Poor Chris!
I feel your pain. I live in a duplex. Thankfully, we've only got one ground floor, but we have, literally, NO insulation at all. So, it can get mega-hot in the summer. I did discover a long time ago that closing all the interior doors does seem to help keep the main part of the apartment cooler.
My only suggestion right now is to just start closing doors - no matter what your roommate says. Oh, and get a fan or two or three for your bedroom and spend most of your time in there - with the door closed.
If that fails, I guess you could always just spend more time next door!
Funny, I never thought of ferrets as energy-saving devices!

Well, just to let you know, we closed all the doors last night and have kept them closed since. There hasn't been anyone here all day so no one has been going in and out at all. The ac has been on all day, I just came in from work and it's still over 80 degrees in here. So that didn't actually work, but it was a good theory any way. I'm having Brad call the landlord today to see if there's something wrong with the unit.

hmmm... well your ac is probably messed up. Of course it is probably messed up because the door was left open all the time and your ac was overworked.
As my Dad used to tell us, "cold air costs money." Close the door. Tell him Eric's mean friend Vic said to shut up and shut the damn door like all the other grown adults who don't want to live in an oven. As Americans we have the right to do what we want, however, the science of air currents does not give a damn about your rights to smoke with the door open.
Change the air filter.
Check for a freon leak.
Call a tech to look at it.
If it runs too high for too long (because the door was left open) the unit can freeze up or develop other problems. Get it fixed now because in a few weeks the waiting list for a tech will be weeks long.
Good luck... Arkansas summers bite.

We did change the air filter today, but that didn't help. Even turned it off for a while to make sure it wasn't froze up. I don't know which unit is ours and wouldn't know how to check for a leak anyway. We called the landlord today. He's the one who suggested the filter change. I have to call him in the morning again to let him know the filter change didn't work and get him to call a tech.
Thanks for the advice though.
Oh, and Brad knows you or has at least met you on a few occasions in the past. He's knows the real Vic and wouldn't fall for the "mean friend" threat.

Can't you just get Eric to kick his butt for ya?
Isn't that what big brothers are for?

Roomates are hard at the best of times. But it's cool that he apologized, that shows HUGE character!

Come on now. As much as you two claim to hate each other, I know when no one's looking, you give each other a great big hug and giggle to each other about the act that you've been putting on.

Unless he's a sociopath.
