i rememeber before IC started, pretty much most books have a bearing to the story of IC. with countdown, it seems a new crisis is brewing. i wouldn't want to be backtracking as i did before with IC. so id like to get a head start with countdown. what are the books or arcs i should be reading with countdown and the upcoming crisis? ( i hope DC addresses this soon)

None. There are no mini-series that lead into this, but there will be mini-series that spin out of it, like Countdown to Adventure. For the most part, it's standalone, but from what I've seen, it relies heavily on the reader knowing a lot about the DCU. Also, at least twice, it's intersected with two ongoings. First, the Karate Kid fight scene in Justice League and the Rogues gathering before their showdown with Bart in this week's Flash.

Yeah, don't worry, they'll walk you through it. Even at the expense of their loyal readers who get complete scenes duplicated in two different books. Yay.

Nah. They tie in but they shouldn't be essential.
