Mystery in Space Countdown Connection?

I just got around to reading Mystery in Space 8 of 8 today. A very good ending to a good space mini-series.

However, on the final panel the Weird is seen floating out in space and in the bottom left corner of the panel Orion is seen with the Astro Harness. Does this mean that the events of Mystery in Space and the Weird's eventual return to earth may tie into Countdown?

But if Orion is there, then old darkside planning can't be far behind. :(

I would be very happy to see the Weird return to earth in Countdown he is such an interesting character.
