View Full Version : Why doesn't X-Factor have a cover-box like the other X-titles?

I love how I can easily spot X-titles on the rack by their nifty cover box -[you know the one, with the team's head shots, and the title and chapter of the current story arc].

While I realize X-Factor doesn't always have a story arc occuring, we have had 2 or 3 arcs occuring throughout the title's history, and the begining of each arc makes a great place for new readers to try out the book for a few issues to see if they like it.

I hate having random issues of a book in my comic collection- they feel scattered and my money kinda wasted. But if I can collect a complete story arc, it makes me feel like my collection is complete. I'm sure I'm other people think the same way.

I recently started reading New X-men because of the Search for Illyana storyline. I'm not sure if I'll continue reading the book at the conclusion of the tale, YET. But I can tell you, I would not have picked up the book had I not known there would be a finite ending to the story I started reading.

Only X-Men, Uncanny X-Men and New X-Men currently have those boxes.

New Excalibur, Exiles, X-Factor, Cable & Deadpool and Astonishing X-Men don't.

I don't know who has the say on that, but that's the way it is.

I'm hoping it spreads to Astonishing, X-Factor, NEX, and Exiles. Love the nostalgia. :)

Why doesnt X-facotr have a Cover-box like the other X-titles?

Because Wolfsbane's wolf head only looks stupid when its on her body.

I wouldn't mind it spreading. It does kind of give the X-Titles their own unique look. But as for 'part whatever of part whatever' I don't like the concept of setting story arcs in stone. It makes for some bad writing. What does it matter how many parts a story has on an ongoing series, anyway?

What is the deal with thise little boxes anyway? I know the new ones have the arc title on them but in olden times it was just headshots. What's up with that?

writing your question in the letters column to PAD might get your answer...

it could be that since X-Fac has a definitive cast, while say X-Men is more geared toward shifting faces & cast members, they don't use the team face shots box to immediately broadcast to readers who's on the team. Or it could contrast with the dark noir feel PAD sometimes goes after

i like the team face shots box concept though...they're great. i love the ones on the old x-men & new mutants covers

When PAD does write story arc, like the current X-cell story, it could be used to attract new readers, or readers who just want to pick up a few issues to get a feel for what they are missing. When there is no story arc, the box can just be used to highlight the current members. Like people here seem to agree- its just so frickin cool looking! It reminds me of the 80's and early 90's.

If they did use it, I would demand an issue where the box is filled with nothing but Jamie heads.

If you buy New X-men, X-men or Uncanny X-men, they have the team's faces and the title of the Arc.

This just in: X-Factor #18 will be sold with a poly-box. Boxed in with the issue will be a limited edition holgraphix collector card that will have no monetary value, is part of no collectors set, and it will be illustrated by some artist you have never heard of. Be sure not to miss it!

I don't like them myself. I dunno, it just feels too nostalgic for the sake of it. They're not too big though (X-Men doesn't even feature all the characters), so I can deal with them :)

As for X-Factor, could it be because the characters aren't as distinguishable from a tiny head? X-Factor quite clearly shows Rogue, Cable, Mystique, Iceman, Sabretooth and Cannonball, but X-Factor is generally just people. I suppose Strong Guy and a changed Wolfsbane aren't, but otherwise what clearly says that one guy is Rictor, another is Madrox and so on? X-Factor isn't really big on distingishable marks or costume pieces on the head.
