Jon just posted this and I had to share it. This is a splash from the new Cable Deadpool book he is working on. And it looks like Marvel may be letting him give cable an awesome look again. I think this may be one of the most beautiful pictures I have seen in years.

Except for those damn shoulder pads, that's awesome. I still wish Zircher would come back, but awesome.

I remember this guy posting over in the Never Ending Forum (GO VOTE IN CBRUNWAY OMG) with his artwork, I'm glad to see he got a job with Marvel. He's not bad, IMO. But I don't read C&D so I understand the hate.

and i wouldn't say it's awful. it's certainly better than what i could draw right now and probably better than anything else most others could produce as well.

God i hope so. Good drawing but Cable's costume is sucktastic.
EDIT: Pretty sure that HAS to be a flashback. Unless Marvel are interfering, I can't see Fabian undoing all the great work he's done to Cable these past few years on the title.

Nice art. I might actually have to pick up C/D now.
Like everyone else said, I don't particularly care for the shoulder pads, but for some reason I always liked that spiked wrist gauntlet thingie on his right arm. So sue me.;)

See, to me that's the beauty of it. That way the book doesn't feel so silly. I like some of the humor, but it's hard to take this book seriously sometimes. This artist is just what the doctor ordered IMO. His faces actually look a lot like John Romita, Jr., which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. That man drew a great Cable!

Well, different strokes for different folks, I guess. No harm in that. IMO the more serious tone of the art will provide a nice juxtaposition against some of the silliness.
By the way, does this Jon Malin guy have a website? And are we absolutely sure that this pic is from Cable/Deadpool or that he's even taking over the book?

See, that just proves my point, though. 'The Burnt Offering' was, hands down, the best arc of the entire series. Coincidentally, it was also the most serious (i.e., least silly) arc of the entire series.
See what I mean?
I'm not saying the book can't be funny, but a little less jokey and a little more plot wouldn't hurt IMO.

I think the reason it's been jokey as of late is b/c it's been a little more Deadpool centric. That's just Deadpool's character. If you go back and look at the stuff when he took over Rumekistan or whatever it was called, there were some serious stuff there and the CW arc towards the end when Cable and Deadpool went off their seperate ways wasn't that jokey. The book is tops when you have a balance of Cable and Deadpool.

Sorry, Brian, but I really don't like that one. The cables all over it just makes it look like something out of Final Fantasy or one of these manga-esque video games.
I much prefer the look he's sporting in X-men right now. Honestly, though, the best look he ever had IMO was the one from X-Tinction Agenda as drawn by Jim Lee.
Blue vest, grey pants. Plus he had the spikey wrist gauntlet.:)

I liked the one he was wearing in CnD when Zircher was drawing it, lately it hasn't done it for me w/ Mr. Brown. So yea, unless Zircher comes back, go w/ the X-Men look.

Hello everyone, thank you for the kind words and all comments.
This is indeed a flashback, it lasts for 3 pages total and then I draw Cable in his modern gear the rest of the book.
I hope everyone can give it a flip through in the very least.
For the record I love the funny stuff in the book. It certainly makes the book unique for Marvel. I'd love to see it in a McFarlane Spider-man sort of way. My half is pretty serious though while the other half will certainly be funny.

Isn't this a prediction seeing how this piece is a flashback of the future?
Nice art Jon, CnD seems to be Marvel's testing grounds for new artist of all types. Well, at least for the Deadpool centric issues & I couldn't love it more.
Someone said it earlier, but CnD is at it's best when there is a good balance. 50lbsof the awesomely-tasticness of Deadpool's Judis to 50lbs of Cable's Jesus-ness makes 100lbs of kickass.;)

Boy...I can't parse this sentence....McFarlane as artist of Spider-Man who redefined several aspects of how the character was drawn (more athletic, more crouchy..the new web style)...or McFarlane as writer of his own Spider-Man which pretty much defined "suck" at the time?

Jon's pictures are pretty and you are either a very good friend or a very good agent (or both ;-), but this entire thread is a bit disengenuous, since Jon is not the "new artist" on CDP, but rather, he is helping out with a tight schedule for part of one issue.
Since I just had lunch with Reilly yesterday to break down final plans for #43-50 and I didn't see Jon there, I can only assume Reilly remains the series semi-regular penciler.
Since Reilly isn't quite yet up to a monthly schedule, we have needed about 3-4 issues a year done by others (Ron Lim has helped us out in that regard recently and done wonderful work!).
Maybe Jon's work will earn him one of those "scheduled fill-in" issues. That would be great for him and since earning that means he's kicking butt, then that would be great for me and the readers, too!
Look forward to seeing Jon's pencils... and Reilly's, too...

Hey Fabian, sorry that would be my fault, I got so amped when I heard Jon was drawing some C and D that I thought he might be the new penciler, So I started posting his stuff all over under the impression at first that he was doing more then a fill in issue. But I gotta tell you, I love what I see so far, I really got excited when I saw his images, I just think it fits Cable Perfectly. I even went and picked up the past couple issues so I could catch up on what I missed sinced I stopped buying the book due to the rotating art lineup.
On another note, I love your writing, I think your one of the last great Comic Book writers, who isnt trying to make everything like a tv show or movie. Thanks for all the great reads over the years.

Brian Moranor- Thanks, hope I get more work for sure! I'll be looking for the next project after this. If I land a regular title somewhere I'll be set.
Kalen O.- Thanks so much, alot of talent over there. I actually got my first published work out of DWP#1. 5 pages of CRAP! But it was my start and I'm happy for it.
cable guy- Thank you very much!
ClanAskani - No return of the pads here. *sigh* hehe Glad you'll be checking it out, it's all I ask!
Deadpooligan - Thanks, but Reilly is still the artist. I love the characters so I'm glad you think I'm a good "fit".
Vegetarian Goat- He's still there.
toneloak- Thanks!
Scavenger- Not in quality but in the tone of the writing. As in McFarlane would have Spidey hanging upside down playing with donuts, playing "this little piggy" with Wendigo, but the art and narrative tone was still striking and so it could switch gears in a second and become very serious subject matter. So apply that to Cable Deadpool but with Deadpool it can still be super silly dialogue for him, third wall breaks and all that fun stuff but the rest of the world would be more grounded. Deadpool isn't so insane to me when everything is so insane around him.
Joe Franklin- Thanks, I see you found my site! Older work for sure but not tooooo shabby.
Fabian- MikeG is a poster from Rob's message boards and I'd be happy to say he's a friend, he's also a promoting machine and does this for Rob's work all the time. I'm very thankful that he took it upon himself to do it for me as well.
I'd love to earn a scheduled fill in. I'm looking for any work as I can get.
Affinity- Yeah, these are from my own little site, I did these for myself as samples. I like the X books! Trying to land some work over there right now in the X-office since Cable Deadpool is booked up I'm told. Though I'd like to get some more CD work since I'm a fan of the characters, smaller cast, Wolvie is coming up on one of the covers and Editor Nicole Boose was fantastic to work with. But I need to take what I can get and I'll take anything at Marvel right now. If CD offered me work today I'd take it. Fingers crossed that Reilly slows down and needs another fill-in! I want to draw some Wolverine action! BLOOD! CLAWS! DROOL! SWeeeeeeeet!
Nyssane- I'm thankful that you and Mike want Malin babies!
Faded- Glad you liked the bunny.:)

blinkinrogue- I wish!
Kalen O.- Thanks! But please only buy 2 if you like the Anaconda pic.
Kalen and Nyssane, this is for you.
I have to say, I love the visual on this character and the snake arms are freaky. She's so different I'd actually love to use her in a story sometime. If I ever do it's because of you bringing her to my attention because I never noticed her before. Great looking character.

OMFG... I seriously almost died. That is the best picture I've ever seen. *LOVES YOU FOREVER* I'd buy ten Cable & Deadpool #42's for that. Soooo awesome, thank you so much! <3 You definitely need to become the regular C&D artist (especially since Ana pops up every now and then). Ah... time to go back to drooling over it.

Before I begin. For the record that Guardians image is about 2 years old and does not reflect my current abilities as an illustrator or colorist. I'm more picky now.
blinkinrogue- Thanks!
Nyssane- Thanks so much. Write the book(email below) and let them know.
Mikl C- Awesome! Thank you very much.
Faded- Thanks!
Affinity- Sweet! Thank you!
caney- Only half, sorry. If you'd like to see me do more please write Marvel at the email below.
steve2275- Only if they gave me a good headstart unless it's a cover and it's too early in my career for that!
If you like my work please write Marvel through the proper channel and tell them how you feel about the CD #42 art I am doing. Nothing will help me get the next job as much as a minute of your time to the proper people.
Mheroes@Marvel.com Mark letters "Okay to print"
Thanks!
