View Full Version : X-Crescence LII: Lonesome Day Blues

Welcome to X-Crescence, which is from the word excrescence, which is defined as "An outgrowth or enlargement, especially an abnormal one, such as a wart."
Well, this is an outgrowth from the X-Boards proper.
This is where you pretty much can post whatever you want.
Civility rules apply here!
Enjoy.

Is this that crazy one you were complainin about a while back?
Geek; I just read that bit on yahoo about spoilers. When I started reading comics again 2 years ago (damn, it's been 2 years already! Holy shit!), I was all about the spoilers, I was just so jacked up to know what the fuck was gonna happen that I always read the spoiler threads before I picked up my issues... but now I stay the fuck away from them. I've found I like reading it myself much more. Sometimes I can't resist, but most of the time I just avoid those threads and I don't go all spastic about people accidently spoiling shit though either... unlike some people. *Coughmelonhead-FuryCough*

but then i remembered that comics were in my life a lot longer than the internet and boards like this...Yeah, I kinda miss the days as a kid when the only form of "spoilerish" material was when I read Wizard. That magazine used to be great, but now with the internet, it's kinda become obsolete.
LOL then it is him.
He's always been really shit at remembering things so I'm used to it and can kinda forgive him but on the other hand just dropping off the map for months on end is fucking annoying.Yeah, I have friends like that. Then again, in some ways I'm one of those people too, I just do my thing.
Get used to it though, that's typically the way things go as you get older, everyone gets involved in their own shit so certain friendships take a backseat.
I check Facebook to remind me of how much I dislike most of the people I was at school with and to remind me of how much I actually like the people I've met since.Exactly, there are only a handful of old friends from highschool that I keep in touch with and that's only every couple weeks or months. Since I've gotten out of school I've made a lot of friends that I have more in common with than the friends from highschool, so I have a tendency to keep in touch with them more than the old ones.

You like Harry Potter? No more buttsecks for you. Fuck yeah. At first I was like, "this shits just a cheap rip-off of better fantasy works.", then I actually watched the movies (and now reading the books) and I've realized that even though Rowling has borrowed ideas from other writers, she's really taken those things and made them her own, at the same time expanding on them. It's actually really good shit, if not for a little juvenile, but the books were written to be accessible to all ages, so that's fine. Besides, I'm basically a big kid anyways, so it doesn't bother me.

Pretty good. Came home Monday, has been sleeping a lot since he got maybe 18 hours total in the whole week at the hospital. I'm gonna head back in about 2 weeks or so for a couple days. Told my parents bout the engagement ring I got for Em. They were both pretty happy, now I just gotta go do the old fashion thing and ask her dad for permission. Which I should be able to do sometime around July.
As for the Harry Potter stuff, I've seen the movies and their entertaining but I just can't get into it. Although the trailer for the next one seemed kinda cool. That trailer and the Pirates 3 trailer were the best things I saw during the Spider-Man 3 movie.

I love Byrne's old X-work and I feel that it stands the test of time, but his more recent stuff, it's like he's taken cue's from old-school Kirby work that has dated it worse than his 70's work.

There is a greyhound station in downtown Knoxville. They should do service to Gatlinburg. If you have a car just take Henley St. and travel East. It'll turn into 441 and bring you right up to Gatlinburg. Henley St. is the first street you come to when you travel down Cumberland Ave.

They had their opinion, it didn't mesh well with majority right leaning fan base they had. So folks stopped buying and listening to their music. I don't see anything wrong w/ that.
As for them being right, that's a matter of opinion.

I'm hypothetically stuck in Knoxville, I have friends that are going to work in Gatlinburg and I thought I'd go visit them since it has to be cheaper than going to Peru to visit them. For real honest though. It's pretty wack to assume you have to be a god-fearing republican to be a country artist.
I'm not saying the country stations who participated were right, imo they should have kept playing them, but they were privately owned stations and they made their choice.

They had their opinion, it didn't mesh well with majority right leaning fan base they had. So folks stopped buying and listening to their music. I don't see anything wrong w/ that.
They didn't just stop buying their music. There was a violent backlash. People burned the CDs, boycotted them, and even fellow country singers (the lame-ass Toby Keith) criticized them. Seriously, what hypocrisy! They exercised their right to question and criticize the government. What they did was utterly American. The response was utterly unAmerican.
As for them being right, that's a matter of opinion.
Is it? At this point, I'd say it's the best, most informed opinion. Anyone still supporting Bush...well, anyone still supporting Bush needs to go fight his goddamn oil war for him, so the rest of us can get on with our lives.

How was the response unAmerican? They have the right to protest, just the same as the Dixie Chicks were using their right to protest the government. No different. It isn't considered wrong to burn an American flag is it? People doing that don't get criticized half as badly as the folks who did the stuff to the Dixie Chicks. I find it hypocritical to say what the Dixie Chicks did was American but the protesting wasn't.
As for the "anyone still supporting Bush" comment I'm not gonna touch. But I'm not sure how we can call it an oil war anymore when we have gas prices up to $3.50 in some parts of the country.

Are they all that drastically different? So far I've noticed very few significant differences in the first book and my brother said there's very few in Chamber of Secrets, do they go that far off in Azkaban and Goblet?
With the exception of a couple small moments in classrooms and some cute jokes here and there, the first movie leaves nothing out. The same is basically true about the second movie. Those two had very manageable texts when it came time to adapt the movies.
The Prisoner of Azkaban movie leaves out quite a bit. Nothing devastatingly important but quite a bit of stuff that adds to the book and adds to future books.
The Goblet of Fire movie drops almost half of the book. Long scenes are trimmed severely, enture subplots completely left out.
As for book 6 sucking, I liked it but basically it is one really long set up for Book 7, so I get the complaints.

Gotcha, I figured the later ones would suffer from things being cut, but that's to be expected. Those books are much longer and the movies need to be accessible to kids as well, a 3+ hour LOTR style movie wouldn't be that great for the kiddies. As long as they don't drastically change the story, I don't have problems with omissions or small changes.

Are we talking about shoes? Cause I own LOADS of shoes! My BFF is always laughing at me because I have more shoes than she does.
I don't think i should respond to Michael Pullman again but it seems to me it really wouldn't have mattered how i designed the character since "wizards with swords are interchangable".

Man.... CBS has some stupid TV shows coming this fall. The stupidest...
Wednesday: 10-11 p.m. "KID NATION" - A reality-based series in which 40 kids will have 40 days to build a new world - in a ghost town that died in the 19th Century. These kids, ages 8-15, will spend more than a month without their parents or modern comforts in Bonanza City, N.M., attempting to do what their forefathers could not - build a town that works. They will cook their own meals, clean their own outhouses, haul their own water and even run their own businesses - including the old town saloon (root beer only). They'll also create a real government - four kid leaders who will guide the group through their adventure, pass laws and set bedtimes. Through it all, they'll cope with regular childhood emotions and situations: homesickness, peer pressure and the urge to break every rule they've ever known. At the end of each episode, all 40 kids will gather at an old fashioned Town Hall meeting where they will debate the issues facing Bonanza City. They'll show wisdom beyond their years and the unflinching candor that only kids can exhibit. There are no eliminations on KID NATION - you only go home if you want to.
This sounds good however.
Friday: 9-10 p.m. "MOONLIGHT" - From prolific movie producer Joel Silver. MOONLIGHT is a drama is about Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin), a captivating - but undead - private investigator who uses his acute vampire senses to help the living instead of feeding on them. In an agonizing twist of fate, Mick was bitten and turned 60 years ago by his new bride, the seductive and beguiling Coraline (Amber Valletta). Immortal and handsome and charismatic as he was then, Mick is sickened by Coraline and other vampires who view humans only as a source of nourishment. With only a handful of undead confidantes for company, including the deceitful ally Josef (Rade Serbedzija), Mick fills his infinite days protecting the living and trying not to think about how his life would have been if he hadn't followed his heart. However, after six decades of resisting, he wonders if it's time to pursue the love of a mortal. He has his eyes on Beth Turner, a beautiful, ambitious reporter who has been covering the ongoing plague of unusual murders. But would Beth even consider giving up a normal life to be with him, and can Mick risk the pain of seeing himself as a monster through her eyes?

It would have been worth watching if there had been a few eliminations .. kids thrown off a rock, mauled by bears, stoned to death by their peers.
