View Full Version : Shows that you just...can't...WATCH!

Sometimes, you just can't bring yourself to watch a certain program--not because it sucks, it may even be a decent show--but because there's something about it that just makes you uncomfortable, or shocks/scares you. This ever happen to you?
For me, the show like this is M*A*S*H. It almost gets me nervous how they sometimes balance the drama with the comedy (yes, I know it's a dramedy), and make you laugh out loud one minute, then hit you with the heavy stuff the next. Maybe it's just me.

Have you ever watched an episode of M*A*S*H? There's rarely anything that heavy.
I watch Desperate Housewives, I watch Ugly Betty, but for some reason I just can't bring myself to watch Grey's Anatomy. Nothing I've heard about the show makes me regret this.

I'm with you on Grey's Anatomy. Every ad I see just puts me off it more.
I've never been able to keep American Idol on for an entire episode, beyond the audition rounds.

Yeah, I've watched M*A*S*H. It really doesn't take that much drama in a movie or tv show to rev me up, so to speak.

I've never really cared for any show that deals heavily with law (Cops or lawyers), doctors, or "reality" tv.
Granted there are some shows that fall under these categories I like, but they are very few and far between.

I'm jumpin on the G'S A bandwagon as well. Can't stand the actors and the stories, and the success it has is sooo unexplainable
The O.C. and That 70's show never got me. I hate these shows
and when Ally Mc Beal was on I really had to turn my head to the opposite direction, never seen something so godawfully fake, hypocrite and BORING (songs everywhere..ugh)

I don't have enough free time to face that kind of dilemma. If I don't LOVE a TV show, I stop watching it immediately.

Pretty much all reality TV and these hour-long teen melodramas (like One Tree Hill and OC)

What’s the show that’s on after RAW? Law & Order SVU I think?
Anything with a laugh track.
Any reality TV. (Except for a couple “Celebreality” shows. Can’t explain why I find ‘em appealing though.)
Anything in the Friends/Seinfield boat. (i.e. modern sitcoms.)

Veronica Mars have been getting good praise but I just cant get into it.

I cant stand even the commercials for Heroes. I have gotten through at most half of an episode before I had to change it. I just cant stand it, all it seems to be is a bunch of model/actors posing and some jack ass in the background saying "ok, and you have this power". I know it is a very popular show and Jeph Loeb is a 'creative consultant' or whatever, but the whole thing just bothers me. It really only seems to lend to hollywood's idea that comics arent a separate medium but instead just another genre.

Most sitcoms these days.
GreY's Anatomy

I have never seen more than a minute or two of any of the following shows:
CSI (any of them)
Law and Order (any of them)
Desperate Housewives
Grey's Anatomy
Friends
Frasier
American Idol
Any Survivor except the Australian one where I did once watch an episode because the girl I was hoping to get some action with wanted to. :p

There is a certain kind of family sitcom that I just can't stand to watch. I don't even know if there is a name for this as a sub-genre, so I will just list some examples:
Everybody Loves Raymond
Home Improvements
King of Queens
that one with Jim Belushi and Courtney whathername from Melrose Place
that one with George Lopez
They all seem to be equally unfunny and dull. The husband is an average joe. His wife is a nagging shrew. Their children are bland and get few lines because they can't act. Marriage is horrible except for the occasional romantic moment. The husbands are losers and their wives are suspiciously pretty or else extremely average. Bleah.

I agree with you for those listed, however for some reason there are some with the same formula that I enjoy watching occasionally. Grounded for Life is good, although it doesn't strictly have the same structure I suppose. Still quite similar, but a bit different.
Hope & Faith, now that is an atrocity.

I'm with you on that. I can't stand the sitcom cliche of the chubby boorish husband married to the attractive wife with the wacky brother/neighbor/whatever. The Honeymooners did it and everyone has copied it since.
I also can't bring myself to watch:
- Grey's Anatomy
- Mad TV
- Any reality/drama show on MTV.
- The OC

I forgot Sex and the city. God, i hated every character...everyone. The redheads takes the prize as the most unpleasant, unfunny, hypocrit, fake, biggest bitch ever. God what a ugly tv show
Friends..hate it as well. I'm starting to hate that kind of U.S. NYC humor thy put in those shows, it's so damn predictable and deliberatedly trendy it irritates the hell outta me. Phoebe dressing weird because we are in NYC man, there's always someone dressing weird. Ross singing on the street, because theres always someone singing on the street in NYC. Monica's dad is kind of retarded, because there's always a kind of retarded dad in NYC. Save me.

I feel embarrassed for people who actually think he's funny. It's the only show I outright despise on television.
Other mentions:
Blue Collar anything
Everybody Loves Raymond
King of Queens
The Simpsons
Home Improvements
Any other sitcom with the dumb husband/attractive wife cliche
How I Met Your Mother (I know it's received positive reviews, but it tries too hard to be funny and witty)

This show is teeeeeeeerrible. I tried to watch it once and was embarrassed for everyone involved by how unfunny it was. After hearing lots of positive word of mouth, I watched it again thinking I must've watched the wrong show only to confirm it's terribleness.
The War at Home is at least as bad or worse.

It's like the Comedy Central execs, scrambling to replace Chappelle, picked the closest non-white comedian and gave him a show. Tada!
Admittedly, I enjoyed Mencia's stand up act when it aired on Comedy Central a few years ago. But he simply doesn't have the talent to carry an entire series, especially one that relies on Chappelle-esque gags. The bar has been set too high...
It's either another "beaner" joke or a "seriously, anyone who does [insert activity here] is a moron!" [retard noise] speel.
And I've also read that Mencia frequently steals other comedians' jokes.

Reno 911. YEah, I get the jokes, they just aren't funny.
Heroes. Because it's trite garbage. I don't care what you say.
Battlestar Galactica.

Star Trek Voyager: After the total awesomeness DS9 was, with great humor, great characters, great stories and a great plot going on for seven years I went to watch this show thinking it would have kept the same quality of its precedessor. Ugh, not really.
Boring as heck stories, incredibly lame and no charisma characters, silly enemies and a butt-ugly ship. What a freaking ugly show Voyager was

Heroes. Dull, plodding, awful scriptwork, and I didn't even like it when it was called New Universe.
Black Atom

I don't think HEROES is bad (certainly not unwatchably bad) but it seems particularly trite if you've followed comics that have explored the same subject. It's hard for me to think of it on the same level of something like Dharma and Greg, which just infuriates me whenever it's on.
Agent Helix
05-16-2007, 01:54 PM
It's certainly not the worst show ever, but I honestly can't make it through a single episode. Puts me right to sleep, and I want to wring the screenwriters' necks for what I can only deem to be aggravated assaults on dialogue and plotting.

For some reason, I just can't take Deadwood. Everyone I know I loves it, thinks I would love it, but I just can't make it through it.
Totally agreed on Mencia: one of the worst shows on TV. Chappelle would delve into into racist material to put it under a bright light and show how ridiculous it is; Mencia relishes in it. Plus, Chappelle is actually funny, and Mencia is just obnoxious.
I used to loathe Scrubs, but the reruns on Comedy Central have swayed my opinion somewhat. I still want JD and the blonde to die a horrible death every episode, but I've come to like the triumverate of John C. McGinley, Kelso, and the Janitor.

To a MUCH lesser extent, Everyone Loves Raymond.

Scrubs is the only show in which I hate most of the main characters. JD is irritating and has steadily become a caricature of himself; I find myself constantly rooting against Carla because I loathe her; Turk is one-dimensional; and Elliot is friggn' annoying.
But like you, I love the supporting characters. I've yet to see a scene with the Janitor, The Todd, Kelso, Cox, orTed that isn't wildly entertaining or hysterical. The third-tier characters -- Col. Doctor, Mickhead, the dermatologist who's always trying to prove his worth, the Janitor's midget sidekick -- are also great.

AAAAAAAAAARGH, this is such the pinnacle. The highest hill. The supreme pile of crap. Hate EVERYTHING about the show, from the main concept of being a sheperd with 3428568475648756437856847 sons to the quotes like "With the help of God.."
man, its horrible. I'd steal a double-barrel shotgun, crush at their home during the Thanksgiving and blast their faces off of their heads, eat their turkey and BURP on their shiny bodies

Remember in Abyss, when those aliens showed Ed Harris how terrible and deserving of extinction the human race was by showing him clips of Nazi Death Camps and Atomic bombs going off? If they had shown them clips of "Real World" or "My Super Sweet 16" he would've readily agreed with them immediately. Unwatchable.
Was put off Grey's Anatomy the first time I read the words "Dr. McDreamy".
Can't get into Friday Night Lights, because the whole concept of people who build their entire social structure around high school football sickens me.
Krya's accent in The Closer rubs me the wrong way.

M.A.S.H
Friends
Seinfeld (though the series finale I thought was actually the best episode for acknowledging how despicable all the characters actually are)
Medical dramas in general, though I've actually sat through House episodes and enjoyed them because Hugh Laurie managed to squeeze blood from a turnip. If anyone else had played the role (i.e. Clooney, whoever) I wouldn't have given the show a snowball's chance in hell of ever watching one episode.
