Happy mother's day, everybody! To celebrate this joyous day, I think we should each mention one of Marvel's mothers and praise the character not only for their heroic status, but also for being a caring mother, I'll start!
Here's to you...

MAY PARKER
"What? May Parker's not a mother! She's Spider-Man's AUNT, stupid!"
Hey, who are you calling stupid? And Aunt May IS Peter Parker's mom, no matter what anyone else says. This woman lovingly raised a sickly, insecure child in a loving home, forging him into a good man with a strong sense of justice. She has been with him through his best and worst, always remaining strong and supportive of her nephew, and even more so when she learned of her nephew's secret life as Spider-Man. Nobody brings out the best of Peter Parker like his Aunt May, and we have to thank her because, more than that spider bite, it was her love that made Peter Parker the hero he is today. Cheers!!

And of course, there was Peter Parkers actual mother...Mary Parker.

OK, she wasn't around while he was growing up, due to the fact that she and Peter's farther got themselves killed in a plan crash while acting as S.H.E.I.L.D. spies. And the only time that adult Peter ever met them was when they reappeared, claiming that they had been prisoners of the Red Skull for all this time. But the fact remains that she was his real mother.
Of course, pretty soon after their re-appearance it turned out that they were actually Android replicas of Peter's parents created by The Chameleon....but we've all had that happen to us, right?
Anyway...even though she had little or no involvment in bringing up Peter and molding him into the hero he is...I still think she deserves a mention.
Happy Mother's Day Mrs. Mary Parker!

SUSAN RICHARDS
The Invisible Woman's come a long way since the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby days. From frequent damsel in distress to a strong, assertive leader, Sue Richards is one tough lady. But under all that strength, she is also a nurturing, caring human being. She is not only the mother of two beautiful children, she can also be seen as a surrogate mother to the Fantastic Four as a whole. In times of stress and despair, Sue has held the team as a family, reminding them that together they can face any threat and succeed. Cheers!!

Heres to: Ms.Marvel

Who gave birth to her son..who was actually her lover???
Ms. Marvel joins the Avengers shortly before her solo series folded, but several months later is sidelined due to a surprise pregnancy. As shown in Avengers #200, her pregnancy progresses at an abnormal speed, and she gives birth to a son within weeks. Her son, Marcus, quickly grows to adulthood and reveals that he is from Limbo, a dimension outside of time and that he has fallen in love with Danvers. The story reveals that Marcus kidnapped Danvers during a previous mission and used mind-control devices to force her to fall in love with him. He seduced and impregnated her, transferred his essence into her womb, becoming his own son. After he makes this revelation to Danvers and the Avengers, she agrees to be his partner, and leaves the team to be with him.

Heres to Mystique:

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k54/rukuscully/3-1.jpg
Mother to Rogue/Nightcrawler/Graydon Creed!
GRAYDON!
Raven would meet Victor Creed, the man known as Sabretooth. The result of this short-lived affair was reportedly the birth of Graydon Creed, her earliest known child. A number of stories have reported that soon after his birth, Raven gave him up for adoption. Others depict Mystique making arrangements for him from a distance. Graydon reportedly spent most of his childhood in a boarding school. Raven kept track of his activities until he reached adolescence. Graydon was the son of two mutants and as a result likely to be a mutant himself. However, he eventually proved to be a Homo sapien instead of a Homo Superior or mutant. Raven was disappointed and soon abandoned him. Graydon would grow to hate his parents and eventually extend his hatred towards all mutants. He later became leader to the mutant-hating organization Friends of Humanity and then a politician. Graydon, at the height of his political ascension was assassinated by an unknown shooter (X-Factor #130). The shooter was later revealed to be a time traveling version of Mystique.
KURT (NIGHTCRAWLER)
Raven was married to Baron Christian Wagner; older sources give his name as Count Eric Wagner, an affluent member of German nobility. He would prove to be a loving husband, but rather disappointing as a lover. His infertility added to their marital problems. Raven started using her shape-shifting powers in order to secretly have sexual encounters with others. She particularly seemed to seek men who somewhat resembled Victor Creed. She was apparently both seeking sexual satisfaction and attempting to conceive another child. She was eventually seduced by another fellow mutant, Azazel.
Raven soon became pregnant. Her husband became suspicious and his own father suggested a blood test to verify if the child was his. Mystique used a dagger to slay him and then buried him. She eventually gave birth to a young boy with black hair, yellow eyes, blue skin and a pointed tail. The locals considered both the mother and the child to be demons, and attempted to slay them. Mystique managed to escape but abandoned her second known son. He was found and raised by Gypsy sorceress Margali Szardos and named Kurt Wagner.
ROGUE
Mystique would later become adoptive mother to the girl Rogue, who had run away from her home in rural Caldecott County, Mississippi. The girl was living alone in a wooded area, brandishing a shotgun and trusting no one when Mystique found her. Destiny foresaw that Rogue would be important to them and Mystique sought her out, gained her trust and took her in. She and Destiny would raise the girl over approximately a decade, and Mystique would grow to be very protective of her.

The Goblyn Queen: Madelyne Pryor
http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k54/rukuscully/4-1.jpg
Madelyne gave birth to a child, named Nathan Christopher Charles Summers. Although Scott tried to live a normal life, he received a call from his former teammate Angel that Jean Grey had been found, alive. He abandoned Madelyne and his son who, shortly thereafter, were attacked by Mr. Sinister's Marauders, and Nathan was taken away. Madelyne was hospitalized, but Sinister had erased all her records.
She pitted X-Factor against the X-Men by reverting to Madelyne and claiming that Scott wanted to take their baby away. She even took Scott's brother Havok as her lover. The teams defeated N'astirh, but Madelyne, becoming suicidal upon the discovery of being a clone, trapped herself and Jean Grey in a telekinetic bubble, then killed herself and tried to telepathically take Jean with her. Jean survived by re-integrating the portions of her essence absorbed by the Phoenix Force and by Madelyne (which she would later expel).
Her son, Nathan Christopher, later turned out to be the time-travelling soldier of fortune Cable

Let's not forget the Scarlet Witch, whose love for her children led to her going insane and ripping the Avengers apart, which subsequently led to her remaking the world in her father's image. Talk about a caring mother...

It's mother's day?

Nah, Mother's day is at a different time in the UK to the US. Although I couldn't tell you when it is Mother's Day here if you had a gun to my head.
This is one of the perils of frequenting message boards/Internet sites that are based in the USA. A couple of years ago I actually bought my Mum some flowers because I'd seen it was mother's day in the States and assumed that Mother's day was the same date everywhere. Doh!
