While at the conventions I do a lot of sketches that don't see print anywhere! They are drawn on the spot and whisked away to a private collection. I love it that these pieces are given a loving home, but they also need to be shared and enjoyed by everyone!
THAT'S WHAT THIS POST IS ALL ABOUT!
Every two weeks I"ll update the link below to display a different convention drawing! If you have one of my convention sketches, or even a full blown commission, send me a scan and I'll be sure share!

O.K. Gang.. this sketch update has a bit of a twist... As a lot of you know the Pittsburgh Comicon is well known for it's charity art auction to benefit the Make a Wish Foundation for Children. Michael and Renee George who put on the convention and run the auction themselves generated $28,000 for the cause! WAY TO GO GANG!

The piece pictured below was my offering for the auction. ( Who doesn't love Spider-man ?) Being the art lover that I am, I decided to attend the auction myself, then something happened during the selling of my piece. Though I had donated a black and white piece I told the auctioneer that the high bidder could bring the piece to my table the next day and I would COLOR it as well! There was only one catch.. I had only brought watercolors to the show and the original piece had a lot of gouache white paint on it ( which would run all over the place if it got wet! ) The collectors continued to bid after I shot my big mouth off saying that I would color this piece! I didn't know what to do!

Thankfully my ol' buddy Chris Moreno ( http://www.chrismoreno.net ) had been doing some great work at the show with some really nice soft SOFT colored pencils. He agreed to let be barrow the set for part of the show the next day and the result is one of my favorite convention pieces of the year! I've posted pics of the piece in its original B/W state and also after being colored! ( Thanks Chris for saving my neck again!, and thanks Giles for placing the winning bid!)

Awesome, awesome, awesome piece. There's so much character in this piece and the added colors just make it shine. Great work!
