. Mmmmmm. Hey customizers, anyone want to swap for some really nice custom wirework or a stack o' comics?
