Great way to resume the action ! Stressed and without supplies or medicine...lives on the line...and the Guard stretched to the four corners of their world seeking aid !!!
I am also digging on the Geof Darrow Art at the end...
Great job, David !

I picked up two weeks worth of books today and finding the newest Mouse Guard issue waiting was a pleasant surprise.
Is it just me or is the artwork even more detailed and beautiful? Only one complaint and it really seems petty but the calligraphy (calling it lettering doesn't do it justice IMO) in the Journal sections was a bit hard to read. I'm old, I need bigger type. :(

Just read Mice Templar - not terribly impressed. It was choppy in the art and the writing - hard to follow - too many characters to assimilate right off the bat - and I have to say, a bit familliar seeming - a lot happens bit hey it's 50 pages long

Regarding Mice Templar, add me to the "underwhelmed" column. For me it was a matter of trying to do too much, too soon storywise without enough background to set-up that story.
But we've derailed the thread enough already. :D

I think it's okay to like Mouse Guard more than The Mice Templar but we shouldn't really be pitting them against each other or slagging.
On a side note; Morna and I were just in Vancouver this weekend and we went to Golden Age Collectibles(Eisner Award-winning comic shop) and they had the new Mouse Guard on a little rack on the front counter. Woot!

Not slagging, Gary....just sharing opinions. That's what we do here. As long as the tone is professional and not treated in a derogatory fashion (i.e name-calling or vulgarity), everyone should be able to share their likes and dislikes freely.
Many opinions on here have persuaded me to check out a given book or creator. We all have respect for creators...in fact many of the Boarders ARE creators. However, anytime an artist of ANY genre opens his or her work up for public view, he or she also must be thick-skinned enough to accept critique, as well as praise. These are the nuts and bolts that spur said talent to achieve their greatest works.
Let the commentary flow...
That's MY opinion...
;)
HOWEVER...I did edit my own post for clarity...

Those are all good points. The fact that there are two Mice With Swords comics on the shelves means that most people are going to choose one over the other. Us Hellboarders go way back with Petersen and have had the pleasure of watching him create Mouse Guard and the thrill of watching it do so well. I'm just a little leery of our love for Mouse Guard translating into a hate for The Mice Templar and here on Petersen's art thread I think it is more appropriate to talk about his comic than it is to criticize someone else's.
So on that note, now that we've seen issue two of Winter 1552 I'm really getting into the story. The splitting up of the party was handled well and the characters are each getting their chance to develop. Saxon is such a brat and I hope he doesn't get them in too much trouble. Petersen's drawings of the natural world are beautiful but what really blew me away in this one were the drawings of the weasel ruins. Weasel ruins, yay! I'm on the edge of my seat to see more bats in the next issue.

I got the first Mouse Guard series. I'm not normally one for Fantasy stuff, but i thought it was fantastic. I also saw the name and thought "Blimey! I know that guy (Vaguely) from the HB boards! Purchase!" and told my friends t'do the same.
Glad I did, Blood good comic, t'was an all.

Mmmmmm, chowder-fed babies on a nice bed of wild rice with a port-cranberry reduction.:p
The art just keeps getting more lovely. I like how Petersen's finding so much colour in snow.
I like how the party has been split up but I was a bit confused about where the tablet was that indicated that they were in Darkheather. It wasn't until I set the book down with it open and saw the full cover spread that I realized that it was in the wall of the hole they had just fallen through. I'm amused by the Moria mines allusions though. :)

I had a very similar reaction to BKole: "I've seen this guy's website! I'll buy his book!" Then, when Chowder-Baby Oeming's book came out, I was very hesitant to buy it. Shortly after, I had the chance to meet Mr. Oeming and asked him about the similarities. I had a great time listening to him and he smoothed over any worries I had about him biting Mr. Petersen's story.
Afterwards I went out and bought Mice Templar and got a kick out of it. It seemed pretty different from Mouse Guard. (It made me think of the introduction to Kurt Busiek's A Wizard's Tale wherein he describes the difference between sword-and-sorcery and high fantasy.)
I handed Mouse Guard and Mice Templar to my little sister (almost 20) and she said, "This seems like Redwall: The Comic."
Aaaanyway, I will simply reiterate a simple statement: "You cannot go wrong with mice with little tiny weapons." -Katie Mignola

'ere now, what's all this then?
"Mouse Guard Adventures is a new board game based on David Petersen's award winning comic, Mouse Guard. In the game, you travel the countryside as one of four mice donning capes and swords as part of the Mouse Guard. By facing challenges and telling the tales of your deeds, you seek to prevent the Mouse Territories from falling into ruin."
It must have 3-D sculpted playing pieces. It must.
