My wife and I are visiting friends in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in less than 2 weeks (Memorial Day week) and we're looking for places to go, things to do, restaurants to enjoy. The actual area we'll be in is Keller.

Right now, the only definite plans we have is to go to Scarborough Faire (Sunday, May 27th). I really want to go to a place called Speed Zone, though my wife is less than enthused by that.... :D

Oh, and I should point out that even though our friends have lived there for 6+ years, they really haven't done any "touristy" things.

So anyone got some great suggestions for us???? :)

Thanks!

tell her you are stopping in quickly to say hi to some friends. She should understand that.

Odds are, with my luck, she'll want to hit a fabric store then......

Better to keep is simple and away from comics. ;)

There's a World Market, along with a few other stores, in the same shopping center. Just punt her through the door of one of those stores, then go on your merry way to Zeus.

There's also a sushi restaurant in that shopping center, and close by are a lot of other restaurants, so it's not a bad area to go to.

You guys are cracking me up!

Zeus comics...just saying...

You could start here and we could go through all of the tourist-y things to do.

Bodyworks is at the DMA - hella cool. Every out-of-towner usually wants to visit the Book Depository. Scarborough Faire is good.

Ooo...where is Zeus Comics in Dallas? For some reason, I thought it was Austin, not Dallas.

I'm going to be in town from July 10 to July 14. I have got to make a pilgrammage, probably on Wednesday morning. How far is it from downtown Dallas, near the big Hyatt Regency?

ETA: I did the Sixth Floor Museum at the book depository last time I was in town. I thought it was a really well done museum. Chilling but worth seeing.

I'm sure my dad would encourage the trip to Speed Zone and could tell you all about it. Truthfully, most of the people I know who live here can't come up with much touristy stuff to do (aside from what's already been mentioned). Shopping is the true Dallas thing to do. Oh, there's the Fort Worth stockyards, if you like that sort of thing.

And you can't really go wrong with a trip to Zeus. Who knows - your wife might even like it there. :)

Well, while driving around lost @ 2:30 am, we found the zoo.

It looked pretty cool from the outside with the Giant Giraffe statue lit up.

Texas land and cattle Co. for dinner would be good(ask half the people here :) )

They also have the cute old-fashioned trolley(that goes right past the restaurant) that I think is free to ride.

Downtown Dallas is beautiful at night; all the big buildings lit up are pretty cool.

UMMM, oh, YEAH, there's always Zeus comics! ;)

Could be worse. I'd ask to stop at BOTH the comics and fabric stores. Neither of which he could give a damn about. But he will wait in the car for me. ;)

Zeus is on Oak Lawn, in the Turtle Creek shopping center, not far from the big Shriner's children's hospital (love the signage for that hospital). Not far from downtown, and definitely worth a pilgrimage.

Yeah, shouldn't be more than ten minutes away.

Unless you're like me and get lost going the wrong way on a one way street. :o

Main Street Barbeque in Euless will change your life. Half Price Books is the greatest chain of used book stores in the US. Milwaukee Joe's in Bedford or Southlake is the world's best ice cream. Texas Ranger baseball is in a wonderful new stadium in Arlington. The Ranch in Colleyville has amazing Mexican food.

And it is Texas, so it is ALL good.

*sigh* can't believe I will admit this, but not only am I from D/FW, but I am a a graduate of Keller...

You will be closer to Fort Worth than Dallas, by far.
Fort Worth is actually the cultural center of DFW. You have 2 museums, the stockyards and an Amazing Zoo (seriously, Fort Worth Zoo is one of the nicest zoos in the nation).

Been to the Stockyards before, so that's a given. The zoo sounds cool, though I live near one of the best in the country here in the Chicago area (and, no, it ain't Lincoln Park zoo ;) ), but you never know....

Have you ever gone to the Mesquite Rodeo?? It's been decades (read: when I was about 10) since I've been to a rodeo.

And thanks for the help so far, everyone!

In the 16 years I lived in D/FW I somehow managed to miss every rodeo. Doesn't do much for me.

The Fort Worth Zoo has some great and unique exhibits. I try to take people there all the time. :) Its funny, since the Dallas Zoo is a monumental joke.
